Article Synopsis
  • This study looked at two blood tests, ProGRP and CEA, to see which one better helps doctors track the treatment of Small Cell Lung Cancer (SCLC).
  • Researchers analyzed data from 80 SCLC patients and found that both ProGRP and CEA levels were significantly higher in patients than in healthy people.
  • ProGRP was found to be a stronger indicator of how well patients respond to treatment and how their disease progresses compared to CEA, meaning ProGRP might be better for doctors to use in monitoring patient care.

Traditionally, fresh flowers (SJF) and flowers buds (SJFB) are dried prior to further processing and use. Here, we investigated the ways in which drying techniques, including sun drying (SD), steam drying (STD), microwave drying (MD), hot air drying (HAD, 40 °C, 60 °C, 80 °C, 100 °C), and freeze drying (FD), alter the flavonoid composition of freshly-harvested SJF and SJFB. The flavonoid content of dried samples was determined by Ultra High Performance Liquid Chromatography-Diode Array Detector (UPLC-DAD).

Background: Spinal cord stimulation (SCS) is a promising treatment for patients with disorders of consciousness (DoC); however, the laboratory examinations and different electrodes (permanent #39286 vs. temporary percutaneous #3777, Medtronic, USA) that are associated with postoperative outcomes are unclear. The study aims to study the association between the change in postoperative cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) protein level and improvement in consciousness after SCS in DoC patients and to explore whether different electrodes were associated with elevated CSF protein levels.

Background: Since the first description of paediatric intervertebral disc calcification (IDC) by Báron in 1924, only approximately 400 cases have been reported in the literature. Paediatric IDC combined with ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament (OPLL) is an even rarer condition, with only 8 cases described in detail to date. In this paper, we present a review of the disease characteristics described in the relevant English language literature and discuss the possible mechanisms of lesion enhancement in contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
