This research was conducted descriptively to determine the symptom intensities, performance and hopelessness levels of advanced lung cancer patients for the palliative care approach. The research sample consisted of 130 patients with advanced lung cancer, who were selected from 600 lung cancer populations in thoracic surgery and intensive care, outpatient chemotherapy, oncology in a university hospital in Turkey. Ethics Committee permission and the patients' written consent was obtained.

The Investigation of 14 Appendiceal Mucocele Cases Encountered in 4850 Appendectomy Patients.

Background: Appendiceal mucocele is a rarely seen disease which occurs when the appendix lumen is filled and obstructed by mucous. In our study, we aimed to reveal the surgical approach of our clinic, features of tumors, and clinical presentations in line with literature in cases of appendix mucocele.

Methods: Fourteen appendix mucocele patients who were admitted in our hospital between 2012 and 2019 were examined retrospectively in the electronic recording medium.

In this study, we aimed to define the clinico-radiological data and treatment options for intratesticular epidermoid cysts (IEC). MATERIALS AND METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of the patients that under went surgery for testicular mass between 1995 and 2017. Data of the patients whose histopathological evaluation revealed IEC were recorded.

Prostate shape significantly affects the HoLEP procedure time and energy usage: A retrospective pilot study.

In this study we evaluate the influence of longitudinal and transverse length of prostate size measured on the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan on the overall outcomes of HoLEP. The patients were divided into two groups based on the shape of the prostate. Group 1 had a longitudinal shape with a longitudinal diameter greater than the transverse diameter, whereas group 2 had an oval shape with a transverse diameter greater than the longitudinal diameter.

Comparison of Unilateral Fasciocutaneous V-Y Flap Technique with Cleft Lift Procedure in the Treatment of Recurrent Pilonidal Sinus Disease: A Retrospective Clinical Study.

BACKGROUND This study aimed to assess treatment outcomes of the cleft lift procedure and V-Y flap technique in the treatment of recurrent pilonidal sinus disease (PSD). MATERIAL AND METHODS A total of 51 patients who underwent cleft lift procedure and 43 patients who underwent fasciocutaneous V-Y flap technique were evaluated. The demographic characteristics, previous operations, duration of symptoms, perioperative complications, duration of operation and hospital stay, duration of draining of all patients, and recurrence of PSD were recorded.

Comparison of 3 Different Teaching Methods for a Behavioral Therapy Program for Female Overactive Bladder: A Randomized Controlled Trial.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare the effect of 3 instructional methods for behavioral therapy on lower urinary tract symptom (LUTS) severity and health-related quality of life (HRQOL) in women with overactive bladder.

Design: Single-center, parallel-group, randomized, clinical trial.

Objectives: In this study, we aimed to evaluate the effect of the Ischemic preconditioning (IPreC) on the expression profile of cerebral miRNAs against stroke by induced transient middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAo) in diabetic rats.

Methods: Eighty male Spraque Dawley rats were allocated to eight groups. In order to evaluate the expression profile of miRNAs, we induced transient MCAo seven days after STZ-induced diabetes (DM).

The Relationship of Hematoma Growth to Red Blood Cell Distribution Width in Patients with Hypertensive Intracerebral Hemorrhage.

Aim: Hypertension is a primary risk factor for intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) and is thought to be responsible for about 55% of all ICH cases. Thus, the primary goal of the study was to examine whether the status of vascular rheological factors upon admission to the hospital was associated with hypertensive ICH growth and early outcomes.

Material And Methods: Over a 2-year period, the present study evaluated 60 ICH patients who were admitted within the first 12 hours of symptom onset.

Aim: Current stroke therapies include lipid-lowering drugs, which reduce inflammation and serve to stabilize the atherosclerotic plaque to demonstrate better outcome and neuroprotection. Peroxisome proliferator activated receptors (PPAR) ? regulates lipid homeostasis and is a target of fibrates, which have a neuroprotective function by various mechanisms. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the role of the PPAR? agonist, fenofibrate, in the modulation of cleaved caspase-3 immunoreactivity and at the final infarct volume in an experimental ischemia/reperfusion rat model by induced transient proximal middle cerebral artery occlusion.

