Objectives: KRAS mutations, particularly KRAS, are prevalent in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have been a frontline treatment, but recently developed KRAS-selective inhibitors, such as sotorasib, present new therapeutic options. We conducted a multi-center retrospective cohort study to gain insights into real-world treatment patterns and outcomes in patients with KRAS-positive advanced NSCLC receiving systemic therapy post-ICI treatment.

This study evaluates the efficacy of a commercial medical Named Entity Recognition (NER) model combined with a post-processing protocol in identifying incidental pulmonary nodules from CT reports. We analyzed 9165 anonymized CT reports and classified them into 3 categories: no nodules, nodules present, and nodules >6 mm. For each report, a generic medical NER model annotated entities and their relations, which were then filtered through inclusion/exclusion criteria selected to identify pulmonary nodules.

Background: The use of Patient Controlled Analgesia (PCA) via a Continuous Ambulatory Delivery Device (CADD) is a common and effective means of pain and symptom management for hospitalized patients with a malignancy. Studies exploring the indications for starting such a device for hospitalized inpatients referred to inpatient palliative care teams are limited.
Aim: This retrospective chart review aims to explore indications, timing of initiation, and barriers to the use of a CADD.

Objectives: Osteoarthritis (OA) prevalence, severity and related comorbid conditions are greater among women compared with men, but women, particularly racialised women, are less likely than men to access OA care. We aimed to prioritise strategies needed to reduce inequities in OA management.
Design: Delphi survey of 28 strategies derived from primary research retained if at least 80% of respondents rated 6 or 7 on a 7-point Likert scale.

Introduction: NSCLC with exon 14 skipping mutation (ex14) is associated with poor outcomes. Integration of novel targeted therapies is challenging because of barriers in testing and drug access. We, therefore, sought to characterize the treatment patterns, outcomes, and emerging issues of treatment sequencing in patients with ex14-mutant NSCLC.

Background: Technological advancements have rapidly increased the use of point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) across various medical disciplines, leading to real-time information for clinicians at the bed side. However, literature reveals scant evidence of POCUS use in palliative care. The objective of this study was to examine the use of POCUS in a specialist palliative care setting.

Notwithstanding the groundbreaking achievement of hepatitis C curative treatment with direct-acting antiviral therapies, Canada faces an uphill battle in reaching the 2030 goal of viral elimination set forth by the World Health Organization, a goal made more difficult by the COVID-19 pandemic. There is limited understanding of the diagnostic and treatment barriers, and challenges in linkage to care in Canada, especially as it pertains to primary care providers in a community context. Therefore, in this article, the authors conducted a survey study to evaluate the following factors: primary care providers' knowledge of specialist treatment options and the importance of screening and treatment; and patient factors, including transportation, linguistic barriers, and other socio-economic status indicators that impact the screening and management of hepatitis C.

Objectives: Medical cannabis is often used to alleviate common symptoms in patients with chronic conditions. With cannabis legalisation in Canada and easier access, it is important that rheumatologists understand its potential impact on their practice. Among patients attending rheumatology clinics in Ontario we assessed: the prevalence of medical cannabis use; symptoms treated; rheumatologists' perceptions.

(1) Background: The COVID-19 pandemic illuminated vulnerabilities in the Canadian health care system and exposed gaps and challenges across the cancer care continuum. Canada is experiencing significant disruptions to cancer-related services, and the impact these disruptions (delays/deferrals/cancellations) have on the health care system and patients are yet to be determined. Given the potential adverse ramifications, how can Canada's health care systems build resilience for future threats? (2) Methods: To answer this question, CCC facilitated a series of four thought-leadership roundtables, each representing the views of four different stakeholder groups: patients, physicians, health care system leaders, and researchers.

The provision of hallway healthcare is a growing concern within contemporary healthcare systems. Hallway healthcare or hallway medicine is defined as the use of unconventional spaces, such as hallways, to provide patient care in the acute care setting. Negative effects associated with the prevalence of hallway healthcare may hinder the healing trajectory of vulnerable and ageing populations.

Background And Objectives: To determine whether cognitive reserve attenuates the association of vascular brain injury with cognition.
Methods: Cross-sectional data were analyzed from 2 harmonized studies: the Canadian Alliance for Healthy Hearts and Healthy Minds (CAHHM) and the Prospective Urban and Rural Epidemiology (PURE) study. Markers of cognitive reserve were education, involvement in social activities, marital status, height, and leisure physical activity, which were combined into a composite score.

Deep learning-based computer vision methods have recently made remarkable breakthroughs in the analysis and classification of cancer pathology images. However, there has been relatively little investigation of the utility of deep neural networks to synthesize medical images. In this study, we evaluated the efficacy of generative adversarial networks to synthesize high-resolution pathology images of 10 histological types of cancer, including five cancer types from The Cancer Genome Atlas and the five major histological subtypes of ovarian carcinoma.

The emergence of the covid-19 disease pandemic caused by the 2019 novel coronavirus has required a re-evaluation of treatment practices for clinicians caring for patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (cll). The American Society for Hematology (ash) has provided a series of recommendations for the treatment of patients with cll during the pandemic, covering a range of topics, including testing for covid-19, cll treatment initiation and selection, use of immunoglobulin therapy, in-person monitoring, and treatment of patients with cll and covid-19. We summarize the ash recommendations and discuss their applicability as guidelines for the treatment of cll during the covid-19 pandemic in Canada.

We sought to identify whether pretreatment inflammatory markers could prognosticate recurrence in patients with advanced (stage iii or iv) head-and-neck scc who underwent therapy with curative intent in a tertiary care centre between January 2010 and December 2012.
Methods: In a chart review, we recorded demographics; primary tumour characteristics; p16 status; pretreatment inflammatory markers, including body mass index (bmi), neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (nlr), C-reactive protein (crp), and serum albumin; therapy received; and date of relapse, death, or last follow-up.

The prevalence of subclavian artery (SA) stenosis is approximately 2%. The exact prevalence of extracranial vertebral artery (VA) stenosis is undetermined, with estimates ranging from 7% to 40%. Nearly 25% of ischaemic strokes involve the vertebrobasilar circulation, and arteriosclerotic disease and narrowing of the proximal VA may be the cause for up to one-fifth of these incidents.
