Background And Hypothesis: Daprodustat, an oral hypoxia-inducible factor prolyl hydroxylase inhibitor, is approved for treatment of anemia in dialysis patients with CKD in some parts of the world. This subgroup analysis examined the efficacy and safety of daprodustat versus darbepoetin alfa in patients with anemia of CKD undergoing peritoneal dialysis (PD).
Methods: ASCEND-D (NCT02879305) was an open-label, Phase 3 trial; patients with CKD were randomized to daprodustat daily and epoetin alfa (HD patients) or darbepoetin alfa (PD patients).

Fingermarks are important forensic evidence for identifying people. In this work, luminescent MOF [Eu(BDC)(HO)] (herein referred as EuBDC) was tested as a potential latent fingermark (LF) luminescent developer powder and its acute toxicity evaluated following OECD protocol 423. The results showed that the powder can develop groomed LF on materials such as leather, plastic, metal, glass, cardboard, and aluminum.

Background And Objective: Sarcopenia, characterized by the progressive loss of skeletal muscle mass (MM) and muscle function, is a common and debilitating condition in cancer patients, significantly impacting their quality of life, treatment outcomes, and overall survival. The pathophysiology of sarcopenia is multifactorial, involving metabolic, hormonal, and inflammatory changes. Recent research highlights the role of chronic inflammation in the development and progression of sarcopenia, with pro-inflammatory cytokines being key mediators of muscle catabolism.

Objective: To assess the prevalence of changes on computed tomography (CT) in Graves' orbitopathy (GO) and to correlate those changes with disease activity, as well as with clinical and biochemical variables.
Materials And Methods: This was a retrospective study, conducted at a tertiary hospital, of clinical, biochemical, and imaging data from consecutive patients with GO who underwent at least one orbital CT scan between July 2012 and December 2020. A single observer quantified the thickness of the extraocular muscles and the degree of proptosis.

Introduction: Schistosomiasis has for many years relied on a single drug, praziquantel (PZQ) for treatment of the disease. Immense efforts have been invested in the discovery of protein kinase (PK) inhibitors; however, given that the majority of PKs are still not targeted by an inhibitor with a useful level of selectivity, there is a compelling need to expand the chemical space available for synthesizing new, potent, and selective PK inhibitors. Small-molecule inhibitors targeting the ATP pocket of the catalytic domain of PKs have the potential to become drugs devoid of (major) side effects, particularly if they bind selectively.

Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) has increasingly been used to modify cortical maladaptive plastic changes shown to occur in fibromyalgia (FM) and to correlate with symptoms. Evidence for its efficacy is currently inconclusive, mainly due to heterogeneity of stimulation parameters used in trials available to date. Here, we reviewed the current evidence on the use of rTMS for FM control in the format of a narrative review, in which a systematic dissection of the different stimulation parameters would be possible.

Background: Evaluating the effectiveness of Chagas disease treatment poses challenges due to the lack of biomarkers for disease progression and therapeutic response. In this study, we aimed to assess the clearance of Trypanosoma cruzi ( parasites in a group of benznidazole (BNZ)-treated chronic Chagas disease patients using high-sensitivity quantitative PCR (qPCR) and track antibody levels through a semiquantitative chemiluminescent assay.
Methods: A total of 102 seropositive patients with previous PCR-positive results were enrolled in the study.

infection is diagnosed by parasitological, molecular, and serological tests. Molecular methods based on DNA amplification provide a more sensitive alternative to classical parasitological techniques for detecting evidence of parasitemia, and are the preferred tests for congenital and oral transmission cases and parasite reactivation in chronically infected immunosuppressed individuals. In newborns at risk of vertical transmission, simplified diagnostic algorithms that provide timely results can reduce the high follow-up losses observed with current algorithms.

Leishmaniasis is a chronic inflammatory zoonotic illness caused by protozoan flagellates belonging to the genus. Current data suggest that over 1 billion people worldwide are susceptible to infection, primarily in tropical and subtropical countries, where up to 2 million new cases are reported annually. Therefore, the development of a vaccine is crucial to combating this disease.

Introduction: The need for new tools to treat infections is constantly growing due to the possibilities of emerging diseases related to environmental changes, climatic catastrophes, microorganism resistance, and human and animal aging, leading to an evident unbalance in the planet's health. Brazil contains the most significant portion of world biodiversity, a potential source of new antimicrobial natural products. Nonetheless, its environment, particularly its forests, and rainforests, is under threat, meaning that rapidly conducted, comprehensive research into the potential of antimicrobial activity to address this threat is urgently needed.

Introduction: The intensification of tilapia production has increased animal density in tanks, leading to more frequent exposure to pathogenic agents and compromising the quality of fish products. Antimicrobial resistance is a global concern that affects human treatment, and sentinel microorganisms like are crucial for monitoring production chains, especially in aquaculture, where research is still limited. The aim of this study was to identify the presence of and investigate its antimicrobial resistance profiles throughout the entire tilapia production chain.

Introduction: Diabetes mellitus (DM) has become a public health problem, which is associated with high morbidity and mortality, due to the chronic complications, such as diabetic neuropathy. Current recommendations for the treatment of neuropathic pain achieve a reduction of 30% in only 30% of cases. Therefore, it is necessary to identify new therapeutic approaches to improve the quality of life of diabetic patients.
