Inactivated SARS-CoV-2 induces acute skeletal muscle damage in human K18-hACE2 transgenic mice.

The pandemic due to severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) resulted in over 7 million global fatalities and billions of individuals diagnosed with COVID-19. Acute and chronic muscle impairment associated with SARS-CoV-2 infection affected a substantial number of patients, leading to the development of symptoms such as fatigue, muscle pain, and exercise intolerance. Our study introduces an animal model to improve understanding of the pathogenicity caused by SARS-CoV-2 in human skeletal muscle.

Recently, the National Health Surveillance Agency (ANVISA) of Brazil recalled several lots of sartan drugs due to the presence of N-nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA). NDMA is a highly potent carcinogenic contaminant that harms human health; therefore, the presence of NDMA in sartan drugs must be checked through appropriate analytical methods. This work successfully developed a new analytical method for determining NDMA without chemical pretreatment of losartan and olmesartan drug samples.

Neotropical monkeys are more severely stricken by YF and the impact of the disease can be devastating to the endangered golden-headed lion tamarins (GHLTs, Leontopithecus chrysomelas). Identification of cis-sQTL demonstrates genetic associations and functional implications of inflammatory processes in Nelore cattle muscle tissue.

This study aimed to identify splicing quantitative trait loci (cis-sQTL) in Nelore cattle muscle tissue and explore the involvement of spliced genes (sGenes) in immune system-related biological processes. Genotypic data from 80 intact male Nelore cattle were obtained using SNP-Chip technology, while RNA-Seq analysis was performed to measure gene expression levels, enabling the integration of genomic and transcriptomic datasets. The normalized expression levels of spliced transcripts were associated with single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) through an analysis of variance using an additive linear model with the MatrixEQTL package.
