Arch Gynecol Obstet

August 2024

Center for Maternal-Fetal, Neonatal and Reproductive Medicine, National Center for Child Health and Development, 2-10-1 Okura, Setagaya-Ku, Tokyo, 157-8535, Japan.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to identify risk factors for "combined delivery," which occurs when a woman has an unplanned cesarean section for the second twin after delivering the first twin vaginally.
  • Data was collected from 5,411 women with twin pregnancies at 191 hospitals in Japan from 2007 to 2016, focusing on the time interval between the births of the twins.
  • Results indicated that combined delivery happened in 5.1% of cases, with significant risk factors including a longer delivery interval, high pre-pregnancy BMI (≥25 kg/m²), low birth weight of the second twin (<1500 g), and certain fetal presentations (breech and transverse).

Electronic address:

Objective: To explore the experience of primi- and multiparous women with planned singleton upright breech births.

Method: We conducted face-to-face, in-depth interviews with five primiparous and five multiparous women who underwent a physiological breech birth at one hospital in Norway and analyzed the data using Giorgi's descriptive phenomenological method.

Results: The phenomenon of women's experiences with physiological breech birth yielded four main constituents: "Mental preparedness and control", "The importance of shared decision-making and sufficient information", "Trust and the many 'faces' of birthing staff", and "'I actually did it!': Coping and control in the upright breech position".

Introduction: Vascular injury due to direct contact with malpositioned pedicle screws is perhaps the most devastating complication associated with screw instrumentation. While frank perforation of major vessels warrants urgent open or endovascular repair, the management of pedicle screws in close vicinity of large vessels is unclear. We present a systematic multi-disciplinary approach to manage a patient with a periaortic pedicle screw.

Impact of full vs empty urinary bladder on external cephalic version success: a randomized controlled trial.

Am J Obstet Gynecol MFM

July 2023

Hadassah Medical Organization and Faculty of Medicine, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Jerusalem, Israel (Dr Kabiri, Dr Yahya, Dr Yahalomi, and Dr Ezra).

Background: External cephalic version is a procedure used to turn a fetus from a breech position to a cephalic position before delivery. The success rate of the external cephalic version can be affected by various factors; however, the effect of bladder volume on the success rate of the external cephalic version remains controversial.

Objective: This study aimed to determine the effect of urinary bladder status (full or empty) on the success rate of the external cephalic version through a prospective randomized study.

Objective: Second-stage cesarean delivery (CD) is associated with subsequent preterm birth (PTB). It has been suggested that an increased risk of PTB after second-stage cesarean delivery could be linked to a higher chance of cervical injury due to the extension of the uterine incision. Previous studies have shown that reverse breech extraction is associated with lower rates of uterine incision extensions compared to the "push" method.
