Objectives: This study aimed to examine the impact of the strength and color change of composite materials that could be utilized in the repair of polyetheretherketone (PEEK) veneer fractures.

Methods: The 220 nanoceramic-filled PEEK specimens used in the study were divided into four groups, and color measurements were made on a gray background (n=55): Group N, 1-mm-thick monochromatic composite; Group NN, 2-mm-thick monochromatic composite; Group F, 1-mm-thick 2-mm-diameter short fiber-reinforced composite, placed in the center and polymerized; and Group FF, 2-mm-thick 2-mm-diameter short fiber-reinforced composite, placed in the center and polymerized. The remaining mating surfaces were restored by filling with monochromatic composite and adhesion strength testing by re-measuring the color.

Cutan Ocul Toxicol

December 2024

Department of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery, Faculty of Medicine, Altinbas University, Istanbul, Turkey.

Purpose: Photoaging is characterised by cutaneous changes caused by exposure to ultraviolet light over time. Quercetin is a bioflavanoid with antioxidant, antineoplastic, and anti-inflammatory effects. This study investigated the therapeutic effects of topical quercetin on photoaging, a phenomenon not previously studied in ultraviolet A (UVA)-induced photoaging.

Psoriasis is a common systemic inflammatory disease and the literature has reported varying results regarding the renal involvement of psoriasis. Although many studies have investigated the presence of chronic renal damage in patients with psoriasis, there are few studies demonstrating subclinical renal damage. The aim of this study was to prospectively evaluate the presence of clinical and subclinical renal damage in patients with psoriasis vulgaris (PV).

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the relationship between peri-implant conditions (like peri-implantitis and peri-implant mucositis) and periodontal diseases, showing that they share similar risk factors and treatments.
  • Researchers assessed 123 dental implants and found that those with peri-implantitis often had gingivitis, while those with peri-implant health exhibited periodontal health.
  • Results indicate significant differences in clinical assessments (e.g., plaque indices and probing depth) between the peri-implant and periodontal groups, highlighting the need for better understanding and management of these conditions.*

Objective: Despite the high sensitivity and specificity of ventilation/perfusion (VQ) scintigraphy in the diagnosis of chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH) and chronic thromboembolic disease (CTED), V/Q scintigraphy cannot distinguish whether the thrombus is acute or chronic. In our study, we aimed to compare pulmonary computed tomography angiography (CTA) findings with V/Q scintigraphy findings in CTEPH and CTED patients and to identify findings that would indicate chronic thrombus.

Subjects And Methods: Eighteen patients diagnosed with CTEPH and CTED at our institution were included in the study between January 2020 and January 2024.

  • This study examined how taking breaks from the ADHD medication methylphenidate (MPH) during summer vacations affects ADHD symptoms and emotion regulation (ER) in children.
  • Fifty-six children participated, with evaluations happening before treatment, after treatment, and after the drug holidays. Out of those, 39 had complete data for analysis.
  • Results showed that while MPH treatment significantly reduced irritability and improved emotion recognition skills, these positive effects diminished after drug holidays, indicating the medication's benefits may be temporary.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigates how collateral vessels, which develop from arterioles due to arterial issues, may provide a natural bypass to improve walking performance in patients with peripheral arterial disease after treatments like balloon angioplasty.
  • - It analyzed medical data from 824 patients undergoing endovascular treatments for femoropopliteal chronic total occlusion, ultimately focusing on 410 limbs and looking at the relationship between collateral vessels and vessel dissection severity.
  • - Results indicate that severe dissections were more common with specific lesion types, longer occlusions, and certain characteristics of collateral vessels, suggesting that these factors could help predict complications following treatment.

Aim: A comparison between mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) apexification and regenerative endodontic therapy (RET) in immature permanent teeth is pivotal for optimising treatment outcomes and enhancing clinical decision-making. Understanding the efficacy, limitations and long-term implications of each approach is essential for achieving predictable, successful outcomes when managing immature teeth with necrotic pulps. The aim of this retrospective study was to compare the changes in the periapical bone using fractal dimension (FD) on the periapical radiographs of patients who underwent apexification and RET.

A new 1,3,4-oxadiazole derivative (MeO-SODA) was synthesized, fully characterized by means of IR, NMR and HRMS data and and additionally, its ability to detect extremely acidic pH values was examined. Firstly, the characteristic behavior of MeO-SODA was examined in ten different solvents, revealing that it underwent non-radiative transitions as the hydrogen bonding capacity of solvent increased. Secondly, the absorption and fluorescence measurements for MeO-SODA were conducted across various pH levels (pH 2, 4, 6, 7, 9, 10, 12), with fluorescence emission observed exclusively at pH 2.
