This study aimed to explore the potency of Gonggong sea snail's (GSS) extract as an antimicrobial peptide (AMP) source. The results showed that the GSS meat extracts exhibited potential antimicrobial activity against and . A peptide band with a molecular weight < 5 kDa was obtained for the characterization of AMP candidates after separating the selected extract using SDS-PAGE, and the sequences were acquired by LC-ESI-MS analysis.

Asia is responsible for ~60% of global egg production. As in most of the world, nearly all of the egg-laying hens are housed in cages. While there is growing demand for cage-free eggs in many regions of the world, challenges have been reported when transitioning to these systems, which may affect the willingness of producers to transition.

Successful detection of the first SARS-CoV-2 cases using the real-time polymerase chain reaction (real-time PCR) method reflects the power and usefulness of this technique. Real-time PCR is a variation of the PCR assay to allow monitoring of the PCR progress in actual time. PCR itself is a molecular process used to enzymatically synthesize copies in multiple amounts of a selected DNA region for various purposes.

Chikungunya (CHIK) is an emerging and reemerging infectious disease of public health importance in Indonesia. Information on the asymptomatic and true burden of CHIK virus (CHIKV) infections is limited. We assayed 1,092 healthy population samples, collected in North and South Sulawesi between 2019 and 2020, for antibodies against CHIKV.

Molecular biodiversity surveys have been increasingly applied in hyperdiverse tropical regions as an efficient tool for rapid species assessment of partially undiscovered fauna and flora. This is done by overcoming shortfalls in knowledge or availability of reproductive structures during the sampling period, which often represents a bottleneck for accurate specimens' identification. DNA sequencing technology is intensifying species discovery, and in combination with morphological identification, has been filling gaps in taxonomic knowledge and facilitating species inventories of tropical ecosystems.

The present study elucidated hepatic molecular and physiological responses of giant gourami to high dietary carbohydrates. Two levels of dietary carbohydrate, normal carbohydrate (34%, NC) and high carbohydrate (53%, HC), were offered to the fish for 60 days. We evaluated the expression of genes that are related to carbohydrate metabolism, lipogenic capacities, amino acid catabolism, Krebs cycle, and energy sensing.

Glioma is a human brain tumor that is very difficult to treat at an advanced stage. Studies of glioma biomarkers have shown that some markers are released into the bloodstream, so data from these markers indicate a decrease in the concentration of blood glucose and serum glucose in patients with glioma; these suggest an association between glucose and glioma. This decrease mechanism in glucose concentration can be described by the coupled ordinary differential equations of the early-stage glioma growth and interactions between glioma cells, immune cells, and glucose concentration.

Diseases are one of the possible threats to the conservation of wild cat populations. One disease that has been reported to infect and cause death, including in various wildlife, is the canine distemper virus (CDV). Here, we report the first case of CDV in an adolescent melanistic Javan female leopard in Indonesia.

This study aimed to enhance tropical fast-growing tree species' resistance to subterranean termite (Coptotermes curvignathus) attacks through the manufacturing of polystyrene glued-laminated timber (glulam). Three young tropical wood species, namely manii (Maesopsis eminii), mangium (Acacia mangium), and rubber-wood (Hevea brasiliensis), were cut into laminae. After drying, the laminae were impregnated with styrene monomer, then polymerized using potassium peroxydisulfate as a catalyst and heat.

Cultural ecosystem services (CES) are intangible benefits people obtain from an ecosystem through physical and cognitive interactions. Understanding CES provides vital insights into how activities impacting ecosystem services also impact people. Gili Matra Islands, a set of three small tropical islands located in West Nusa Tenggara Province, Indonesia, are an increasingly busy marine tourism destination and a marine protected area.

This study investigated the effect of transient submergence on the recovery of photosynthetic activity and translocation of photosynthate in IR67520 (Sub1A genotype) and IR72442 (non-Sub1A genotype) using C-labeled tracer, coupled with some photosynthetic physiological assessments. Plant growth, photosynthetic capacity, and photosynthetic recovery were studied by treating the two rice genotypes without or completely submerged for 7 days in transparent acrylic tanks filled with water to a depth of 80 cm, followed by 7 days of reaeration. Results revealed that the IR67520 was able to obtain new carbon source for assimilation during at 7 days of recovery periods.

Model averaging (MA) is a modelling strategy where the uncertainty in the configuration of selected variables is taken into account by weight-combining each estimate of the so-called 'candidate model'. Some studies have shown that MA enables better prediction, even in high-dimensional cases. However, little is known about the model prediction performance at different types of multicollinearity in high-dimensional data.

Chemical substances used during batik processing may affect the physiological function of the batik worker's skin barrier. This study assessed the level of transepidermal water loss (TEWL), skin hydration, and skin acidity in 61 batik workers from the batik center in Paseseh village, Tanjung Bumi subdistrict, Madura Island, Indonesia. Forty-five batik workers involved in dry work including drawing patterns on the cloth with wax and sixteen batik workers involved in wet work including dyeing the cloth with a dye bath were included in this study.

Mesoporous silica NSG had been synthesized while employing gelatin as a natural template to successfully increase the particle size and expand the pore diameter of NSG. All silica samples exhibited a similar XRD pattern with a broad peak centred at 2θ = 22.9°, as the characteristic of amorphous silica.

Purpose: The stomachs and spiral valves of sharks and rays were examined for their trypanorhynch (Cestoda) parasite fauna and dietary items to infer feeding ecology. In Indonesia, sharks and rays have been experiencing increasing awareness and conservation in the recent years due to high fisheries activities and to avoid future species extinction.
Methods: The samples were collected in 2009 from two different sampling sites at the southern coasts of Java and Bali in Indonesia.

Background: Smallholding plantations represent approximately 40% of the total palm oil plantation area globally. For any certifications, standards, and other instruments to achieve more ethical and sustainable palm oil supply chains, it is essential to improve smallholder engagement in the schemes. A large body of research has built up our understanding of the challenges of engaging smallholders in sustainability initiatives in various sites and countries.

This study aimed to develop a process for producing bio-oil, char, and value-added chemicals from food waste and plastic waste blend using co-pyrolysis under controlled conditions. The food waste (rice, vegetables, and fish) was blended in definite ratios (70:30, 60:40, and 50:50 w/w) with polyethylene terephthalate (PET). Experiments were conducted at various temperatures (250, 300, and 350 °C) and reaction times (30, 60, 90, and 120 min).
