Department of Experimental Genomics, Institute of Genetics and Animal Biotechnology, Polish Academy of Sciences, Postępu 36A, 05-552 Garbatka, Poland.

Cancer metastases into the brain constitute one of the most severe, but not uncommon, manifestations of cancer progression. Several factors control how cancer cells interact with the brain to establish metastasis. These factors include mediators of signaling pathways participating in migration, infiltration of the blood-brain barrier, interaction with host cells (e.

Introduction: The aim of this study was to evaluate the risk of a positive margin in the intraoperative and final pathology depending on the risk group for biochemical recurrence in biopsy specimens after robot-assisted radical prostatectomy (RaRP) with sparing of the neurovascular bundles (NS).

Material And Methods: The study was prospective and non-randomised. The intraoperative and final pathology examinations were performed in 65 consecutive patients treated with RaRP between 11.

Introduction: In hydrocephalus treatment, ventriculo-peritoneal shunts (VPS) have become the most relevant therapy for seven decades among other treatment options. Due to the hydrostatic pressure in vertical position, CSF diversion is somehow non-physiological. The integration of gravitational valves in VPS was established to counteract the hydrostatic draining force and to approach a physiological condition of the cerebrospinal diverting system.

Prostatic carcinoma (PC) is the most frequent urologic cancer and one of the most frequent cancers in males; it is a heterogeneous disease, in terms of molecular features, morphology and prognosis. About half of cases depends on TMPRSS2-ETS translocation which leads to a production of ERG transcription factor. ERG+ and ERG- cancers seem to differ in a number of features, which could lead to an altered nuclear structure; the aim of the study was to test this hypothesis.

Objectives: The aim of the present study was to present a case series of 3 patients with longstanding, severe, debilitating dystonic head tremor (DT) coexistence with cervical dystonia (CD) treated successfully by bilateral deep brain stimulation (DBS). Pharmacological treatment including benzodiazepines and botulinum toxin injections employed to overactive muscles have failed to adequately control dystonic jerking movements of the head and neck.

Patients And Methods: All patients were diagnosed with DT who accompanied CD.

Background: We present our operative experience of patients with movement disorders who developed intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH), which was identified on intraprocedural stereotactic computed tomography (CT) imaging performed immediately after deep brain stimulation (DBS) lead placement and prior to the implantation of further components of the DBS hardware.

Methods: Patients who underwent DBS lead implantation from January 2009 through December 2017 were included in the present study. Most of the surgeries were performed in a staged fashion.

We still lack an optimal tool to predict ischaemic stroke in patients with symptomatic and asymptomatic carotid stenosis (CS). It has already been shown that patients at increased risk of ischaemic stroke can be identified based on the elevated plasma levels of metalloproteinases (MMPs) and reduced activity tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase (TIMP). There are few studies presenting the role of MMP-9 and TIMP in ischaemic stroke both in patients with symptomatic and asymptomatic CS treated with stenting or endarterectomy, however we have not found any published review summarizing the role of abovementioned markers.

Background: The aim of the present study was to report the short-term as well long-term results of bilateral pallidal stimulation in 6 consecutive patients for severe debilitating craniocervical dystonia (Meige syndrome) using Burke-Fahn-Marsden Dystonia Rating Scale (BFMDRS).

Methods: We evaluated 6 consecutive patients with the diagnosis of intractable long-standing craniocervical dystonia. The formal objective assessment included the motor and disability BFMDRS scores.

Introduction: Meige syndrome (MS) is characterized by blepharospasm, facial, oromandibular, and often cervical dystonia. The medical treatment of this condition is challenging and unsuccessful over long time. Recent case reports and small clinical series showed that bilateral deep brain stimulation (DBS) of globus pallidus pars interna (GPi) improves dystonic features of MS validated by Burke-Fahn-Marsden Dystonia Rating Scale (BFMDRS).
