Background: Preeclampsia is a major hypertensive disorder of pregnancy, which may lead to severe complications, particularly in the first two weeks of the postpartum period. During the postpartum period, blood pressure levels remain high, often increasing to levels higher than those experienced during pregnancy. Furosemide, a fast-acting diuretic, reduces the intravascular volume overload and may represent an alternative to accelerate the normalization of blood pressure levels.

Home mechanical ventilation: a narrative review and a proposal of practical approach.

Growing evidence of the benefits of home ventilatory support in patients with chronic respiratory failure along with technological advances in ventilators have enabled their use in overly complex situations, shaping a new scenario for physicians. This has further given rise to new challenges related to their incorporation into current medical practice. However, this evolution needs to be coupled with knowledge and skills of physicians who are willing to prescribe Home Mechanical Ventilation (HMV), in order to prevent them from making inappropriate choices or adjustments that may ultimately have ethical and legal implications.

Here, we demonstrated that Metarhizium anisopliae and Metarhizium pingshaense, differently from Beauveria bassiana, reduced the percentage of nymphs hatching to less than 3%.

Trace amine signaling in zebrafish models: CNS pharmacology, behavioral regulation and translational relevance.

Tyramine, β-phenylethylamine, octopamine and other trace amines are endogenous substances recently recognized as important novel neurotransmitters in the brain. Trace amines act via multiple selective trace amine-associated receptors (TAARs) of the G protein-coupled receptor family. TAARs are expressed in various brain regions and modulate neurotransmission, neuronal excitability, adult neurogenesis, cognition, mood, locomotor activity and olfaction.

Investigation of the participation of the TRPV1 receptor in the irritant effect of dithranol in mice.

Dithranol is one of the most effective topical medications for treating plaque psoriasis. However, its clinical use is limited by irritative adverse reactions to the skin, such as oedema, erythema, and pruritus, caused by poorly understood mechanisms. Because TRPV1 activation mediates skin irritation caused by several drugs, we conducted blind and randomised experiments in male and female C57BL/6 mice to elucidate the role of TRPV1 in dithranol-induced irritation.

Background: Melanocytic neoplasms are rare in the oral cavity and represent a diagnostic challenge due to the overlap between benign and malignant lesions. However, their pathogenesis is not fully elucidated. The aim of this study was to evaluate the expression of the cell cycle-related proteins p16, CDK4, and PTEN in oral melanocytic nevi and melanomas.

Time-dependent fear memory generalization triggered by phosphodiesterase 5 inhibition during reconsolidation.

Fear generalization, a lack of discrimination between safe and unsafe cues, is a hallmark of posttraumatic stress disorder. The phosphodiesterase 5 (PDE5) regulates the cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) pathway, which has been proposed to be involved in fear memory generalization. However, whether PDE5 activity underlies fear memory generalization remains unexplored.

Oxidative stress and obesity are associated with endothelial dysfunction and subclinical atherosclerosis in adolescents.

Objectives: This study explores the relationship between obesity, endothelial dysfunction, and the critical role of oxidative stress biomarkers in subclinical atherosclerosis.

Design & Methods: The study included 114 adolescents aged 12-17 years from Juiz de Fora, Brazil, divided into 40 individuals with obesity and 74 controls. Physical and biochemical assessments were conducted, including measurements of Brachial Flow-Mediated Dilation (BFMD), Carotid Intima-Media Thickness (IMT), and oxidative biomarkers such as nitrite, nitrate, and 8-isoprostane.

Alliumcepa exposed to Nativo® fungicide with and without swine liver enzyme biotransformation: A comparative genotoxicity study.

The biotransformation of compounds is a critical point in understanding their toxic effects in both toxicology and ecotoxicology. The objective of this study was to evaluate whether there is a difference in the phytogenotoxic potential of the commercial fungicide Nativo® between non-biotransformed samples and samples biotransformed by swine liver enzymes. The fungicide Nativo is a mixture of Tebuconazole (TEB; 200 g L) and Trifloxystrobin (TRI; 100 g L).

How a responsive reproduction factor is determinant in a prey-predator dynamics: A numerical and analytical study in a discrete-time model.

In this work, we investigate the dynamics of a discrete-time prey-predator model considering a prey reproductive response as a function of the predation risk, with the prey population growth factor governed by two parameters. The system can evolve toward scenarios of mutual or only of predators extinction, or species coexistence. We analytically show all different types of equilibrium points depending on the ranges of growth parameters.

Ear acupuncture with laser and needles in the treatment of anxiety in university students: a randomized clinical trial.

Objective: To compare the effectiveness of ear acupuncture with laser and needles in the treatment of anxiety in university students in the post-pandemic context of Covid-19, as well as to evaluate the possible symptoms or adverse reactions triggered by the interventions.

Method: Randomized clinical trial carried out with 126 university students, allocated to the "Needle" (control) and "Laser" (experimental) groups. Five ear acupuncture sessions were performed.

The school environment in the experience of children with special health needs: a qualitative study.

