Semiquantitative single-photon-emission computed tomography /computed tomography study to evaluate concomitant ulnar impaction syndrome in patients presenting with triangular fibrocartilage complex tears.

Introduction: Patients presenting with tears of the triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC) can have ulnar positive variance, for which the clinical relevance to concomitant ulnar impaction syndrome (UIS) may be unclear. We hypothesized that maximum standardized uptake value (SUVmax), a semiquantitative single-photon-emission computed tomography/computed tomography (SPECT/CT) value, would distinguish between the traumatic TFCC tear and degenerative TFCC tear associated with the UIS. This study aimed to compare SUVmax between patients with TFCC tear only and patients with TFCC tear and UIS.

Posterior-only versus combined anterior-posterior fusion in Scheuermann disease: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Objective: Combined anterior-posterior (AP) surgery is considered the gold standard for surgical treatment of Scheuermann kyphosis. There are trends toward posterior-only (PO) surgery for correcting this deformity because of the availability of multisegmental compression instruments and posterior shortening osteotomy. To date, surgical strategies for Scheuermann kyphosis remain controversial.

Arthroscopy versus nonoperative treatment of symptomatic femoroacetabular impingement syndrome: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Background: Presently, hip arthroscopy is a widely adopted surgical intervention for the treatment of femoroacetabular impingement (FAI). However, there is insufficient evidence regarding which between arthroscopy and nonoperative treatment is more optimal for symptomatic FAI.

Methods: MEDLINE, Embase, Web of Science, and the Cochrane Library were systematically searched for studies that compared arthroscopy and nonoperative interventions for FAI treatment from inception to August 4, 2020.

Clinical Characteristics of High-Grade Glioma with Primary Leptomeningeal Seeding at Initial Diagnosis in a Single Center Study.

Background: High-grade glioma (HGG) with primary leptomeningeal seeding (PLS) at initial diagnosis is rare. The purpose of this study was to identify its clinical features and to describe the clinical treatment outcomes.

Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of patients with HGG (World Health Organization grade III or IV) at our institution between 2004 and 2019, and patients with PLS at the initial diagnosis were enrolled in the study.

This disaster is also causing serious health problems in the area of cardiovascular intervention.

Chondrosarcomas, malignant cartilaginous neoplasms, are capable of transitioning to highly aggressive, metastatic, and treatment-refractory states, resulting in significant patient mortality. Here, we aim to uncover the transcriptional program directing such tumor progression in chondrosarcomas. We conduct weighted correlation network analysis to extract a characteristic gene module underlying chondrosarcoma malignancy.

Trimetazidine Use and the Risk of Parkinsonism: A Nationwide Population-Based Study.

An association between trimetazidine (TMZ), an anti-anginal drug, and parkinsonism has been reported in a number of studies. However, evidence from studies with long-term follow-up and better validity is lacking. We investigated the risk of TMZ-associated parkinsonism, specifically the incidence rate, cumulative dose-response relationship, and combined effects with other parkinsonism-inducing medications.

Short course of voriconazole therapy as a risk factor for relapse of invasive pulmonary aspergillosis.

To investigate associations of the duration of voriconazole treatment and radiological response with relapse of invasive pulmonary aspergillosis (IPA) in immunocompromised patients, we explored the risk factors for IPA relapse after successful initial treatment. All patients with proven or probable IPA who had finished voriconazole treatment between 2005 and 2019 in a tertiary-care hospital were reviewed. IPA relapse was defined as re-diagnosis of proven or probable IPA at the same site within 1 year after treatment termination.

Histone Deacetylase 1 and Sirtuin 1 Expression in Psoriatic Skin: A Comparison between Guttate and Plaque Psoriasis.

Abnormal histone modification by histone deacetylases (HDACs), including HDAC1 and sirtuin 1 (SIRT1), has been reported to play an important role in the pathogenesis of psoriasis by altering cell proliferation, differentiation, and inflammation. However, findings on the expression level of HDACs in psoriatic skin lack consistency. We assessed the expression of HDAC1, SIRT1, p63, and proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) in skin tissues from 23 patients with psoriasis (15 with plaque psoriasis and eight with guttate psoriasis) and five healthy individuals using immunohistochemistry, and analyzed their associations with clinical phenotypes of the disease.

