The complexity of selecting for drought tolerance in cassava, influenced by multiple factors, demands innovative approaches to plant selection. This study aimed to identify cassava clones with tolerance to water stress by employing truncated selection and selection based on genomic values for population improvement and genotype evaluation . The Best Linear Unbiased Predictions (BLUPs), Genomic Estimated Breeding Values (GEBVs), and Genomic Estimated Genotypic Values (GETGVs) were obtained based on different prediction models via genomic selection.

Research on social assistive robots in education faces many challenges that extend beyond technical issues. On one hand, hardware and software limitations, such as algorithm accuracy in real-world applications, render this approach difficult for daily use. On the other hand, there are human factors that need addressing as well, such as student motivations and expectations toward the robot, teachers' time management and lack of knowledge to deal with such technologies, and effective communication between experimenters and stakeholders.

Background: Non-invasive brain stimulation (NIBS) techniques, such as transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) and transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS), may offer an alternative treatment strategy for impulsive behaviour. By modulating brain activity, these techniques could potentially enhance impulse control and mitigate impulsivity.
Aims: To provide a comprehensive analysis of the correlation between NIBS parameters, targeted brain regions and impulsivity.

To form a unified and coherent perception of the organism's state and its relationship with the surrounding environment, the nervous system combines information from various sensory modalities through multisensory integration processes. Occasionally, data from two or more sensory channels may provide conflicting information. This is particularly evident in experiments using the mirror-guided drawing task and the mirror-box illusion, where there is conflict between positional estimates guided by vision and proprioception.

Periodontitis is a highly prevalent chronic disease. Despite decades of extensive research on the topic, a complete understanding of its immunopathogenesis, especially when linked to other inflammatory comorbidities, is lacking. human and animal experiments have shown the host inflammatory response's crucial role in both the disease's onset and its systemic implications.

The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly impacted global health, especially in vulnerable populations like kidney transplant recipients (KTRs). Recently, mass spectrometry-based proteomics has emerged as a powerful tool to shed light on a broad spectrum of dysregulated biological processes in KTRs with COVID-19. In this study, we prospectively collected blood samples from 17 COVID-19-positive KTRs and 10 non-infected KTRs between May and September 2020.

Objective: We aimed to evaluate the characteristics, complications and outcomes of necrotizing pneumonia (NP) requiring surgical intervention.
Methods: We conducted a retrospective study of all children who underwent surgical therapy for NP from January 2010 to December 2023. Patients were analyzed based on two surgical approaches: anatomic resection (AR) or non-AR (NAR).

Background: Urinary retention in obstructed male cats leads to changes in blood and urine compounds, which, combined with the time of obstruction, are linked to the worsening of the animal's clinical status.
Aim: This study aimed to describe the primary laboratory changes in male cats with urethral obstruction (UO).
Methods: Medical records of 386 male cats diagnosed with UO and treated at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Zootechnics (FMVZ), UNESP-Botucatu, between 2010 and 2020 were reviewed.

Background: Surgeries performed on the gastrointestinal system represent a significant caseload among small animal surgeries. Colostomy aims to temporarily or permanently divert the gastrointestinal tract but it is not commonly performed in veterinary medicine. Information regarding such procedures is scarce and the surgical technique is poorly described.

To understand the transcriptomic profile of an individual cell in a multicellular organism, we must comprehend its surrounding environment and the cellular space where distinct molecular stimuli responses are located. Contradicting the initial perception that RNAs were nonfunctional and that only a few could act in chromatin remodeling, over the last few decades, research has revealed that they are multifaceted, versatile regulators of most cellular processes. Among the various RNAs, long non-coding RNAs (LncRNAs) regulate multiple biological processes and can even impact cell fate.

The brown howler, , endemic to the Atlantic Forest of Brazil and Argentina, is threatened by habitat loss and fragmentation, hunting, and its susceptibility to yellow fever. Two subspecies have been recognized, but their names, validity, and geographic ranges have been controversial. We obtained samples covering the species' entire distribution in Brazil and Argentina to clarify these issues by investigating their genetic diversity and structure and assessing their evolutionary history.

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative condition characterized by the loss of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra pars compacta (SNc) of the brain, manifesting itself with both motor and non-motor symptoms. A critical element of this pathology is neuroinflammation, which triggers a harmful neurotoxic cycle, exacerbating cell death within the central nervous system. AD-16 (also known as GIBH-130) is a recently identified compound capable of reducing the expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines while increasing the expression of anti-inflammatory cytokines in Alzheimer's disease models.

Understanding what people believe the causes of autism to be has implications for experiences of familial guilt and stigma. Using a qualitative approach, we investigated how Brazilian healthcare professionals, parents of young and adult autistic people and young and adult autistic people consider the origins of autism and the interaction between the biological and social environment concerning the challenges autistic people encounter. Eight health professionals who assist autistic people, five young autistic people, six family members of young autistic people, five autistic adults, and four parents of autistic adults participated in the research.

The Ti6Al4V alloy is widely recognized for its extensive industrial applications, particularly in the aeronautics sector, due to its exceptional strength to-weight ratio and corrosion resistance. In this context, many industrial processes depend critically on surface area, topology, and roughness. A promising approach involves combining Ti6Al4V alloy with polymer composites, which offers significant potential for engineers to design parts that are not only high-performing but also environmentally friendly.

Cervical cancer (CC) is a global public health concern, primarily caused by persistent infection with oncogenic types of human papillomavirus (HPV). The World Health Organization (WHO) has established a plan to eliminate CC as a public health issue by the year 2100. However, the implementation of the HPV vaccine is impeded by vaccine restrictions and misinformation despite its demonstrated effectiveness.
