Purpose: To elucidate the mechanical properties of the bovine lens cortical membrane (CM), the nuclear membrane (NM) containing cholesterol bilayer domains (CBDs), and whole bovine lenses.

Methods: The total lipids (lipids plus cholesterol) from the cortex and nucleus of a single bovine lens were isolated using the monophasic methanol extraction method. Supported CMs and NMs were prepared from total lipids extracted from the cortex and nucleus, respectively, using a rapid solvent exchange method and probe-tip sonication, followed by the fusion of unilamellar vesicles on a flat, freshly cleaved mica surface.

Background: Rural School Support Strategies (RS3) is a bundle of implementation supports (including training, technical assistance, and a virtual learning collaborative) designed for the scale-up of universal prevention initiatives. This study addresses mechanisms of action, exploring whether positive effects of RS3 on implementation fidelity are attributable to improvements in functioning of school implementation teams, and increases in organizational readiness.

Systemic mitochondrial dysfunction, dopamine loss, sustained structural changes in the basal ganglia including reduced tyrosine hydroxylase, and altered gait- these effects observed in space-flown animals and astronauts mirrors Parkinson's disease (PD). Evidence of mitochondrial changes in space-flown human cells, examined through the lens of PD, suggests that spaceflight-induced PD-like molecular changes are important to monitor during deep space exploration. These changes, may potentially elevate the risk of PD in astronauts.

Ice-nucleating proteins (INPs) from bacteria like are among the most effective ice nucleators known. However, large INP aggregates with maximum ice nucleation activity (at approximately -2 °C) typically account for less than 1% of the overall ice nucleation activity in bacterial samples. This study demonstrates that polyols significantly enhance the assembly of INPs into large aggregates, dramatically improving bacterial ice nucleation efficiency.

While these goals are primarily achieved using or strategies, harnessing cell mechanosensitivity represents a promising - albeit less studied - pathway to promote bioprocessing endpoints, yet identifying which mechanical parameters influence cell activities has remained elusive.

In single-cell sequencing analysis, several computational methods have been developed to map the cellular state space, but little has been done to map or create embeddings of the gene space. Here we formulate the gene embedding problem, design tasks with simulated single-cell data to evaluate representations, and establish ten relevant baselines. We then present a graph signal processing approach, called gene signal pattern analysis (GSPA), that learns rich gene representations from single-cell data using a dictionary of diffusion wavelets on the cell-cell graph.

Nanomedicines offer high promise for the treatment of various diseases, and numerous novel approaches using nanomaterials have been developed over the years. In this report, we introduce a new strategy utilizing ZnO nanoparticles (nZnO) to trigger the rapid release of lipid-encapsulated therapeutics upon photo-irradiation with UV light (365 nm). studies demonstrate that encapsulation of nZnO effectively eliminates the cytotoxicity of nZnO, but this can be re-established upon release from the lipid coating.

In this case, we present the results of the chemical study of pipe residues found in the context of an archaeological mission (AROMA mission: Archaeology of the Exercise of Royal and Magico-Religious Power) in the royal palaces of Abomey (Benin), dating from the 17th-19th century.
