Edible films were produced by combining a pectin (PEC) matrix with chitosan nanopar-ticle (CSNP), polysorbate 80 (T80), and garlic essential oil (GEO) as an antimicrobial agent. Since the removal of thiazolidinediones (TZDs) from the market, researchers have been exploring alternative anti-diabetic drugs that target PPARγ without causing adverse effects while promoting insulin sensitization by blocking serine 273 phosphorylation (Ser273 or S273). Nonetheless, the underlying mechanisms of the relationship between insulin resistance and S273 phosphorylation are still largely unknown, except for the involvement of growth differentiation factor (GDF3) regulation in the process. The mesoporous SBA-15 material was surface-functionalized with amino and carboxylic acid groups and used as a platform to investigate the interaction of these chemical groups with tetracycline, kanamycin, and ampicillin antibiotics. The interactions between the antibiotic and the functionalized surfaces were characterized using two-dimensional H-C HETCOR CP MAS and FTIR spectroscopy and indicated that -COO NH bondings had been formed between chemical groups on the silica surface and drug molecules. The surface modification resulted in higher kanamycin and ampicillin loadings and a slow-release rate, and all synthesized systems showed antibacterial activity against susceptible bacteria.

Accuracy and transparency of scientific data are becoming more and more relevant with the increasing concern regarding the evaluation of data reproducibility in many research areas. This concern is also true for quantifying coding and noncoding RNAs, with the remarkable increase in publications reporting RNA profiling and sequencing studies. To address the problem, we propose the following recommendations: (a) accurate documentation of experimental procedures in Materials and methods (and not only in the supplementary information, as many journals have a strict mandate for making Materials and methods as visible as possible in the main text); (b) submission of RT-qPCR raw data for all experiments reported; and (c) adoption of a unified, simple format for submitted RT-qPCR raw data.

Herein, we describe the synthesis, crystal structure, and electronic properties of {[K(dmso)(HO)][Ni(Hmpba)]·dmso·2HO} () and [Ni(HO)][Ni(Hmpba)]·3CHOH·4HO () [dmso = dimethyl sulfoxide; CHOH = methanol; and Hmpba = 1,3-phenylenebis(oxamic acid)] bearing the [Ni(Hmpba)] helicate, hereafter referred to as {Ni}. SHAPE software calculations indicate that the coordination geometry of all the Ni atoms in 1 and 2 is a distorted octahedron (O) whereas the coordination environments for K1 and K2 atoms in 1 are Snub disphenoid J84 (D) and distorted octahedron (O), respectively. The {Ni} helicate in is connected by K counter cations yielding a 2D coordination network with topology.

Mayaro virus (MAYV) is an emerging arthropod-borne virus endemic in Latin America and the causative agent of arthritogenic febrile disease. Mayaro fever is poorly understood; thus, we established an in vivo model of infection in susceptible type-I interferon receptor-deficient mice (IFNAR-/-) to characterize the disease. MAYV inoculations in the hind paws of IFNAR-/- mice result in visible paw inflammation, evolve into a disseminated infection and involve the activation of immune responses and inflammation.
