ILAE neonatal seizure framework to aide in determining etiology.

Objective: To employ the neonatal seizure framework developed by the International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE) Neonatal Task force to assess its usefulness in determining the etiology of neonatal seizures.

Methods: The members of the ILAE Neonatal Task Force evaluated 157 seizures from 146 neonates to determine internal validity and associations between semiology and a specific etiology.

Results: Provoked neonatal electrographic and electroclinical seizures were due to multiple etiologies.

Despite the significant impact of sleep problems, clinical evidence is lacking. The application of general pediatric sleep recommendations appears insufficient to address the unique challenges of the PPC dimension in terms of disease variability, duration, comorbidities, complexity of needs, and particular features of sleep problems related to hospice care.

It has been suggested that substance use disorders could lead to accelerated biological aging, but only a few neuroimaging studies have investigated this hypothesis so far. In this cross-sectional study, structural neuroimaging was performed to measure cortical thickness (CT) in tricenarian adults with cocaine use disorder (CUD, n  = 30) and their age-paired controls (YC, n  = 30), and compare it with octogenarian elder controls (EC, n  = 20). We found that CT in the right fusiform gyrus was similar between CUD and EC, thinner than the expected values of YC.

Objective: The International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE) Neonatal Seizure Framework was tested by medical personnel.

Methods: Attendees at the 2016 ILAE European Congress on Epileptology in Prague, the International Video-EEG Course in Pediatric Epilepsies in Madrid 2017, and a local meeting in Utrecht 2018, were introduced to the proposed ILAE neonatal classification system with teaching videos covering the seven types of clinical seizures in the proposed neonatal classification system. Five test digital video recordings of electroencephalography (EEG)-confirmed motor neonatal seizures were then shown and classified by the rater based on their knowledge of the proposed ILAE Neonatal Seizure Framework.

The behavioral variant of Frontotemporal dementia (bvFTD) has typically a progressive course with cognitive and behavioral changes that manifests between 50 and 70 years. Very early-onset bvFTD with rapid progression is a rare syndrome under the frontotemporal lobar degeneration (FTLD) umbrella that has been associated with a variety of protein deposition and genetic mutations. We present a case of a 24-year-old man who developed behavioral symptoms and progressed with severe cognitive impairment and functional loss within months.

We carried out an exploratory study aimed at identifying differences in resting-state functional connectivity for the amygdala and its subregions, right and left basolateral, centromedial and superficial nuclei, in patients with Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), relative to controls. The study included 10 participants with PTSD following trauma in adulthood (9 females), and 10 controls (9 females). The results suggest PTSD was associated with a decreased (negative) functional connectivity between the superficial amygdala and posterior brain regions relative to controls.

This study used data from 2,222 mothers and infants participating in a population-based birth cohort to verify whether maternal depression in the perinatal period was associated with poor infant sleep. Mothers who scored ≥13 points on the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale at 16-24 weeks of gestation and/or 3 months after delivery were considered perinatally depressed. The main outcome variable was poor infant sleep at 12 months of age, defined as >3 night wakings, nocturnal wakefulness >1 hr or total sleep duration <9 hr.

Background And Purpose: Hypoxia and cerebral ischemia (HI) events are capable of triggering important changes in brain metabolism, including glucose metabolism abnormalities, which may be related to the severity of the insult.
