Five years of emergency keratoplasty at a tertiary eye hospital.

Purpose: The aim of this study is to present the results of patients who underwent emergency keratoplasty for tectonic or therapeutic reasons.

Methods: Medical records of 33 patients who underwent tectonic or therapeutic keratoplasty at Ege University Department of Ophthalmology between January 2019 and January 2024 were retrospectively evaluated. Demographic characteristics, ocular and systemic findings, indications of keratoplasty, size of grafts, need for re-keratoplasty, preoperative treatment modalities, need for additional surgical interventions, and prognosis of the patients were investigated.

Attitudes toward partner violence in men: An evaluation in terms of narcissism and attachment style in Turkey.

Background: Intimate partner violence is quite common around the world.

Aim: This study aims to determine the attitudes toward partner violence in men and to evaluate their attitudes toward violence according to narcissistic characteristics and attachment styles.

Method: This study was conducted using descriptive cross-sectional methods.

Comparison of ultrasound findings of papillary thyroid carcinoma subtypes based on the 2022 WHO classification of thyroid neoplasms.

Purpose: The present study aimed to analyze and compare sonographic features of papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) subtypes to determine whether ultrasound (US) may aid in differentiating particular subtypes.

Methods: This retrospective study enrolled 133 patients diagnosed with 142 histopathologically proven PTCs as per the fifth edition of the World Health Organization classification of thyroid neoplasms between January 2013 and May 2023. US features based on the American College of Radiology and European Thyroid Imaging and Reporting Data Systems (TIRADS), and histopathological characteristics of nodules were assessed and compared.

Psychometric Properties of the Turkish Version of Self-Efficacy Measure for Sleep Apnea (SEMSA) Instrument.

Background: Determining the self-efficacy perceptions of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) patients has a key role in health care practices. With further evaluation, the Self-Efficacy Measure for Sleep Apnea (SEMSA) could serve as a useful scale to develop specific interventions to increase self-efficacy in patients with OSA during the acceptance and maintenance of continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy.

Objective: The aim of this study is to translate the SEMSA into Turkish and to evaluate the psychometric properties of the translation.

Effects of apelin on neonatal brain neurogenesis in L-NAME-induced maternal preeclampsia.

The aim of this study was to investigate the possible protective effects of apelin, which is known to have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects, on changes in neurogenesis in newborns of pregnant rats with L-NAME-induced preeclampsia. Wistar albino female rats were divided into four experimental groups: Control, Apelin, Preeclampsia and Preeclampsia + Apelin. Blood pressure was measured on the 5th, 11th and 17th days of gestation, urine protein was analyzed from urine samples collected for 24 h on the 6th, 12th and 18th days and serum creatinine was analyzed from serum samples.

Conjunctival Histopathological Changes and Clinical Tear Film in Children with Atopic Dermatitis.

Purpose: Evaluation of changes in the ocular surfaces in children with a diagnosis of atopic dermatitis (AD).

Methods: Thirty-six children with a diagnosis of AD (Eye-AD group) and 40 healthy subjects (Eye-HS group) were enrolled in this prospective case-control study. Tear film break-up time (T-BUT), Schirmer tear test (STT), conjunctival impression cytology (CIC), tear meniscus height (TMH), tear meniscus area (TMA), and ocular surface disease index (OSDI) were measured.

Importance of Source Control in the Subgroup of Intra-Abdominal Infections for Septic Shock Patients: Analysis of 390 Cases.

An Effective Novel Index for Predicting the Recurrence of Atrial Fibrillation Ablation: P Wave Duration-to-Amplitude Ratio.

The aim of this article is to illustrate the value of utilizing the Roy adaptation model in the care of a patients by reviewing nursing care provided to a patient diagnosed with COVID-19.

Invasive Heart Rate Control as a Salvage Therapy in Amiodarone-induced Thyroid Storm.

Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common arrhythmia, and amiodarone is one of the most commonly used drugs for medical cardioversion of AF, which should be used carefully due to its toxic effects. Amiodarone-induced thyrotoxicosis (AIT) may develop in amiodarone-treated patients. In contrast, the most common rhythm disturbance accompanying a thyroid storm is AF.

Psychological Distress in Patients with COVID-19 During Hospitalization.

To determine the changes in psychological distress levels of patients hospitalized with the diagnosis of COVID-19 and the characteristics of patients at risk. This longitudinal study included 76 patients. The psychological distress was evaluated using the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale thrice (on the 1st day of hospitalization and isolation (0), sixth day (1), and when the discharge decision was made).

Needs of family members of patients admitted to a university hospital critical care unit, Izmir Turkey: comparison of nurse and family perceptions.

Purpose: This study aims to compare the perceptions of nurses and families on the needs of the relatives of the patients in Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted in the ICU of a university hospital. The study comprised 213 critical care patients' relatives and 54 nurses working in the same ICU.

Transoral endoscopic parathyroidectomy vestibular approach (TOEPVA) for primary hyperparathyroidism: Turkey's experience.

Aim: Parathyroid surgery has witnessed a significant evolution with the introduction of more efficacious preoperative localization imaging techniques and the use of rapid intraoperative parathormone assays. Parathyroid surgery can now be performed with the minimum of invasion. Through the adaptation of the transoral endoscopic thyroidectomy vestibular approach (TOETVA), the technique has now been adopted for parathyroid surgery, known as the transoral endoscopic parathyroidectomy vestibular approach (TOEPVA).

Visual clarity of irrigants used during flexible ureterorenoscopy: an in vitro comparison.

Introduction: Saline solution is the standard irrigant used during ureteroscopy. However, there is an opinion that water has better visual clarity. We aimed to compare the visual clarities of saline, water, and 5% mannitol as an irrigant during ureteroscopy.

The effects of tropicamide and cyclopentolate hydrochloride on laser flare meter measurements in uveitis patients: a comparative study.

Purpose: To investigate the effects of 1% cyclopentolate hydrochloride and 1% tropicamide eye drops on aqueous flare measurements by using the laser flare meter.

Methods: One hundred forty eight eyes of 83 patients with inactive uveitis were enrolled. The patients were randomly assigned to receive either 1% tropicamide (Group 1) or 1% cyclopentolate hydrochloride (Group 2) as the mydriatic agent.
