Feline meningiomas typically arise on the surface of the brain but can occur in the third ventricle. Meningiomas in the fourth ventricle have not been reported in cats, to our knowledge. Here, we describe the clinical and pathologic findings of meningioma in the fourth ventricle in 2 cats.

Mandibular ossifying fibroma in 2 cattle in Brazil.

Ossifying fibroma (OF) is a slow-growing, expansive, and benign fibro-osseous neoplasm that is rare in cattle. It mainly affects the craniofacial bones, especially the mandible. Here, we report 2 cases of mandibular OF in Nelore and mixed-breed steers with enlarged masses in the rostral portion of the mandible.

Quantum Chemical NMR Spectroscopic Structural Analysis in Solution: The Investigation of 3-Indoleacetic Acid Dimer Formation in Chloroform and DMSO Solution.

We present a DFT-PCM NMR study of 3-indoleacetic acid (3-IAA), used as a working example, including explicit solvent molecules, named PCM-nCHCl, PCM-nDMSO (n = 0, 2, 4, 8, 14, 20, and 25), to investigate the dimer formation in solution. Apart from well-known cyclic (I) and open (II) acetic acid (AA) dimers, two new structures were located on DFT-PCM potential energy surface (PES) for 3-IAA named quasicyclic A (III) and quasicyclic B (IV), the last one having N-H…O hydrogen bond (instead of O-H…O). In addition, four other structures having π-π type interactions named V, VI, VII, and VIII were also obtained completing the sample on the PES.

Objective: Chagas disease can cause several complications, such as Chagas cardiomyopathy, the most severe clinical form of the disease. Chagas cardiomyopathy is complex and involves biological and psychosocial factors that can compromise health-related quality of life. However, it is necessary to establish interactions that significantly impact the health-related quality of life of this population.

Background: Dengue virus (DENV) infection, a mosquito-borne disease, presents a significant public health challenge globally, with diverse clinical manifestations. Although oral dengue manifestations are uncommon, they can serve as crucial diagnostic indicators and impact patient management in dental practice. This scoping review aims to map the evidence on the oral manifestations associated with DENV infection and their clinical implications for dental practice.

Photobiomodulation and aquatic training reduce TNF-α expression and enhance muscle fiber area in Wistar rats with compensatory hypertrophy.

This study aims to assess the effects of aquatic training (AT) and its combination with photobiomodulation (PBM) on cytokine synthesis and plantar muscle morphology during compensatory hypertrophy (H) in Wistar rats. H was induced by bilateral ablation of synergistic muscles, and PBM using a laser (780 nm). AT involved 60 min sessions, 5 times/week, for 7 and 14 days.

Fungal lignocellulolytic enzymes: an in silico and full factorial design approach.

Efficient degradation of lignocellulosic biomass is key for the production of value-added products, contributing to sustainable and renewable solutions. This study employs a two-step approach to evaluate lignocellulolytic enzymes of Ceratocystis paradoxa, Colletotrichum falcatum, and Sporisorium scitamineum. First, an in silico genomic analysis was conducted to predict the potential enzyme groups produced by these fungi.

Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation in inborn errors of metabolism-a retrospective analysis on behalf of the pediatric disease working party from the Brazilian Society of Bone Marrow Transplantation and Cellular Therapy.

Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) is an established treatment for selected patients with inborn errors of metabolism. In this first report from the PDWP-SBTMO, we included 105 patients transplanted between 1988 and 2021 across six Brazilian HSCT centers. The most prevalent diseases were X-linked adrenoleukodystrophy (n = 61) and mucopolysaccharidosis (type I n = 20; type II n = 10), with a median age at HSCT of 8.

Machine learning approach for noninvasive intracranial pressure estimation using pulsatile cranial expansion waveforms.

Noninvasive methods for intracranial pressure (ICP) monitoring have emerged, but none has successfully replaced invasive techniques. This observational study developed and tested a machine learning (ML) model to estimate ICP using waveforms from a cranial extensometer device (brain4care [B4C] System). The model explored multiple waveform parameters to optimize mean ICP estimation.

However, poorly executed processes in these institutions can lead to risks and harm to patients, especially in identifying drug related problems. This fact justifies the proposal of tools to support the diagnosis, management and resolution of these problems.

It is well established that sleep promotes health and welfare. Literature data suggests that sleep is a recurrent resting state that performs multiple biological functions, such as memory consolidation and regulation of glucose, lipid metabolism, energy metabolism, eating behavior, and blood pressure, besides, regulating the immune system. These immunological functions depend on regular sleep and circadian rhythms, as both impact the magnitude of immune responses.

Shift work sleep disorder (SWSD) is a circadian rhythm sleep-wake disorders affecting individuals who work in nonstandard hours, particularly night shifts. It manifests as difficulty sleeping during the day and staying awake during work hours, leading to health issues. SWSD is not universally experienced by all shift workers, with about 30% affected.

Jacob Fidelis Ackermann (1765-1815): pioneer in the anatomical description of basilar invagination.

Jacob Fidelis Ackermann was a German Medical Doctor born in 1765 in the city of Rüdesheim. Between 1789 and 1815 years he was professor of medicine at the universities of Mainz and Heidelberg, teaching the disciplines of anatomy, physiology, botany, and natural history. In his famous work on basilar invagination, Ackermann described and illustrated the cranial base flattening in two skulls from Italy.
