Introduction: Regenerative endodontic procedures (REPs) aim to replace damaged dental structures and regenerate the dentin-pulp complex. Initially focused on teeth with incomplete root formation, recent research shows promise for necrotic teeth with complete root formation.

Methodology: This review, following PRISMA guidelines and registered in PROSPERO, included clinical studies on regenerative endodontic therapy in necrotic human teeth with complete root formation.

Introduction: The present study evaluated the cytotoxicity and bioactivity of commonly-used calcium silicate-based cements in a culture of stem cells from the apical papilla (SCAPs).

Materials And Methods: NeoMTA Plus (Avalon Biomed), Biodentine (Septodont) and MTA HP Repair (Angelus) cements were evaluated using the 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyl-2H-tetrazolium bromide (MTT) and sulphorhodamine-B (SRB) viability assays. Cells were seeded (1*10 cells mL) in 96-well plates and exposed to 1:4 diluted extract in 24 h and 72 h.

December 2020

Brazilian Lutheran University, ULBRA, Dental School, Av. Farroupila, 8001 Bairro São José, Canoas, RS, CEP 92425-020, Brazil.

Article Synopsis
  • Antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (A-PDT) is an adjunctive method to enhance root canal disinfection by targeting intracanal biofilm.
  • A systematic review included 27 studies that were analyzed for the effectiveness of PDT when combined with traditional endodontic procedures.
  • While PDT generally decreased bacterial viability in most studies, the lack of precise quantification and biases in the research limited the robustness of the conclusions.

Background: The medical literature suggests that facet dislocations (FDs) must be managed surgically, even in the absence of spinal cord injury. In fact, there is no standard guideline for managing FD cases and whether magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) should be utilized for optimizing treatment planning.

Methods: Fifteen cases of FD were evaluated twice by nine spine surgeons.

Aim: The aim of this study was to develop an experimental adhesive resin with nanoneedle-like zinc oxide (N-ZnO), an inorganic filler, that could avoid particle agglomeration and lead to a homogeneous stress distribution within the material and characterize it.

Materials And Methods: N-ZnO particles obtained by a thermal evaporation technique were characterized regarding size and surface area and added at 0 (control), 1, 2, 5, and 10 wt%, to an experimental adhesive resin. The following experimental adhesive resins' properties were assessed: radiopacity, contact angle to conditioned enamel and dentin, color, degree of conversion, flexural strength, resistance to degradation, and cytotoxicity.

Unlabelled: Surgical management in epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) has a significant impact in overall survival and progression-free survival. The Brazilian Society of Surgical Oncology (BSSO) supported a taskforce of experts to reach a consensus: experienced and specialised trained surgeons, in cancer centres, provide the best EOC surgery. Laparoscopic and/or radiological staging prognosticates the possibility of complete cytoreduction (CC0) and helps to reduce unnecessary laparotomies.

Article Synopsis
  • A study in southern Brazil involving 345 individuals analyzed the link between cytokine gene polymorphisms and outcomes of hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection, focusing on ethnic differences.
  • Genotyping of specific cytokine genes showed that the -308A allele in the TNF-α gene was associated with a higher risk of chronic HBV infection.
  • Conversely, a lower frequency of TNF-238A allele was observed in patients with chronic active hepatitis B, suggesting it may have a protective effect against liver injury.

Introduction: Adverse effects on the oral mucosa after the use of dermal fillers have been reported due to their increased use for facial aesthetics.

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate, clinically and histologically, the local and systemic effects of two concentrations of polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) dermal filler in rats.

Material And Methods: Fifty-four female rats were allocated into three treatment groups (2% PMMA, 30% PMMA and 0.

Unlabelled: The endonasal surgical approach of the lacrymal sac assisted by video-endoscopy is carried out today with high success rates. Despite the satisfactory results reached with the traditional external approach, it has the disadvantage of requiring a skin incision and a consequent local scar. With the development and enhancement of the endonasal techniques, the endoscopic approach is increasingly preferred by surgeons.

Background: Sjögren's syndrome (SjS) is a systemic autoimmune disease that might lead to hyposalivation and negatively affect the oral environment. The evidence with regard to the periodontal conditions in this group of subjects is still controversial. This study aimed to evaluate the periodontal clinical conditions and inflammatory markers in gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) from patients with primary Sjögren's syndrome (SjS [P]) or secondary Sjögren's syndrome (SjS [S]) compared to a control group.

This case report refers to an 11-year-old boy with avulsion of the upper left central and lateral incisors. The teeth were replanted after 4 h, splinted with a semi-rigid splint for 12 days, and then endodontically treated. Severe progressive root resorption was seen after 2 years and the teeth were extracted.

Background: The primary aim of this study was to compare the inflammatory activity in the gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) in a group of patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and a group of matched controls. Secondarily, we aimed to evaluate the effect of rheumatologic treatment on periodontal inflammation.

Methods: Seventeen individuals with RA with a mean duration of disease of 12.

Background: The present study aimed to verify the effect of a single application of 3% potassium oxalate gel compared to a placebo gel immediately after subgingival scaling and root planing (SRP) on dentinal hypersensitivity (DH).

Methods: Fifteen patients undergoing periodontal treatment volunteered for this randomized controlled clinical trial. They presented with periodontitis on homologous contralateral canines and premolars, with complaints of dentinal hypersensitivity before periodontal therapy.
