Fostering Shared Decision-Making Between Patients and Health Care Professionals in Clinical Practice Guidelines: Protocol for a Project to Develop and Test a Tool for Guideline Developers.

Background: Clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) are designed to assist health care professionals in medical decision-making, but they often lack effective integration of shared decision-making (SDM) principles to reflect patient values and preferences, particularly in the context of preference-sensitive CPG recommendations. To address this shortcoming and foster SDM through CPGs, the integration of patient decision aids (PDAs) into CPGs has been proposed as an important strategy. However, methods for systematically identifying and prioritizing CPG recommendations relevant to SDM and related decision support tools are currently lacking.

Prediction of breast cancer risk for adolescents and young adults with Hodgkin lymphoma.

Background: While female survivors of Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) have an increased risk of breast cancer (BC), no BC risk prediction model is available. We developed such models incorporating mean radiation dose to the breast or breast quadrant-specific radiation doses.

Methods: Relative risks and age-specific incidence for BC and competing events (mortality or other subsequent cancer) were estimated from 1194 Dutch five-year HL survivors, treated at ages 11-40 during 1965-2000.

Exploring the Relationship Needs of Service Users During Crisis Interventions: A Qualitative Study.

People in crisis sometimes seek professional support, and the relationship between service users and professionals is crucial in overcoming the crisis. To understand the relationship needs of people in crisis, 29 semi-structured interviews with service users were conducted and analyzed using a grounded-theory approach. The findings reveal that people in crisis seek a professional who is there for them, recognizes the crisis as an emergency and a solvable situation, treats them with respect, and offers individual support.

Intra-articular knee injections in patients with primary osteoarthritis in a tertiary clinical setting: a best practice implementation project.

Aims: This project aimed to improve physicians' adherence to evidence-based practices regarding the selection and administration of intra-articular knee injections for patients with osteoarthritis. The project also aimed to empower patients by increasing their awareness of these evidence-based practices.

Introduction: In the management of knee osteoarthritis, intra-articular injections are commonly used when initial treatments prove inadequate.

Objectives: To determine the safety and oncological advantages of en bloc resection of bladder tumour (ERBT) vs conventional transurethral resection of bladder tumour (cTURBT) in terms of resection quality, staging quality, and safety.

Patients And Methods: We conducted a single-blinded randomised controlled trial at seven European hospitals with the following inclusion criteria: first diagnosis of non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer, no singular carcinoma in situ, and tumour size >4.3 mm.

Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted from 2021 to 2023 across 324 medical organizations in Kazakhstan, including 232 organizations in 2021, 76 in 2022, and 16 in 2023.

Background: Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) patients treated in an intensive care unit (ICU) are at high risk of developing cognitive impairments of a "post-intensive care syndrome" (PICS). We explored whether critically ill COVID-19 and non-COVID-19 survivors differ in their post-ICU recovery course in terms of severity and affected cognitive domains.

Background: Reliable scientific information is crucial for assessing hip function and evaluating the success of hip surgery. The Harris Hip Score (HHS) is the most widely used tool for measuring hip function and, in particular, the outcomes of hip surgery. The aim of this study was to conduct a systematic review of the literature to identify randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that reported the HHS for hip replacement treatment groups and to test whether there was a substantial difference between reporting only the postoperative HHS or the HHS difference (HHSdiff).

Antigravity treadmill training after knee surgery: A scoping review.

Antigravity treadmill training provides a viable option for physiotherapeutic care after knee surgery, especially for conditions that do not allow full weight bearing during the early phase post-intervention. This overview of the current state of knowledge identifies gaps and highlights areas where more research on antigravity treadmill training after knee surgery is needed. This review aimed to analyze and summarize the available evidence concerning the effects of antigravity treadmill training on patients after knee joint surgical procedures, including anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) and total (TKA) and unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA).

Background And Objective: Scoping reviews are a type of evidence synthesis that aims to identify and map the breadth of evidence available on a particular topic, field, concept, or issue, within or across a defined context or contexts. Scoping reviews can contribute to clinical practice guideline development, policy making, reduce research waste by eliminating duplication of research effort, and be a precursor to a systematic review or inform further primary research. This article aims to provide a brief introduction of how to conduct and report scoping reviews.

