Preeclampsia (PE) is a leading cause of maternal and fetal mortality and morbidity. While placental dysfunction is a core underlying issue, the pathogenesis of this disorder is thought to differ between early-onset (EOPE) and late-onset (LOPE) subtypes. As recent reports suggest that small extracellular vesicles (sEVs) contribute to the development of PE, we have compared systemic sEV concentrations between normotensive, EOPE, and LOPE pregnancies.

To evaluate the anatomic and visual outcomes of primary vitrectomy for rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD) repair using no amount of postoperative prone positioning to clarify the role of face-down posturing for RRD reattachment. Boundary conditions (BCs) is one pivotal factor influencing the accuracy of hemodynamic predictions on intracranial aneurysms (IAs) using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modeling. Unfortunately, a standard procedure to secure accurate BCs for hemodynamic modeling does not exist. To bridge such a knowledge gap, two representative patient-specific IA models (Case-I and Case-II) were reconstructed and their blood flow velocity waveforms in the internal carotid artery (ICA) were measured by ultrasonic techniques and modeled by discrete Fourier transform (DFT).

The QT interval, an electrocardiographic temporal representation of the ventricular depolarization and repolarization, is an integral parameter that must be carefully evaluated to gather critical information regarding electrical instability that may cause malignant ventricular dysrhythmias or sudden cardiac death. The QT interval is affected by several inheritable and acquired factors, such as genetic mutations, electrolyte disturbances, and medication interactions. We strongly believe that prompt and accurate recognition of any QT interval abnormalities is critical in many clinical settings.

Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) with metastasis to the thyroid gland is exceedingly rare, with limited documentation within the literature. Between 1984 and 2023, only 40 cases of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) with thyroid gland metastasis were described in published literature. Herein, we present a distinctive case of second primary oropharyngeal SCC with metastasis to the thyroid, detected during surveillance positron emission tomography (PET) scanning subsequent to negative margin resection and radiation therapy for SCC originating from the hard palate.

Introduction: Neighborhood socioeconomic status (NSES) has been linked with overall health, and this study will evaluate whether NSES is cross-sectionally associated with cognition in non-Hispanic whites (NHWs) and Mexican Americans (MAs) from the Health and Aging Brain: Health Disparities Study (HABS-HD).

Methods: The HABS-HD is a longitudinal study conducted at the University of North Texas Health Science Center. The final sample analyzed (n = 1,312) were 50 years or older, with unimpaired cognition, and underwent an interview, neuropsychological examination, imaging, and blood draw.
