There is much interest in whether the needs of ethnic minority patients are being met by palliative care services. Bradford has a population that includes people from several different ethnic minorities, the largest number of whom originate from Pakistan. In May 2000 a bilingual health-care worker (BHCW) was appointed to work with the local palliative care teams to improve service provision for patients from South Asia.

Hospital doctors and general practitioners should be aware of the core principles of rehabilitation, be able to recognise rehabilitation need in their patients, and have sufficient knowledge of their local rehabilitation services to trigger the referral process.

The results of long-term follow-up (range 9-19 years) are presented in a continuous series of patients treated for Dupuytren's contracture by one surgeon using the open palm technique. Mean preoperative total range of movement was 48% rising to 96% postoperatively. Mean total range of movement was 92% at follow-up.