Secukinumab efficacy in patients with hidradenitis suppurativa assessed by the International Hidradenitis Suppurativa Severity Score System (IHS4): A post hoc analysis of the SUNSHINE and SUNRISE trials.

Introduction: The International Hidradenitis Suppurativa Severity Score System (IHS4) is a validated tool that measures inflammatory lesions, including draining tunnels, in hidradenitis suppurativa (HS).

Objective: To evaluate secukinumab efficacy using IHS4 in patients with moderate to severe HS.

Methods: Data from the SUNSHINE and SUNRISE trials, which assessed subcutaneous secukinumab 300 mg every 2 (SECQ2W) and 4 (SECQ4W) weeks in adults with moderate to severe HS, were analyzed.

Background: Fasudil is a small molecule inhibitor of Rho-associated kinase (ROCK) and is approved for the treatment of subarachnoid haemorrhage. In preclinical studies, fasudil has been shown to attenuate neurodegeneration, modulate neuroinflammation, and foster axonal regeneration. Rationale: Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPGs) represent evidence-based tools designed to assist healthcare practitioners and patients in decisions in clinical practice. Evidence supports the clinical benefits of adhering to CPGs. However, their successful implementation and adherence in clinical settings often encounter challenges.

Standardized diagnosis of gastrointestinal tumors: an update regarding the situation in Germany.

To evaluate the current status of the diagnosis of gastrointestinal tumors in Germany by means of a survey of the oncological imaging working group of the German Radiological Society (DRG) with a focus on the CT protocols being used.Radiologists working in outpatient or inpatient care in Germany were invited. The survey was conducted between 10/2022 and 06/2023 using the SurveyMonkey web tool.

A Nationwide Analysis in France on Sex Difference and Outcomes Following Carotid Intervention in Asymptomatic Patients.

The impact of sex on outcomes following carotid endarterectomy (CEA) and carotid artery stenting (CAS) is not fully elucidated. The aim of this study was to analyze the association between sex and outcomes of asymptomatic patients who underwent primary carotid interventions in France. This nationwide retrospective study was performed using the French National Health Insurance Information System and included asymptomatic patients who underwent primary carotid intervention over a 10-year period (1 January 2013 to 31 August 2023).

Development and validation of a geographic search filter for MEDLINE (PubMed) to identify studies about Germany.

While geographic search filters exist, few of them are validated and there are currently none that focus on Germany. We aimed to develop and validate a highly sensitive geographic search filter for MEDLINE (PubMed) that identifies studies about Germany. First, using the relative recall method, we created a gold standard set of studies about Germany, dividing it into 'development' and 'testing' sets.

Insights Into Modern Undergraduate Ultrasound Education: Prospective Comparison of Digital and Analog Teaching Resources in a Flipped Classroom Concept - The DIvAN Study.

  Sonography training has become an important part of university medicine courses. This study explores the impact of digital and analog teaching resources on learning outcomes, knowledge retention, and student preferences and motivation in a flipped classroom setting.   This prospective controlled study involving two groups of third-year medical students included a voluntary three-day compact ultrasound course given in a flipped classroom, comprising 26 teaching units of 45 minutes each.

Awareness, use and perception of patient versions of clinical practice guidelines - a national cross-sectional survey among patients with a cancer diagnosis and healthcare providers.

Background: To investigate awareness, use, and perceptions of the patient guidelines (PGs) of the German Guideline Program in Oncology (GGPO) and to explore general preferences regarding cancer information among patients and healthcare providers (HCPs).

Methods: Two cross-sectional surveys among patients with cancer (November 2020-May 2021) and among HCPs (April -June 2021) were set up as anonymised, self-administered, semi-structured online surveys, including open-ended questions. Data were analysed with descriptive statistics and qualitative thematic analysis.

Intensity-dependence of auditory-evoked potentials might present an early surrogate marker for post-stroke depression.

Objective: Post-stroke depression (PSD) is a common stroke complication, associated with severe physical and cognitive impairment. Low central serotonergic tone, associated with depression, inversely correlates with the intensity-dependence of auditory-evoked potentials (IDAP). Aim of this study was to investigate IDAP's usability as early surrogate marker for PSD development by assessing the correlation between IDAP early after stroke and the occurrence of PSD from 4 weeks after stroke.
