Background: Body contouring surgery removes excess skin and fat, often after massive weight loss. Some reports suggest that patients who have previously undergone obesity (bariatric) surgery are at excess risk of subsequent bleeding, possibly due to complex nutritional and metabolic sequelae of massive weight loss.
Methods: A retrospective cohort study of intraoperative blood loss and postoperative bleeding indicators were examined for patients who had undergone abdominoplasty.

Endometriosis is a common cause of pain and infertility. Abdominal wall endometriosis (AWE) is a form of extrapelvic endometriosis that can be encountered during abdominal surgery such as abdominoplasty or free flap harvest. We report two cases of AWE; one found intraoperatively in a 32-year-old woman desiring body contouring after undergoing cesarean section, and a second in a 36-year-old woman requiring resection and reconstruction of a left chondroid tenosynovial giant cell tumor of her temporomandibular joint.

Background And Objective: Perforator flaps have revolutionized autologous breast reconstruction, introducing both free and pedicled options as well as the potential for combining flaps. These versatile techniques can be utilized in massive weight loss (MWL) patients, effectively addressing both functional and aesthetic challenges by using their excess skin. This review aims to explore literature on combined pedicled and free perforator flaps for total breast reconstruction, and share our own experience in the field.

Background: Fleur-de-lis panniculectomy (FDL), a contouring technique involving vertical and horizontal tissue resections, often involves longer operative times and potential complications. This study assessed operative time, postoperative outcomes, and patient-reported quality of life (PRO) with Insorb Absorbable Subcuticular Skin Stapler versus traditional sutures during FDL.
Methods: A retrospective review from 2015 to 2022 of FDL patients excluded those with complex concomitant procedures.

Background: Complications after abdominoplasty remain an unsolved issue in body contouring surgery. The antifibrinolytic drug tranexamic acid (TXA) has gained increasing recognition as a valuable pharmacologic agent within plastic surgery. The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of intravenously administered TXA on complications and patient safety after abdominoplasty.

Introduction: Lipoabdominoplasty is one of the most common abdominal body contouring procedures performed today; however, it carries the risk of significant complications. Pneumothorax is a rare complication of liposuction, while, venous thromboembolism has a low short-term mortality and long-term morbidity.
Presentation Of Case: A 57-year-old woman with a history of diabetes mellitus, hypertension, obesity, and severe COVID-19 three years earlier.

Background: Patients with obesity who undergo bariatric surgery achieve sustained weight loss but are often left with excess skin folds that cause functional and psychological deficits. To remove excess skin, patients can undergo postbariatric BCS; however, cost and lack of insurance coverage present a significant barrier for many patients.
Objectives: This study aimed to characterize the financial impact of treatment on all patients who received bariatric surgery and to compare between those receiving only bariatric surgery and those with postbariatric BCS.
Background: Different types of abdominoplasties have been developed to address individual patient characteristics. However, an analysis of complication rates and risk factors for different types of abdominoplasties has yet to be reported.
Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the complication rates and risks associated with each type of abdominoplasty.

Background: As the obesity crisis in the United States continues, some renal transplantation centers have liberalized their BMI criteria necessary for transplant eligibility. More individuals with larger body-habitus related comorbidities with End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) now qualify for renal transplantation (RT). Surgical modalities from other fields also interact with this patient population.

This study aimed at comparing the histological characteristics of the skin of patients having surgical MWL (SMWL) post-BMS to those with non-surgical massive weight loss (NSMWL).
Methods: This prospective study compared the epidermal thickness, and collagen and elastin fibers content in 80 skin biopsies obtained from BCS procedures performed to patients who experienced MWL defined more than 50% of excess weight loss (%EWL) either SMWL (40 biopsies) or NSMWL (40 biopsies).

von Willebrand disease (vWD) is an inherited bleeding disorder that is characterized by a quantitative or qualitative deficiency of the von Willebrand factor (vWF). Type 3 is the most severe form of vWD with a near-complete absence of vWF and a significantly increased risk of excessive bleeding and hematoma during a surgical procedure. To date, no data on surgical and hemostatic management of a type 3 vWD patient undergoing body-contouring surgery has been published.

Body contouring surgeons encounter a wide range of deformities affecting multiple areas of the body. Combining and staging procedures can assist in optimizing outcomes, but there is no one-size-fits-all approach to surgical sequencing and timing. A meticulous, individualized approach to preoperative planning can lead to reliable, aesthetically pleasing results that align with the patient's goals and preferences.
