This retrospective study explored the association between circulating cell-free plasma telomere length (cf-TL) and coronary artery disease (CAD) and heart failure (HF). Data from 518 participants were collected, including clinical and laboratory data. cf-TL was measured in plasma samples and machine learning (ML) classification models were developed to differentiate between CAD, HF and control conditions.

Alveolar epithelial type II cells (AEII) synthesize, store, and recycle surfactant. Lipids and primarily hydrophobic surfactant proteins (SPs) are stored in lamellar bodies (Lbs) while the hydrophilic SPs and the precursors of hydrophobic SPs are stored in multivesicular bodies (mvb). ErbB4-receptor and its ligand neuregulin (NRG) are important regulators of fetal lung development and fetal surfactant synthesis.

Background: Heart rate (HR) monitoring is a medical standard to provide information about a patient's health status. In palliative care, relationship and social engagement are crucial therapeutic concepts. For fear of disrupting communication, social contact, and care, continuous HR monitoring is underutilised despite its potential to inform on symptom burden and therapeutic effects.

Background: Low back pain (LBP) is a common health complaint and a prominent factor in the development of LBP among the working population is stress. Mostly, stress is addressed as a general problem, which is why LBP prevention programs are often imprecise. Accordingly, a closer look at the association between specific stress types and the development of LBP is necessary.

Objective: Rapid digitisation of health occurred during the COVID-19 pandemic worldwide. In October 2020, we conducted a survey on digital health technology use in Germany. This study aimed to conduct a second survey to investigate in more detail the internet use in health context and digital technology use for health promotion and disease prevention in Germany.

Background: Improving precision medicine in chemotherapy requires highly sensitive and easily applicable diagnostic tools. In addition, non-invasive molecular real-time monitoring of cytotoxic response is highly desirable. Here, we employed the kinetics of DNA double-strand breaks (DSB) and cell-free DNA (cfDNA) in a cell model of topoisomerase II-inhibitors in T cell leukemia (Jurkat cells) compared to normal cells (peripheral blood mononuclear cells, PBMCs).

This review presents a comprehensive analysis of current research on biological treatment processes for removing pharmaceutical compounds (PhCs) from wastewater. Unlike previous studies on this topic, our study specifically delves into the effectiveness and drawbacks of various treatment approaches such as traditional wastewater treatment facilities (WWTP), membrane bioreactors (MBRs), constructed wetlands (CW), and moving bed biofilm reactors (MBBR). Through the examination and synthesis of information gathered from more than 200 research studies, we have created a comprehensive database that delves into the effectiveness of eliminating 19 particular PhCs, including commonly studied compounds such as acetaminophen, ibuprofen, diclofenac, naproxen, ketoprofen, indomethacin, salicylic acid, codeine, and fenoprofen, amoxicillin, azithromycin, ciprofloxacin, ofloxacin, tetracycline, atenolol, propranolol, and metoprolol.

Over the last few years, the influence of low temperature (≤80 °C) and, in particular, of room temperature, atomic layer deposited alumina (ALD-AlO) on the properties of the underlying hybrid perovskites of different compositions and on the efficiency and stability of the corresponding perovskite solar cells (PSCs) is extensively investigated. The main conclusion is that most probably thanks to the presence of intrinsic defect states in the ALD-AlO and in the perovskite layers, charge transfer and neutralization are possible and the entire lifetime of the PSCs is thus improved. Moreover, the migration of mobile ions between the layers is blocked by the ALD-AlO layer and thus the occurrence of hysteresis in the current density-voltage characteristics of the PSCs is suppressed.

Background: Obesity's negative impact on young people's health has long been known. The family and its socioeconomic position (SEP) are key determinants in adolescent obesity. However, understanding which familial determinants explain the association remains limited.

Purpose: Building on research suggesting that the COVID-19 pandemic may have led to an exacerbation of deteriorating trends in mental health among adolescents, this paper examined trends in adolescents' psychological and somatic complaints across 35 countries from 2010 to 2022, and tested trends in sociodemographic inequalities in these outcomes between 2018 and 2022.
Methods: Using data from 792,606 adolescents from 35 countries (51% girls; mean age = 13.5; standard deviation 1.
Biotic interactions are crucial for determining the structure and dynamics of communities; however, direct measurement of these interactions can be challenging in terms of time and resources, especially when numerous species are involved. Inferring species interactions from species co-occurrence patterns is increasingly being used; however, recent studies have highlighted some limitations. To our knowledge, no attempt has been made to test the accuracy of the existing methods for detecting mutualistic interactions in terrestrial ecosystems.

Anaerobic ammonium oxidation (anammox) poses an emerging research field as it can outstand previous processes of biological wastewater treatment in terms of efficiency and costs. Anammox bacteria have the ability to metabolise NH and NO to produce N under anaerobic conditions. Despite numerous studies, there is a lack of research on the co-occurrence and interrelationship of the predominant microbes that inhabit anammox-related processes.

Background: Physical therapy interventions play a crucial role in the daily care of patients recovering from severe stroke. However, the efficacy of these interventions and associated modalities, including duration, intensity, and frequency, have not been fully elucidated. In 2020, a systematic review reported the beneficial effects of physical therapy for patients with severe stroke but did not assess therapeutic modalities.

Rationale: Clinical practice guidelines summarise the existing evidence on specific health conditions and aim to optimise quality of care by providing evidence-based recommendations. Studies have reported a gap between research findings and clinical practice in physiotherapy. Guideline adherence is often used as a measure of agreement between therapeutic care and guideline recommendations.

Atherosclerosis is initiated by injury or damage to the vascular endothelial cell monolayer. Therefore, the early repair of the damaged vascular endothelium by a proliferation of neighbouring endothelial cells is important to prevent atherosclerosis and thrombotic events. (AP) has been used as a dietary supplement, mainly due to its high content of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and pigments such as chlorophylls, carotenoids, and phycocyanin, ingredients with antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-thrombotic properties.

We study field effect nanotransistor devices in the Si/SiO material system which are based on lateral resonant tunneling between two parallel conduction channels. After introducing a simple piecewise linear potential model, we calculate the quantum transport properties in the R-matrix approach. In the transfer characteristics, we find a narrow resonant tunneling peak around zero control voltage.

Recent advances in laser scanning systems have enabled the acquisition of 3D point cloud representations of scenes, revolutionizing the fields of Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC). This paper presents a novel pipeline for the automatic generation of 3D semantic models of multi-level buildings from indoor point clouds. The architectural components are extracted hierarchically.

Background: Since the Substrate and Trigger Ablation for Reduction of Atrial Fibrillation Trial Part II (STAR-AF II), there has been a trend toward pulmonary vein isolation (PVI)-only ablation strategies for persistent atrial fibrillation (PeAF). Electrographic flow (EGF) mapping can identify active sources of atrial fibrillation (AF) and estimate the electrographic flow consistency (EGFC) of wavefront propagation through substrate, revealing functional AF mechanisms.
Objective: We sought to examine the success of a PVI-only ablation strategy for a redo PeAF/longstanding PeAF population.

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) represent a high burden for the society and affected individuals. Conservative non-pharmacological interventions play a first-line role in the treatment and management of most NCDs. Systematic reviews (SRs) provide the highest level of evidence and significantly influence clinical decision-making.
