Despite the relevance of kidney transplantation, the supply of organs and the process for inclusion in its waiting list still represent obstacles. This study aimed to analyze the performance of dialysis centers in referring patients for pre-kidney transplant evaluation and inclusion in the waiting list of incident dialysis patients from 2015 to 2019 in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. This retrospective cohort study sampled 23,297 records of patients who underwent dialysis therapy in public or philanthropic institutions or who had their treatment funded by the Brazilian Unified National Health System in private clinics.

This study aimed to describe the profile and calculate the years of potential life lost (YPLL) due to liver diseases in Brazilian agricultural workers from 2017 to 2022. For this, we analyzed microdata available in the Brazilian Mortality Information System considering the underlying cause of death with codes K70-K77 (International Classsification of Disease, 10th revision - ICD-10) as the outcome of interest. Workers' profile was characterized according to sociodemographic variables and Brazilian regions, forming a comparison group with all other Brazilian workers aged from 18-69 years who died in the same period and from the same underlying cause.

Species of the complex cause postbloom fruit drop of citrus and anthracnose fruit rot of strawberries. produces acervuli in diseased citrus flowers and strawberry fruit, surviving asymptomatically on vegetative tissues. Previous studies have suggested that dispersal mechanisms other than windblown rain may be involved in dispersal of conidia of sensu lato.

Stable understory microclimates within undisturbed rainforests are often considered refugia against climate change. However, this assumption contrasts with emerging evidence of Neotropical bird population declines in intact rainforests. We assessed the vulnerability of resident rainforest birds to climatic variability, focusing on dry season severity characterized by hotter temperatures and reduced rainfall.

The proliferation of cyanobacteria has become a significant water management challenge due to the increasing eutrophication of water supply reservoirs. Cyanobacterial blooms thrive on elevated nutrient concentrations and form extensive green mats, disrupting the local ecosystem. Furthermore, many cyanobacterial species can produce toxins that are lethal to vertebrates called cyanotoxins.

Our objective was to assess the effect of Venous Leg Ulcer (VLU) healing on Quality of Life (QoL) in patients undergoing compression therapy. This non-randomized, quasi-experimental, and observational study involved patients with VLU. A convenience sample of individuals receiving services was followed for at least one year while undergoing compression therapy.

Background: To develop an effective vaccine against Plasmodium vivax, the most widely dispersed human malaria parasite, it is critical to understand how coinfections with other pathogens could impact malaria-specific immune response. A recent conceptual study proposed that Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), a highly prevalent human herpesvirus that establishes lifelong persistent infection, may influence P. vivax antibody responses.

We evaluated the effects of breed and mineral source on heifer performance during periods of nutrient restriction and grazing. On day -7, ½ Angus × ½ Nelore (ANE) and Nelore (NE) heifers (12 heifers per breed; body weight, BW = 264 ± 35 kg; age = 15 ± 1 mo) were assigned to individual drylot pens to receive ad libitum Tifton 85 (Cynodon sp.) hay and white salt for 7 days.

In this work, a theoretical approach is developed to investigate the structural properties of ionic microgels induced by a circularly polarized (CP) electric field. Following a similar study on chain formation in the presence of linearly polarized fields [T. Colla , , 2018, , 4321-4337], we propose an effective potential between microgels which incorporates the field-induced interactions a static, time averaged polarizing charge at the particle surface.

We introduce and explore the notion of texture of an arbitrary quantum state, in a selected basis. In the first part of this Letter we develop a resource theory and show that state texture is adequately described by an easily computable monotone, which is also directly measurable. It is shown that textures are useful in the characterization of unknown quantum gates in universal circuit layers.

We employ the isomonodromic method to study linear scalar massive perturbations of Kerr black holes for generic scalar masses Mμ and generic black hole spins a/M. We find that the longest-living quasinormal mode and the first overtone coincide for (Mμ)_{c}≃0.370 4981 and (a/M)_{c}≃0.

Z boson events at the Large Hadron Collider can be selected with high purity and are sensitive to a diverse range of QCD phenomena. As a result, these events are often used to probe the nature of the strong force, improve Monte Carlo event generators, and search for deviations from standard model predictions. All previous measurements of Z boson production characterize the event properties using a small number of observables and present the results as differential cross sections in predetermined bins.

A comprehensive study of the angular distributions in the bottom-baryon decays Λ_{b}^{0}→Λ_{c}^{+}h^{-}(h=π,K), followed by Λ_{c}^{+}→Λh^{+} with Λ→pπ^{-} or Λ_{c}^{+}→pK_{S}^{0} decays, is performed using a data sample of proton-proton collisions corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb^{-1} collected by the LHCb experiment at center-of-mass energies of 7, 8, and 13 TeV. The decay parameters and the associated charge-parity (CP) asymmetries are measured, with no significant CP violation observed. For the first time, the Λ_{b}^{0}→Λ_{c}^{+}h^{-} decay parameters are measured.

The objective of this work was to investigate the biofilm production capacity of the isolate EB-40 (Bacillus cereus) in a culture medium for the multiplication of microorganisms and in roots of in vitro grown banana explants. It was observed that the isolate was able to produce biofilms in tryptone, soy and agar (TSA) culture medium and in the roots of explants. The format, architecture and location of the biofilms in TSA culture medium presented an exopolymer matrix formed by EB-40 presented coccoid bacillary cells and fibrillar structures.

Adjuvants are crucial for maintaining specific, protective, and long-lasting immunity. Here, we aimed to evaluate the antigenic and immunogenic activity of a recombinant form of the S1 domain of the Spike protein, associated with biogenic silver nanoparticles (bio-AgNP) and Alhydrogel as an alternative and conventional adjuvant, respectively, for a SARS-CoV-2 subunit vaccine. We produced and evaluated the antigenicity of the recombinant S1 (rS1) protein by testing its recognition by antibodies present in SARS-CoV-2 positive human serum.

The CCl-induced hepatotoxicity model is a traditional preclinical assay applied to evaluate potential hepatoprotective compounds. However, several studies have used it with inappropriate dose and exposure time, generating both weak response or irreversible liver injury, as well as lack of representative liver and plasma biomarkers. Therefore, this study aims to determine the best dose and exposure time of CCl in Wistar rats, permitting a proper evaluation of potential hepatoprotective effect.

Clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) and consensus-based recommendations (CBRs) require considerable effort, collaboration, and time-all within the constraints of finite resources. Professional societies, such as the International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE), must prioritize what topics and questions to address. Implementing evidence-based care remains a crucial challenge in clinical practice.

Political circumstances in Argentina and in Chile were a great determinant of the evolution, dispersion, and re-encounters of the group members. The initial graduate students in the group developed their own research groups working in various Countries and on a variety of projects.

is a pathogen that causes sporadic cases and outbreaks of diarrhea. The main virulence feature of this bacterium is the attaching and effacing (AE) lesion formation on infected intestinal epithelial cells, which is characterized by the formation of pedestal-like structures that are rich in F-actin. The Brazilian 1551-2 strain can recruit F-actin using both the Nck-dependent and the Nck-independent pathways, the latter of which uses an adaptor protein named Tir-cytoskeleton coupling protein (TccP/EspF).
