In the brain, acetylcholine (ACh) is regarded as one of the major neurotransmitters. During the advancement of Alzheimer's disease (AD) cholinergic deficits occur and this can lead to extensive cognitive dysfunction and decline. Acetylcholinesterase (AChE) remains a highly feasible target for the symptomatic improvement of AD.

Cadmium (Cd) is a common environmental pollutant that threatens humans' and animals' health. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are widely used drugs due to their wide therapeutic action; however, they have significant side effects. Since, under many circumstances, humans and animals may be co-exposed to Cd and NSAIDs, the current investigation was assigned to explore the intertwining relationship between Cd and NSAIDs.

Neuropsychological rehabilitation is one of the subspecialties of neuropsychology, along with neuropsychological assessment, cognitive process descriptions, and anatomo-functional correlation, but it is still frequently underrecognized, even from a historical point of view. In this chronological review, we propose following some of the historical descriptions of cognitive recovery, and the suggested procedures and therapies to improve this recovery from mythological periods and the antiquity to recent contemporary periods and the birth of formal neuropsychological rehabilitation in neurological and psychiatric conditions.

We assessed the predictive value of new radiomic features characterizing lesion dissemination in baseline F-FDG PET and tested whether combining them with baseline metabolic tumor volume (MTV) could improve prediction of progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) in diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) patients. From the LNH073B trial (NCT00498043), patients with advanced-stage DLCBL and F-FDG PET/CT images available for review were selected. MTV and several radiomic features, including the distance between the 2 lesions that were farthest apart (Dmax), were calculated.

In this paper, we further extend the recently proposed Poisson-Tweedie regression models to include a linear predictor for the dispersion as well as for the expectation of the count response variable. The family of the considered models is specified using only second-moments assumptions, where the variance of the count response has the form μ+ϕμp $\mu + \phi \mu^p$, where µ is the expectation, ϕ and p are the dispersion and power parameters, respectively. Parameter estimations are carried out using an estimating function approach obtained by combining the quasi-score and Pearson estimating functions.

Norovirus infections are a major cause of acute viral gastroenteritis and a significant burden on global human health. A vital process for norovirus replication is the processing of the nonstructural polyprotein by a viral protease into the viral components required to form the viral replication complex. This cleavage occurs at different rates, resulting in the accumulation of stable precursor forms.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates how body mass index (BMI) affects gait recovery and movement parameters in patients following total hip arthroplasty (THA) for hip osteoarthritis.
  • It compares two groups: non-obese (49 patients) and obese (37 patients) prior to and six months after THA, alongside a control group of 61 healthy individuals.
  • Results showed that while obese patients had lower preoperative gait speed and hip range of motion, both obese and non-obese patients experienced significant improvements post-surgery, with no direct correlation found between BMI and recovery outcomes.

The ubiquitous use of diazinon (DZN, an organophosphorus insecticide) has increased the probability of occupational, public, and the ecosystem exposure; these exposures are linked to negative health outcomes. The flavonoids curcumin (CUR) and quercetin (QUE) exert significant anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activities against toxicants, including insecticides. However, it is unclear whether their combination enhances these activities.
