Background: Altered structural brain development has been identified in fetuses with congenital heart disease (CHD), suggesting that the neurodevelopmental impairment observed later in life might originate in utero. There are many interacting factors that may perturb neurodevelopment during the fetal period and manifest as structural brain alterations, such as altered cerebral substrate delivery and aberrant fetal hemodynamics.
Methods And Results: We extracted structural covariance networks from the log Jacobian determinants of 435 in utero T2 weighted image magnetic resonance imaging scans, (n=67 controls, 368 with CHD) acquired during the third trimester.
Background: Lifelong continuity of care is essential for patients with congenital heart disease (CHD) to maximize health outcomes; unfortunately, gaps in care (GIC) are common. Trends in GIC and of social determinants of health factors contributing to GIC are poorly understood.

Macrophages maintain hematopoietic stem cell (HSC) quality by assessing cell surface Calreticulin (Calr), an "eat-me" signal induced by reactive oxygen species (ROS). Using zebrafish genetics, we identified Beta-2-microglobulin (B2m) as a crucial "don't eat-me" signal on blood stem cells. A chemical screen revealed inducers of surface Calr that promoted HSC proliferation without triggering ROS or macrophage clearance.

Small bowel into small bowel intussusception can present with symptoms similar to those observed in patients with more common small bowel into large bowel intussusception. In most cases, intussusceptions isolated to the small bowel are self-limited and less likely to result in bowel ischemia. Nonetheless, any patient with recurrent intussusception should be evaluated to assess location and for the presence of a pathologic lead point.

Drug-carrying nanoparticles are a promising strategy to deliver therapeutics into the brain, but their translation requires better characterization of interactions between nanomaterials and endothelial cells of the blood-brain barrier (BBB). Here, we use a library of 18 layer-by-layer electrostatically assembled nanoparticles (NPs) to independently assess the impact of NP core and surface materials on in vitro uptake, transport, and intracellular trafficking in brain endothelial cells. We demonstrate that NP core stiffness determines the magnitude of transport, while surface chemistry directs intracellular trafficking.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of anterolateral ligament reconstruction (ALLR) or lateral extra-articular tenodesis (LET) fixation at low versus high flexion angles during anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) on rotation or translational knee stability.
Methods: The inclusion criteria for this study were (1) cadaveric study, (2) cadaveric specimens underwent ACLR, (3) cadaveric specimen underwent ALLR or LET and (4) specimen preparation technique described the knee flexion angle at the time of ALLR or LET tensioning and fixation. A priori, 'low flexion' was defined as 0-30° and 'high flexion' was defined as 60-90° at graft fixation.

Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) is the most prevalent type of liver disease worldwide. The exact pathophysiology behind MASLD remains unclear; however, it is thought that a combination of factors or "hits" act as precipitants for disease onset and progression. Abundant evidence supports the roles of diet, genes, metabolic dysregulation, and the intestinal microbiome in influencing the accumulation of lipids in hepatocytes and subsequent progression to inflammation and fibrosis.

Objective: Studies evaluating genetic sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) in Hispanic and Latino populations using genomic technologies are lacking. Recent data has shown that Hispanic and Latino children display lower genetic diagnostic rates despite similar prevalence rates of SNHL to their Asian and White counterparts, thus negatively affecting their clinical care.