Introduction: Coronary CT angiography (CCTA) is widely used for non-invasive coronary artery evaluation, but it is limited in identifying the nature of functional characteristics that cause ischaemia. Recent computational fluid dynamic (CFD) techniques applied to CCTA images permit non-invasive computation of fractional flow reserve (FFR), a measure of lesion-specific ischaemia. However, this technology has limitations, such as long computational time and the need for expensive equipment, which hinder widespread use.

Background: Several studies comparing internal and external stents have been conducted with the aim of reducing pancreatic fistula after PD. There is still no consensus, however, on the appropriate use of pancreatic stents for prevention of pancreatic fistula. This multicenter large cohort study aims to evaluate whether internal or external pancreatic stents are more effective in reduction of clinically relevant pancreatic fistula after pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD).

Necrotizing sialometaplasia: a malignant masquerade but questionable precancerous lesion, report of four cases.

Background: Necrotizing sialometaplasia (NSM) is an extremely rare benign lesion with an uncertain pathogenesis. The differential diagnosis of this lesion is challenging due to little familiarity with this entity and histologic similarity with carcinomas, especially mucoepidermoid carcinoma (MEC). The purpose of this study is to raise awareness about NSM, which is often overlooked or misdiagnosed as malignancy in a small biopsy.

Risk factors and renal outcomes of low bone mineral density in patients with non-dialysis chronic kidney disease.

Unlabelled: Bone disorder is a common complication of chronic kidney disease (CKD). The clinical usefulness of bone mineral density (BMD) in CKD is not well known. Our study shows that low BMD is associated with physical activity and dietary Na/K intake ratio and can predict poor renal outcome in non-dialysis CKD.

Government healthcare expenditure is rising in Korea, and the costs incurred by patients in Korea exceed those incurred by patients in other Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development countries. Despite the increasing health expenditure, patient demand for services is increasing as well, so it is now becoming recognized that cancer care needs to be balanced. The most important measure in cancer care optimization is to provide high-quality care while keeping costs sustainable.

Management and outcomes of Burkholderia cepacia complex bacteremia in patients without cystic fibrosis: a retrospective observational study.

Burkholderia cepacia complex (BCC) is an emerging pathogen of nosocomial infection in chronic or critically ill patients without cystic fibrosis (CF). The objective was to evaluate the management and outcomes of BCC bacteremia in patients without CF. We conducted a retrospective study of non-CF adult patients with BCC bacteremia between January 1997 and December 2016 at 4 tertiary hospitals in South Korea.

Covalently Grafted 2-Methacryloyloxyethyl Phosphorylcholine Networks Inhibit Fibrous Capsule Formation around Silicone Breast Implants in a Porcine Model.

The surface of human silicone breast implants is covalently grafted at a high density with a 2-methacryloyloxyethyl phosphorylcholine (MPC)-based polymer. Addition of cross-linkers is essential for enhancing the density and mechanical durability of the MPC graft. The MPC graft strongly inhibits not only adsorption but also the conformational deformation of fibrinogen, resulting in the exposure of a buried amino acid sequence, γ377-395, which is recognized by inflammatory cells.

Prognostic perspectives of PD-L1 combined with tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes, Epstein-Barr virus, and microsatellite instability in gastric carcinomas.

Background: The prognostic potential of PD-L1 is currently unclear in gastric carcinomas, although the immune checkpoint PD-1/PD-L1 inhibitors have produced promising results in clinical trials.

Methods: We explored the prognostic implications of programmed death ligand 1 (PD-L1) in 514 consecutive surgically-resected gastric carcinomas. Overall survival and recurrence-free survival were evaluated.

Effect of Probucol and/or Cilostazol on Carotid Intima Media Thickness in Patients with Coronary Heart Disease: A Randomized, Multicenter, Multinational Study.

Aim: In a prospective randomized multinational open blinded endpoint study, the long-term effects of probucol or probucol and cilostazol with statin on carotid mean intima media thickness (IMT) were evaluated for the first time.

Methods: Hypercholesterolemic patients with coronary artery disease were randomized to three groups and received study drugs for 3 years: the control with statin alone; the probucol group with statin and probucol; and the combo group with statin, probucol, and cilostazol. Primary efficacy endpoint was changes of mean carotid IMT at 3 years.

For the diagnosis of mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and Alzheimer disease (AD), variable neuroimaging and neuropsychological tests have been used. We aimed to evaluate the correlation of neuropsychological domain with new amyloid positron emission tomography (PET) study and to validate the availability of new PET tracer.We enrolled 20 patients who underwent C-PiB-PET/CT, new PET tracer F-FC119S PET/CT from November, 2014 to July, 2015.
