Background: Although preventing triceps fragment displacement is essential for treating an olecranon fracture, we frequently encounter situations in which only a few screws can be fixed to the triceps fragment. The aim of this study was to compare the stability of double-plate fixation and posterior plate fixation for olecranon fractures when the triceps fragment was small and only 2 screws could be inserted.

Methods: A composite ulna model was used to simulate olecranon fracture.

Background And Aim: Tumor stroma and tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) are major constituents of the tumor microenvironment, although they have different effects on the prognosis of patients with colorectal cancer (CRC). Combinatory statuses of tumor-stromal percentage (TSP) and TILs are expected to provide more powerful prognostic information but have never been studied in CRCs.

Methods: Stage III CRCs from patients (n = 487) treated with adjuvant chemotherapy were assessed for their TSP and CD3-TIL or CD8-TIL densities using computer-aided methodology.

Objective: We sought to identify plasma biomarkers associated with spontaneous preterm birth (SPTB, delivery within 21 days of sampling) in women with preterm labor (PTL) without intra-amniotic infection/inflammation (IAI) using label-free quantitative proteomic analysis, as well as to elucidate specific protein pathways involved in these cases.

Methods: This was a retrospective cohort study comprising 104 singleton pregnant women with PTL (24-32 weeks) who underwent amniocentesis and demonstrated no evidence of IAI. Analysis of pooled plasma samples collected from SPTB cases and term birth (TB) controls (n = 10 for each group) was performed using label-free quantitative mass spectrometry for proteome profiling in a nested case-control study design.

Although symptomatic treatment is the most preferred treatment strategy for proven symptomatic patent ductus arteriosus (PDA), a considerable number of infants only received conservative treatment without any pharmacological or surgical interventions in the lower gestational age and lower birth weight group in Korea. We compared in-hospital outcomes of infants treated conservatively without any intervention and those of infants managed by other therapeutic strategies in extremely preterm infants with symptomatic PDA. A prospectively collected cohort study for 2,303 infants with gestational ages <28 weeks from the Korean Neonatal Network database.

Department of Medical Life Sciences, Department of Biomedicine & Health Sciences, College of Medicine, The Catholic University of Korea, Seoul 06591, Korea.

Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is associated with several tumors and generates BamHI A rightward transcript (BART) microRNAs (miRNAs) from BART transcript introns. These BART miRNAs are expressed at higher levels in EBV-associated epithelial malignancies than in EBV-infected B lymphomas. To test the effects of EBV miRNA on the cell cycle and cell growth, we transfected miR-BART1-3p, a highly expressed EBV-associated miRNA, into gastric carcinoma cells.

Several studies have reported that the prognostic effect of KRAS mutations on colorectal cancers (CRCs) varies depending on the type of mutation. Considering the effect of KRAS mutations on tumor microenvironment, we analyzed the prognostic significance of KRAS mutation types after adjusting for the tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TIL) and tumor-stromal percentage (TSP) statuses. In two independent cohorts, KRAS mutations were analyzed by Sanger sequencing and/or next-generation sequencing.
