Women and traditional knowledge in health care: understanding traditional healing practices in Brazil.

Several international agreements acknowledge public participation, equity, and democracy as necessary conditions to achieve Health Promotion. For this purpose, if we accept the validity of distinct systems of knowledge, we realize the relevance of an approach to healthcare based on a pluralist epistemology, which sustains the legitimacy of traditional knowledge in its own processes of production, transmission, and application. In this study, we aim to investigate the notions and understandings of traditional healing practices in a city near Curitiba, in Southern Brazil.

Characterization of pharmaceutical services in the prison system: cross-sectional study.

This study aimed to characterize pharmaceutical services (PS) in the prison system of Rio Grande do Sul in terms of organization and infrastructure in the context of primary health care. This is a descriptive study, with a cross-sectional design carried out between August and September 2022. Data collection was carried out remotely, using a questionnaire prepared and adapted based on the Pesquisa Nacional sobre Acesso, Utilização e Promoção do Uso Racional de Medicamentos no Brasil (PNAUM - Brazilian National Survey on Access, Use and Promotion of Rational Use of Medications in Brazil).

Social health determinants associated with mammography performance according to the 2013 and 2019 National Health Survey.

Mammography is one of the main methods available for breast cancer screening in Brazil. However, differences in timely access and performance of the exam can be highlighted based on social determinants of health, considered relevant due to their influence on the health situation of a population. Thus, the present study aimed to identify the social determinants of health associated with access to and performance of mammography in Brazilian women.

[Advances and challenges in the transsexualizing process in the Brazilian Unified Health System].

The implementation of the Transsexualizing Process (TP) / Gender-affirming Surgeries (GAS) in the Unified Health System (SUS) was the result of social struggles by the LGBT community for sexual rights, the construction of gender identity, and bodily autonomy. The scope of this article is to analyze the advances and challenges of TP/GAS in the SUS, through a qualitative narrative literature review. In June 2022, searches were conducted in the Google Scholar, SciELO, and VHL databases to select scientific articles in Portuguese published in the last 10 years, excluding articles in foreign languages and other types of academic work such as reviews, undergraduate theses, dissertations, and/or graduate theses.

Impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the incidence of occupational accidents among beneficiaries of the Unified Health System in Brazil: an interrupted time series study.

The scope of this study was to analyze the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the incidence of occupational accidents among beneficiaries of the Unified Health System in Brazil. It was an interrupted time series study, using data on occupational accidents registered by the Unified Health System from 2015 to 2020. The analysis used the Prais-Winsten generalized linear regression model.

[Offer and participation in body practices and physical activities in primary health care in Brazil: analysis from 2014 to 2022].

The scope of this article is to analyze the temporal trend and macro-regional distribution of the options on offer in terms of collective activities of bodily practices and physical activities (BPPA) and the number of participants in primary health care, developed by all health professionals and by Physical Education Professionals in Brazil. It involved an ecological time-series study, using data from the Health Information System for Primary Health Care (Sisab) between 2014 and 2022, which was assessed using regression analysis and Joinpoint software. At the national level, the results revealed an increase in the number of collective BPPA activities and participants in primary health care developed by all health professionals and by Physical Education Professionals between 2014 and 2019, followed by a reduction in both in 2020.

Model of care in freestanding birth centers in Brazil: a scoping review.

Freestanding birth centers (FBCs) in Brazil are regulated to provide care for women with a straightforward pregnancy. The systematization of the literature on FBCs can broaden our knowledge of these facilities. We conducted a scoping review to answer the following research question: "What are the characteristics of the model of care in freestanding birth centers in Brazil?".

Epidemiological profile of mortality in indigenous children under five years of age in Brazil: an integrative literature review.

The aim is to identify the epidemiological profile of mortality among Brazilian indigenous children under five years of age, through an integrative review. Articles that evaluated the mortality of indigenous Brazilian children under one and/or five years of age, from 2000 to 2020, in Portuguese, English, and/or Spanish, in the LILACS, SciELO, and MEDLINE databases were included. Of the 3,229 publications found, 22 were included in the review.

