Cobalt is a trace element, crucial for red blood cell formation and neurological function. Cobalt toxicity is often only diagnosed after severe manifestations, including visual impairment. We aimed to investigate whether optical coherence tomography (OCT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) can effectively detect cobalt-induced ocular toxicity in a murine model.

Background: The Montreal classification has been widely used in Crohn's disease since 2005 to categorize patients by the age of onset (A), disease location (L), behavior (B), and upper gastrointestinal tract and perianal involvement. With evolving management paradigms in Crohn's disease, we aimed to assess the performance of gastroenterologists in applying the Montreal classification.
Methods: An online survey was conducted among participants at an international educational conference on inflammatory bowel diseases.

Background: A ground glass nodule (GGN) is a radiologically descriptive term for a lung parenchymal area with increased attenuation and preserved bronchial and vascular structures. GGNs are further divided into pure versus subsolid lesions. The differential diagnosis for GGNs is wide and contains a malignant possibility for a lung adenocarcinoma precursor or tumor.

Inborn errors of selenoprotein expression arise from deleterious variants in genes encoding selenoproteins or selenoprotein biosynthetic factors, some of which are associated with neurodegenerative disorders. This study shows that bi-allelic selenocysteine tRNA-specific eukaryotic elongation factor (EEFSEC) variants cause selenoprotein deficiency, leading to progressive neurodegeneration. EEFSEC deficiency, an autosomal recessive disorder, manifests with global developmental delay, progressive spasticity, ataxia, and seizures.

Eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) is a chronic inflammatory disease of the esophagus, which is mediated by Th2 cells that could start at any age, from early childhood to adulthood. The pathogenesis of the disease is not fully understood, but apparently it consists of a combined interaction between hereditary and environmental factors. Over the years, EoE has become an increasingly diagnosed disease in the context of esophageal symptoms.

Objectives: Direct hand function is not commonly evaluated in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). The Functional Dexterity Test (FDT) assesses a patient's ability to use the hand for daily tasks and is an accepted quantitative assessment tool in occupational medicine. This pilot study aimed to examine the correlations of FDT-measured hand performance with disease activity status in a cohort of RA patients.

Real-world studies complement clinical trials, since patterns of patient selection, treatment-exposure and post-remission management may vary. This prospective observational multi-center study included 209 newly diagnosed IC-ineligible patients with a median age 75 years (interquartile range, 71-81 years).

Purpose: To explore the effect of cobalt toxicity on vision.
Methods: A total of 103 wild-type (WT) mice were injected with cobalt chloride by two routes in different concentrations: single intravenous (IV) high or low doses (total, n = 43); or daily repeated intraperitoneal (IP) high (three days) or low (28 days, 56 days) dose, and low-dose cobalt with added minocycline (56 days) (total, n = 60); 10 WT mice served as a control group. An additional group of 17 immunodeficient NOD scid gamma (NSG) mice were injected IV or IP with cobalt, and 10 NSG mice served as control.