The relationship of platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio with clinical outcome and final infarct core in acute ischemic stroke patients who have undergone endovascular therapy.

Objectives: Of all strokes, 85% are ischemic and intracranial artery occlusion accounts for 80% of these ischemic strokes. Endovascular therapy for acute ischemic stroke was a new modality aiming at resolution of clots in occluded cerebral arteries. The platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) was introduced as a potential marker to determine increased inflammation, which is a result of releasing many mediators from the platelets.

Association of platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio with silent brain infarcts in patients with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation.

Objectives: In this study, we aimed to evaluate whether the inflammation as measured by increased platelet to lymphocyte ratio (PLR) predispose to silent infarcts in patients with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (PAF).

Methods: The present study investigated a total of 48 new diagnosed patients with PAF who had no signs of stroke. PLR, which was calculated as the ratio of the platelet count to the lymphocyte count, C-reactive protein and erythrocyte sedimentation rate were measured due to evaluate inflammatory state.

Introduction: Ischemic preconditioning (IPreC) can render the brain more tolerant to a subsequent potential lethal ischemic injury. Hyperglycemia has been shown to increase the size of ischemic stroke and worsen the clinical outcome following a stroke, thus exacerbating oxidative stress. Adropin has a significant association with cardiovascular disease, especially with diabetes.

The evaluation of vitamin D levels in patients with carpal tunnel syndrome.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) levels and carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS). 25(OH)D levels were checked in 108 consecutive patients with CTS symptoms and 52 healthy controls. All patients underwent nerve conduction studies and completed Boston Carpal Tunnel Questionnaire (BQ) symptom severity and functional status scales to quantify symptom severity, pain status and functional status.

Clinical significance of serum and urinary HER2/neu protein levels in primary non-muscle invasive bladder cancer.

Objective: We aimed to compare serum and urinary HER2/neu levels between healthy control group and patients with non-muscle invasive bladder cancer. Additionally, we evaluated relationship of HER2/neu levels with tumor stage, grade, recurrence and progression.

Materials And Methods: Fourty-four patients with primary non-muscle invasive bladder tumors (Group 2) and 40 healthy control group (Group 1) were included the study.

Background: Spinal cord injury is nowadays still a challenging disease, and a treatment option aimed at the primary site of injury does not currently exist. Therefore, the management of acute spinal cord injury has recently focused on the reasons behind the aggravation of the initial insult through secondary mechanisms, and the search for pharmacological treatment protocols is generally aimed at reducing and minimizing the neural injury and neurological sequela. The secondary spinal cord injury usually develops following a primary lesion induced by spinal cord contusion and the emergence of apoptotic cells has been found to play an important role in the development of secondary injury.

Rocuronium: automatic infusion versus manual administration with TOF monitorisation.

TOF (train-of-four) monitoring provides objective data in application of neuromuscular blocking agent. Thus, applicator-based differences are eliminated and optimum muscle relaxation is maintained during operation. In the present study, we aimed to compare the effects of target-controlled infusion system and standard TOF monitoring, on use of rocuronium.

Aim: To analyze the surgical results of a slipped medial rectus muscle (MRM) after hang back recession surgery for esotropia.

Methods: Twenty-one patients who underwent re-exploration for diagnosed slipped muscle after hang back recession surgery were included in this retrospective study. Dynamic magnetic resonance imaging was performed to identify the location of the slipped muscle.

Asymptomatic far-migration of an intrauterine device into the abdominal cavity: A rare entity.

Uterine perforation is a serious problem which can happen after intrauterine device (IUD) insertion. Migration of the IUD to the pelvic and abdominal cavity or adjacent organs may be seen following perforation of the uterus. Migration of an IUD to a far intra-abdominal site is extremely rare.

Near infrared spectroscopy to diagnose experimental testicular torsion: comparison with Doppler ultrasound and immunohistochemical correlation of tissue oxygenation and viability.

Purpose: Near infrared spectroscopy measures tissue oxygenation even when there is complete cessation of blood flow. We evaluated near infrared spectroscopy to diagnose testicular torsion and blindly compared its accuracy with that of Doppler ultrasound. We also compared it by immunohistochemical evaluation of hypoxia and cell viability.
