Background: The aim of this study was to estimate the prevalence of metabolic syndrome (MetS) and its components in a cohort of French patients with treatment-resistant depression (TRD) and to determine correlations with sociodemographic, clinical, and treatment-related factors.
Methods: From 2012 to 2018, 205 patients who met DSM-IV criteria for major depressive episode with moderate-to-severe symptoms (Montgomery-Asberg Depression Rating Scale score ≥ 20), and at least Stage II resistance according to Thase and Rush criteria were enrolled in the FondaMental Advanced Centers of Expertise in Resistant Depression (FACE-DR) cohort. Data on sociodemographic and clinical characteristics, lifestyle information, and treatment and comorbidities were collected, and a blood sample was drawn.

In the brain, acetylcholine (ACh) is regarded as one of the major neurotransmitters. During the advancement of Alzheimer's disease (AD) cholinergic deficits occur and this can lead to extensive cognitive dysfunction and decline. Acetylcholinesterase (AChE) remains a highly feasible target for the symptomatic improvement of AD.

Background: The aim of this study was to assess the anti-inflammatory effects of local cryotherapy in human non-septic knee arthritis.
Methods: In the phase I of the study, patients were randomized to receive either ice (30 min; N = 16) or cold CO (2 min; N = 16) applied twice during 1 day at an 8-h interval on the arthritic knee. In phase II, 16 other ice-treated arthritic knees according to the same protocol were compared to the contralateral non-treated arthritic knees (N = 16).

Management of organic biomedical waste is a global quandary, and it is becoming difficult to confront day by day. Conversion of organic biomedical waste into fertilizer is of great concern. In the present research, organic biomedical waste samples (blood swabs, dressing swabs, and used cotton) were collected then after cow dung was collected in sterile container and immediately transported to the laboratory and screened for any gastrointestinal infection by using routine microscopy for intestinal parasitic infection, routine bacterial culture, and fecal occult blood for any intestinal bleeding.

To investigate the influence of Moringa seed extract (MSE) on the cerebral Nrf2/NQO1 signaling in TiO-NPs-induced brain damage, 80 male albino rats were divided into four groups (n = 20); group I was used as a control, group II received TiO-NPs (500 mg/kg b.w/day orally) for 14 days, group III received MSE (100 mg/kg b.w/day orally) for 30 days, and group IV received MSE an hour before TiO-NPs administration with the same doses as before.

Cadmium (Cd) is a common environmental pollutant that threatens humans' and animals' health. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are widely used drugs due to their wide therapeutic action; however, they have significant side effects. Since, under many circumstances, humans and animals may be co-exposed to Cd and NSAIDs, the current investigation was assigned to explore the intertwining relationship between Cd and NSAIDs.

Neuropsychological rehabilitation is one of the subspecialties of neuropsychology, along with neuropsychological assessment, cognitive process descriptions, and anatomo-functional correlation, but it is still frequently underrecognized, even from a historical point of view. In this chronological review, we propose following some of the historical descriptions of cognitive recovery, and the suggested procedures and therapies to improve this recovery from mythological periods and the antiquity to recent contemporary periods and the birth of formal neuropsychological rehabilitation in neurological and psychiatric conditions.

We assessed the predictive value of new radiomic features characterizing lesion dissemination in baseline F-FDG PET and tested whether combining them with baseline metabolic tumor volume (MTV) could improve prediction of progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) in diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) patients. From the LNH073B trial (NCT00498043), patients with advanced-stage DLCBL and F-FDG PET/CT images available for review were selected. MTV and several radiomic features, including the distance between the 2 lesions that were farthest apart (Dmax), were calculated.

Microcystin- (MC-) LR is the most frequent cyanotoxin produced by cyanobacteria in the contaminated freshwater environment. MC represents a health hazard to humans and animals. Therefore, the present study was designed to evaluate the potential ameliorative effect of thymoquinone (TQ) and/or piperine (PP) against MC toxicity in mice.

In this paper, we further extend the recently proposed Poisson-Tweedie regression models to include a linear predictor for the dispersion as well as for the expectation of the count response variable. The family of the considered models is specified using only second-moments assumptions, where the variance of the count response has the form μ+ϕμp $\mu + \phi \mu^p$, where µ is the expectation, ϕ and p are the dispersion and power parameters, respectively. Parameter estimations are carried out using an estimating function approach obtained by combining the quasi-score and Pearson estimating functions.

Background And Objective: Omalizumab is a human anti-IgE antibody approved for the treatment of severe allergic asthma (SAA). However, its effectiveness in SAA associated with chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyposis (CRSNP+) is less well documented. Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the real-life effectiveness of omalizumab in patients with SAA and CRSNP+ who tolerated and did not tolerate aspirin.

Cisplatin (CDDP) may induce nephrotoxicity through oxidative stress, DNA damage, and inflammation. This study was performed to evaluate the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects of allicin and ascorbic acid (AA) and investigate the nephroprotective efficacy of their combination against CDDP-induced intoxication. Rats were divided into seven groups: control, allicin (10 mg/kg for 14 days), AA (20 mg/kg for 14 days), CDDP (7 mg/kg as a single dose on the seventh experimental day), CDDP-allicin, CDDP-AA, and CDDP-allicin-AA (at the aforementioned doses).

Gait disorders can be disabling in persons with multiple sclerosis (PMS). Different gait parameters have been used to evaluate gait disorders according to the International classification of functioning. Some authors have reported a direct relation between evaluations over short distances and long-term outcomes.

The current study was performed to investigate the nephroprotective efficacy of Spirulina platensis (SP) and the possible benefits of combining SP and ascorbic acid (AA) in protecting against amikacin (AMK)-induced nephrotoxicity in rabbits. Forty-two male New Zealand rabbits were allocated to seven equal groups, receiving (I) normal saline as negative controls, (II) oral SP (500 mg/kg body weight), (III) oral AA (20 mg/kg bw), (IV) intramuscular AMK injection (100 mg/kg bw), (V) AMK plus SP, (VI) AMK plus AA, or (VII) AMK plus SP and AA at the aforementioned doses. The treatments were given once/day for 7 days.

Norovirus infections are a major cause of acute viral gastroenteritis and a significant burden on global human health. A vital process for norovirus replication is the processing of the nonstructural polyprotein by a viral protease into the viral components required to form the viral replication complex. This cleavage occurs at different rates, resulting in the accumulation of stable precursor forms.

The ubiquitous use of diazinon (DZN, an organophosphorus insecticide) has increased the probability of occupational, public, and the ecosystem exposure; these exposures are linked to negative health outcomes. The flavonoids curcumin (CUR) and quercetin (QUE) exert significant anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activities against toxicants, including insecticides. However, it is unclear whether their combination enhances these activities.