Objective: To understand the experience of children with special health needs at school.

Method: Qualitative research using Symbolic Interactionism as a theoretical framework and assumptions of Grounded Theory as a methodological framework. Data collected in a pediatric outpatient clinic of a teaching hospital in an inland city of the state of São Paulo.

Prenatal tests in Brazil: prevalence and associated factors according to the Brazilian National Health Survey.

Objective: To analyze the prevalence of prenatal tests of pregnant women and factors associated with variation in this prevalence in the years of the Brazilian National Health Survey 2013 and 2019.

Method: A cross-sectional study, carried out with women who underwent prenatal care, interviewed in the Brazilian National Health Survey 2013 (n = 1,851) and 2019 (n = 2,729).

Results: The most prevalent tests were urine and blood, and the least prevalent were syphilis and HIV.

Nursing team proxemic mapping in the hemotherapy space.

Objective: To analyze the influence of proxemic factors on communication and care provided by nursing professionals during transfusion in hemotherapy.

Method: A descriptive, exploratory and qualitative study with 25 nursing professionals from a hospital specializing in onco-hematological diseases in Rio de Janeiro, based on a systematized script, individual records of proxemic factors described by Edward Hall and recorded situational interviews. The analysis considered data thematic content and used the SketchUp 3D Modeling Software Review program to visually demonstrate the behavioral mapping of the interaction of nursing professionals with patients during care.

Self-care conditioning factors in women and men with urinary incontinence and Human T-Lymphotropic Virus Type 1.

Objective: To analyze self-care conditioning factors in women and men with urinary incontinence symptoms living with the Human T-Lymphotropic Virus Type 1.

Method: Qualitative study, based on the pragmatic phase of Praxis Model for Technology Development. Twelve women and five adult men living with Human T-Lymphotropic Virus Type 1, residing in Bahia, Brazil, participated in the study.

Autoantibody clusters in childhood-onset systemic lupus erythematosus: Insights from a multicenter study with 912 patients.

To identify clusters of autoantibodies in a large cSLE population and to verify possible associations between different autoantibody clusters and the following variables: demographic data, cumulative clinical and laboratory manifestations, disease activity, cumulative damage and mortality. A cross-sectional study was performed in 27 Pediatric Rheumatology University centers, including 912 cSLE patients. The frequencies of seven selected autoantibodies (anti-dsDNA, anti-Ro/SSA, anti-La/SSB, anti-Sm, anti-RNP, aCL IgM and/or IgG and LA) were used for cluster analysis using the K-means method.

Melatonin influence on miRNA expression in sperm, hypothalamus, pre-frontal cortex and cerebellum of Wistar rats.

Melatonin is a pineal hormone synthesized exclusively at night, in several organisms. Its action on sperm is of particular interest, since they transfer genetic and epigenetic information to the offspring, including microRNAs, configuring a mechanism of paternal epigenetic inheritance. MicroRNAs are known to participate in a wide variety of mechanisms in basically all cells and tissues, including the brain and the sperm cells, which are known, respectively, to present 70% of all identified microRNAs and to transfer these molecules to the embryo.

Does pregnancy in adolescence increase the chances of osteoporosis among aged women? Findings from the ELSI study.

Objective: Bone mineral density changes during the life span, rising rapidly during adolescence, plateauing around 30 years of age and decreasing in later years. Life events such as pregnancy and lactation temporarily reduce bone density, and their long-term effects on osteoporosis development are still unclear. This study aimed to analyse the association between pregnancy in adolescence and osteoporosis in aged women.

Angiotensin II (Ang II) is the most active peptide hormone produced by the renin-angiotensin system (RAS). Genetic deletion of genes that ultimately restrict Ang II formation has been shown to result in marked anemia in mice. In this study, adult mice with a genetic deletion of the RAS precursor protein angiotensinogen (Agt-KO) were used.

Impact of CB1 receptor antagonism on skeletal muscle hypertrophy and metabolic health: a systematic review of preclinical studies.

The endocannabinoid system (ECS), regulating such processes as energy homeostasis, inflammation, and muscle function, centers around cannabinoid receptors, including CB1. These receptors are mainly located in the central nervous system and skeletal muscles. Hyperactivity of CB1 receptors is linked to metabolic disorders and chronic inflammation, highlighting their potential as therapeutic targets for muscle hypertrophy and metabolic health.

Resveratrol, a natural polyphenol, has shown promising neuroprotective effects in several in vivo and in vitro experimental models. Evaluation of the importance of sediment organic matter composition for CH production by microcosm tests with and without addition of natural sources (cyanobacterial biomass and riparian pasture) in two subtropical, eutrophic reservoirs.

The biochemical composition of sediments, which depends on the origin of the organic matter (OM), is decisive in methane (CH) production. This study aimed to determine the CH produced under anaerobic conditions from different substrates: native reservoir sediments and sediments with the addition of complex OM from Microcystis spp. blooms and terrestrial plants (pasture), alongside the biochemical characterization of the substrates used.