[Association between occupational exposure to pesticides and ototoxicity in farmers of Pontal do Paranapanema-SP, Brazil].

The scope of this study was to assess the ototoxic effects and general health of farmers exposed to pesticides in the Pontal do Paranapanema region, SP, Brazil. Participants of both sexes aged 18-40, 40-60 and >60 years were allocated into two groups: Non-Exposed Group (NEG) and Occupationally Exposed Group (OEG). A questionnaire of exposure and health, meatoscopy, pure tone audiometry, logoaudiometry and immittanciometry were assessed.

[Quality evaluation of Brazilian Mortality Information System (SIM): a scoping review].

The aim was to map evidence on the quality of records in the Mortality Information System (SIM) through a national scoping review of articles published up to April 2023 across five databases (PubMed, Embase, Scopus, LILACS, and SciELO). Studies focused on specific causes of death were excluded. Dimensions evaluated included accessibility, methodological clarity, coverage, completeness, reliability, consistency, non-duplication, timeliness, validity, and studies on ill-defined causes/garbage codes.

The politicisation of vaccines and its influence on Brazilian caregivers' opinions on childhood routine vaccination.

Progressive declines in vaccination coverage have been recorded in Brazil in recent years. The COVID-19 pandemic has introduced even more challenges to this scenario. Considering the pandemic as an event, the scope of this article was to analyze the politicization of vaccines from the perspective of caregivers of young children.

Between the streets and the RAPS: Integrative review on the access of the homeless population to Mental Health Services.

This integrative review systematized the factors that influence access to mental health services for the Homeless Population (HP) in harmful use of alcohol and other drugs in the Psychosocial Care Network (RAPS) in Brazil by categorizing the factors into access "barriers" and "facilitators". We selected 13 corresponding articles and subsequently assessed their methodological quality. We identified 19 access barriers and 22 access facilitators, observing a convergence and complementarity of the factors identified, with no disagreements between authors.

Social and environmental determination of health in sugarcane producing territories in Pernambuco.

The study analyzed the socio-environmental determination of health in five sugarcane-producing municipalities in Pernambuco. This participatory, qualitative research was conducted from January to August 2022. Workshops were held in the participating communities to build the Participatory Rural Diagnosis of protective and destructive processes of global, community, and individual socio-environmental health dimensions.

[Impact of Municipal Policies and Plans on Indicators of Access to Basic Sanitation].

This study aimed to understand the impact of municipal basic sanitation policies and plans on the rate of access to drinking water and sewage services. For this, data were collected from the 853 municipalities of Minas Gerais regarding the provision of sanitation, as well as socioeconomic, quality of life and demographic indicators, treated with the t-test techniques for differences between means and Propensity Score Matching. The results revealed the need for greater sanitation planning in the state since a significant portion of municipalities do not have formal planning instruments for the sector.

[How did men report their long COVID experience? Health-Disease socio-anthropological meaning].

The study aims to explain the discourse of the collective subject of adult and elderly men about the experience of long COVID. Qualitative research, derived from a national multicenter clinical-virtual observatory involving 92 adult men, between 2022 and 2023 in Brazil. IRaMuTeQ software was used (data processing), the Collective Subject Discourse technique (analysis) and socio-anthropological references of the disease experience (interpretation).

Construction and validation of an instruction manual of nutritional care for severely obese people in the Unified Health System.

This article describes the construction and validation of an instruction manual geared toward nutritional care (NC) for people with severe obesity in the Brazilian Unified Health System (SUS). In the production of this instruction manual, a broad literature review was conducted for the identification and discussion of topics to be treated. The content and appearance validity were conducted according to the Delphi technique and to focus groups, respectively, with evaluators who were nutritionists and practitioners, from different regions of Brazil.

Lactating women and the perception of useful value for breastfeeding in a prison environment.

The aim is to unveil the useful value of breastfeeding for lactating women in a prison environment, based on Max Scheler's axiological perspective. This work was a qualitative, developed in a prison unit in Rio de Janeiro, where seven lactating women were interviewed. The phenomenological interview was used for data collection, while Laurence Bardin's content analysis was used for data analysis and treatment.

