The current study assessed prevalence of alcohol in conjunction with nonmedical opioid and benzodiazepine use across a nationally representative sample of adults in Brazil. Cross-sectional data on prevalence were estimated from the 2015 Brazilian Household Survey on Substance Use.

After a one-year rollout of the pandemic caused by SARS-CoV-2, the continuous dissemination of the virus has generated a number of variants with increased transmissibility and infectivity, called variants of concern (VOC), which now predominate worldwide. Concerns about the susceptibility of humans that have already been infected before or those already vaccinated to infection by VOC rise among scientists and clinicians. Herein, we assessed the prevalence of different VOC among recent infections at the Brazilian National Cancer Institute (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil).

Acral melanoma (AM) is a malignant cutaneous melanocytic tumour specifically located on the palms, soles, and nail apparatus, which are areas of glabrous (hairless) skin. Acral lentiginous melanoma, a subtype of AM, represents a histopathological subtype diagnosis of cutaneous melanoma with unique morphological and structural features. DNA Methylation Markers from Negative Surgical Margins Can Predict Recurrence of Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma.

The identification of molecular markers in negative surgical margins of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) might help in identifying residual molecular aberrations, and potentially improve the prediction of prognosis. We performed an Infinium MethylationEPIC BeadChip array on 32 negative surgical margins stratified based on the status of tumor recurrence in order to identify recurrence-specific aberrant DNA methylation (DNAme) markers. We identified 2512 recurrence-associated Differentially Methylated Positions (DMPs) and 392 Differentially Methylated Regions (DMRs) which were enriched in cell signaling and cancer-related pathways.

Multi-generational SIR modeling: Determination of parameters, epidemiological forecasting and age-dependent vaccination policies.

We use an age-dependent SIR system of equations to model the evolution of the COVID-19. Parameters that measure the amount of interaction in different locations (home, work, school, other) are approximated from in-sample data using a random optimization scheme, and indicate changes in social distancing along the course of the pandemic. That allows the estimation of the time evolution of classical and age-dependent reproduction numbers.

Dysregulation of Transcription Factor Networks Unveils Different Pathways in Human Papillomavirus 16-Positive Squamous Cell Carcinoma and Adenocarcinoma of the Uterine Cervix.

Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) and adenocarcinoma (ADC) are the most common histological types of cervical cancer (CC). The worse prognosis of ADC cases highlights the need for better molecular characterization regarding differences between these CC types. RNA-Seq analysis of seven SCC and three ADC human papillomavirus 16-positive samples and the comparison with public data from non-tumoral human papillomavirus-negative cervical tissue samples revealed pathways exclusive to each histological type, such as the epithelial maintenance in SCC and the maturity-onset diabetes of the young (MODY) pathway in ADC.

Since the late 1970s, OS therapy and prognosis had only modest improvements, making it appealing to explore new tools that could help ameliorate the treatment. We present a meta-analysis of the gene expression signature of primary OS, and propose small molecules that could reverse this signature.

Interferon regulatory factor 2-binding protein 2 (IRF2BP2) encodes a member of the IRF2BP family of transcriptional regulators, which includes IRF2BP1, IRF2BP2, and IRF2BPL (EAP1). IRF2BP2 was initially identified as a transcriptional corepressor that was dependent on Interferon regulatory factor-2 (IRF-2). The aim of this study was to evaluate psychometric properties of the Lymphedema Functioning, Disability and Health Questionnaire for lower limb lymphedema (Lymph-ICF-LL) in Brazilian patients with secondary lower limb lymphedema after cancer treatment. A diagnostic test study was performed in 30 patients with lower limb lymphedema. To assess the reliability, the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) was analyzed through test-retest, Cronbach alpha coefficient, magnitude of intrasubject variability by standard error of measurement (SEM), and smallest real difference (SRD).
