Background: Venous thromboembolism (VTE) poses a major risk after abdominal contouring surgery, impacting morbidity and mortality. Despite various preventative strategies, surgeons are cautious about using enoxaparin for extended postoperative periods. This study aims to determine if a 7-day postoperative course of enoxaparin increases bleeding risks compared with a single dose of intraoperative unfractionated heparin in patients undergoing abdominal contouring surgery.

Background: Rising demand for non-invasive body contouring is driven by aesthetics and the obesity epidemic. Deoxycholic acid (DCA) is the only FDA-approved injectable for fat reduction but can cause side effects and significant local skin reactions (LSR). RNA interference, using small interfering RNA (siRNA) molecules, offers targeted fat reduction by silencing genes involved in fat maintenance.

Introduction: Cosmetic surgery tourism is a burgeoning field, attracting patients with the possibility of procedures at reduced costs. Patients are often unaware of the potential cost of managing complications, with the cost often passed on to the local healthcare systems. We report our experience at a single academic center which serves as a safety net hospital managing cosmetic surgery tourism patients.

Introduction: Abdominoplasty aims to reduce the abdominal excess tissue and tighten the abdominal wall. The tightening of the abdominal wall has structural and habitual consequences on the body, which might have an early effect on electrocardiography (ECG) of the patients through volumetric and pressure changes in thoracic and abdominal cavities. ECG serves as a diagnostic tool for assessing cardiac electrical conductions in routine clinical practice.

Introduction: Post-bariatric surgery is one of the fastest-growing subspecialties in plastic surgery. The increase in the number of surgical procedures has not been followed by an equivalent categorization of patients. Surgical innovations and technical refinements are widespread, while clear classification and objectification of surgical indications are lacking.

Objective: The purpose of this study is to present an innovative and efficient alternative to conventional silicone drains for seroma prevention, aiming to enhance patient outcomes and satisfaction post-liposuction.
Patients And Method: In this retrospective, comparative study, we evaluated a total of 300 patients, divided into two groups. All patients underwent liposculpture of the back and hips, either as a standalone procedure or as part of lipoabdominoplasty or Mommy Makeover interventions: Group I (n = 150) patients without drain placement and Group II (n = 150) patients with drain placement.

The sleeve gastrectomy (SG) often requires conversion to Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) due to gastroesophageal reflux disorder (GERD). Many postbariatric patients seek body-contouring surgery such as abdominoplasty to remove unwanted skin and fat. Although the number of abdominoplasties performed in postbariatric patients is increasing each year, the number of conversion surgeries is increasing in accordance.

The corset trunkplasty was introduced by Moya et al. in 2009 (Moya and Sharma in JPRAS 62:56-64, 2009). It is a modified abdominoplasty technique that combines vertical and high lateral incisions to achieve an hourglass shape in post-massive weight loss patients.

Breast reconstruction in postbariatric patients presents unique challenges due to substantial weight loss-induced body deformities. We present the case of a 51-year-old woman with massive lower abdominal deformities who underwent a mastectomy treatment followed by a temporary expander-based reconstruction. A year later, a fleur-de-lis-shaped free deep inferior epigastric artery perforator flap and abdominoplasty were performed for autologous reconstruction and abdominal contouring.

Background: Looking for an adequate solution for those patients who desire abdominal definition, but are not candidates for liposuction alone, Danilla developed a technique, using selective fat grafting into the rectus abdominis (RAFT) to increase the muscle volume in addition to selective liposuction and abdominoplasty to provide an optimal body contouring.
Objective: To determine whether intramuscular fat grafting in the rectus abdominis muscles leads to an increase in muscle thickness after one year.
Methods: This is a prospective cohort study, from a single center, carried out over 24 months (October 2021-September 2023).

This identical twin case demonstrates the aesthetic differences of two different body contouring procedures in alike patients. Body contouring improves physical, psychosocial, and sexual function therefore providing the best possible aesthetic outcome for massive weight loss patients is important. The Fleur-de-Lis pattern should be strongly considered when dealing with moderate to significant horizontal skin excess of the abdomen to obtain the best possible contouring and create an attractive female contour of hip and waist.

Unlabelled: Diastasis recti (DR) is characterized by the deviation of the abdominal rectus muscle due to widening of the linea alba and laxity of the abdominal wall musculature. This condition affects the quality of life, in terms of performance of activities of daily living and physical tasks. Several techniques have been described to correct DR.

Background: Recent sociocultural trends show numerous patients requesting more curvaceous profiles. Abdominoplasty techniques had evolved into a combination of fascial plication with liposuction of the lateral torso, but often left patients with "boxy" profiles. The senior author performs 360-degree liposuction of abdomen and back, hip expansion with structural fat grafting, excision of redundant soft tissue, and wide plication of abdominal fascia to create the desired profile.

Background: Abdominoplasty is a critical aesthetic and functional procedure for individuals who have undergone massive weight loss. Numerous techniques have been proposed to optimize aesthetic results while minimizing complications.
Methods: This prospective study examined 500 patients who underwent abdominoplasty during body-contouring procedures between 1 January 2018 and 31 December 2021 at a tertiary center.
Background: Complications after body-contouring surgery are a field of great interest. Recognition of patient-related characteristics contributing to a greater risk for complication is of the utmost importance in improving the quality of care and safety profile of aesthetic procedures. Previous history of cesarean section (CS) and its impact on adverse events after abdominoplasty has yet to be investigated and defined.

Background: Abdominoplasty is a common surgical procedure in which excess abdominal skin and fat are reduced to improve body contouring. Fibrin sealant has been proposed to reduce postsurgical bleeding and exudation. In this study, we evaluated whether there was a significant statistical difference in surgical output between the use of fibrin glue and its nonuse in abdominoplasty surgery, specifically in reducing bleeding and exudation.

Background: Diastasis recti abdominis (DRA) indicates an abnormal separation of the rectus abdominal muscles from the midline, resulting in abdominal bulging. Recent literature shows a correlation between DRA and back pain, stress urinary incontinence. Primary goal of this study is to check the correlation between DRA correction in abdominoplasty and improvement of urinary symptoms.

Background: Metabolic syndrome (MetS) represents cardiometabolic dysregulation, defined by hypertension, obesity, diabetes, and dyslipidemia. There remains a significant gap in our understanding of whether MetS impacts outcomes of abdominal body contouring procedures. We aimed to assess the influence of MetS on postoperative outcomes of abdominal body contouring by concurrent abdominoplasty and panniculectomy.

Background: Effective postoperative pain management is essential for patient satisfaction and an uneventful postoperative course, particularly in body contouring procedures. Systemic analgesic regimens can be supported by regional procedures, such as the transverse abdominis plane (TAP) block, but these have a limited duration of action. In contrast, thoracic epidural analgesia offers the possibility of a longer-lasting, individualized regional anesthesia administered by a patient-controlled analgesia pump.

Background: Body contouring surgery removes excess skin and fat, often after massive weight loss. Some reports suggest that patients who have previously undergone obesity (bariatric) surgery are at excess risk of subsequent bleeding, possibly due to complex nutritional and metabolic sequelae of massive weight loss.
Methods: A retrospective cohort study of intraoperative blood loss and postoperative bleeding indicators were examined for patients who had undergone abdominoplasty.