Nuclear Medicine in Brazilian Health System.

Nuclear Medicine plays an important role in the management of patients with chronic diseases, especially oncological and cardiovascular conditions. In this study, an analysis of the evolution of this field in Brazil was conducted within the framework of the Unified Health System. Retrospective analyses from 2015 to 2021 of public data were performed.

Gender and remote work: associations between mental health and hours of remote work and housework.

To investigate the association between hours of remote work (RWHs) and housework (HWHs), independently, as well as the combined total of work hours (WHs), with gender and mental health of remote workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. Cross-sectional study with data from the ELSA-Brasil (N = 2,318). On average, women reported more time spent on HWHs and WHs than men, while no difference was found in RWHs.

Health in the Legal Amazon: an analysis of morbidity and mortality indicators between 2010 e 2021.

We carried out the health situation analysis in the Legal Amazon through morbidity and mortality indicators and the comparison between intra and inter-state federation of the region and Brazil. Analysis of the health situation, trends, and identification of clusters in the Brazilian Amazon, for the period from 2010 to 2021, using secondary data available in official health information systems. Circulatory diseases were the main cause of death, representing 23% of deaths.

[Performance of the "a body shape index" as a discriminator of obesity and sarcopenic obesity - ELSA-Brasil].

The scope of this study was to determine the diagnostic performance of ABSI for obesity and sarcopenic obesity, compared to the results of bioimpedance analysis (BIA) and BMI, by sex and age group. It involved a cross-sectional study with 12,793 participants in the second round of ELSA-Brasil (Longitudinal Study of Adult Health in Brazil), which obtained measurements of body fat percentage using BIA and anthropometry, verifying the performance of the diagnostic tests in order to compare the indices. The results showed that for obesity in men in all three age groups, the sensitivity was below 49%.

Transforming practices into models: paths towards a Health Care Network for the Homeless Population.

The Homeless Population (HP) has grown exponentially in the last decade, causing different challenges for the Brazilian Unified Health System, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. A cross-sectional, descriptive, and exploratory study, with triangulated quantitative and qualitative methods, was conducted from 2020 to 2022, exploring care practices geared to the HP in Belo Horizonte. The quantitative stage adopted official datasets from the health and social assistance secretariats, and 48 semi-structured interviews and four focus groups were conducted in the qualitative stage, totaling 86 participants.

[Inequalities in the adequacy to consultation calendar for children under 5 years old in the Food and Nutritional Surveillance].

The Ministry of Health recommends a minimum appointment schedule in childcare to monitor growth and development. The objective was to analyze the adequacy of the minimum appointment schedule for children under 5 years of age, with at least one anthropometric follow-up registered with the Food and Nutrition Surveillance System (SISVAN) between 2008 and 2020. The sample size comprised 23,453,620 children under the age of 5, and 103,773,311 records.

Material deprivation, racial inequalities and mortality from female breast, prostate, and cervical neoplasm in the Brazilian adult population: an ecological study.

This article aims to identify the relationship between material deprivation and mortality from breast, cervical, and prostate neoplasms in the Brazilian adult population and the relationship between ethnicity/skin color and material deprivation. This cross-sectional ecological study calculated the mean mortality rate per 100,000 inhabitants, and deaths were standardized by age and gender and redistributed per to ill-defined causes, stratified by age group and ethnicity/skin color. We applied the Negative Binomial model, containing the interaction between ethnicity/skin color and the Brazilian Deprivation Index (IBP).

[Gastric cancer cases in Brazil and waiting times for diagnosis and treatment].

The aim is to describe the sociodemographic and clinical-epidemiological profile of hospital cases of gastric cancer and to analyze factors associated with the Time-to-Treatment in Brazil. Exploratory study of sociodemographic and clinical-epidemiological characteristics of cases of gastric cancer. Time-to-Treatment were continuously estimated and then categorized into ≤ 60/> 60 days to estimate prevalence.
