Introduction: ABO blood type changes after ABO-incompatible hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). Most non-hematopoietic tissues retain the expression of the patient's own ABO antigens, which may adsorb from the plasma onto the donor's red blood cells (RBCs). Because of this phenomenon, a persistent patient's A and/or B antigen could be detected in the laboratory, despite 100% white cell donor chimerism.

Background And Objectives: The aim of the present study was to assess the effect of sociodemographic factors on knowledge, attitudes, motivation and potential barriers of university students towards blood donation in the order to more effective donation promotion.
Design: The cross-sectional study was conducted on 1000 participants (500 non-blood donors-NBD, 276 first time blood donors-FTBD and 224 regular blood donors-RBD) from the 14 faculties of the University of Novi Sad, Serbia. The measurement tool used was a pretested survey questionnaire that included 22 questions focused on the factors influencing blood donation.

Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) is known to induce oxidative stress and inflammation, leading to significant damage in cardiac tissues. This study investigates the protective effects of melatonin (MLT) against LPS-induced oxidative damage, inflammation, and apoptosis in rat heart tissue. Rats were divided into four groups ( = 6 per group): control, melatonin-treated, LPS-treated, and LPS + melatonin-treated.

This research explores the association between ABO blood groups and susceptibility to SARS-CoV-2 infection, analyzing Convalescent COVID-19 plasma (CCP) donors ( = 500) and healthy whole blood donors (BDs) ( = 9678) during the pandemic (1 May 2020 to 30 April 2021). A comparison is made with pre-pandemic BDs ( = 11,892) from 1 May 2018 to 30 April 2019. Significant differences in blood group distribution are observed, with blood group A individuals being three times more likely to be CCP donors.

Many patients require administering one or more blood components during hospitalisation in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Therefore, nurses' knowledge of who is responsible for immediately administering blood transfusions, monitoring patients, and identifying and managing transfusion reactions is crucial. This cross-sectional descriptive-analytical study aimed to assess the knowledge of ICU nurses in tertiary healthcare institutions about blood transfusion procedures.

Backround And Objectives: Blood transfusion therapy is vital for many patient groups. They can cause many complications, and the development of anti-red blood cell (RBC) antibodies is of significant importance. Molecules of class II human leucocyte antigens (HLA) are one of the several factors that influence antibody development in patients.

: Apart from the well-known fact that hyperthyroidism induces multiple prothrombotic disorders, there is no consensus in clinical practice as to the impact of hyperthyroidism on the risk of thrombosis. The aim of this study was to examine the various hemostatic and immunologic parameters in patients with hyperthyroidism. : Our study consists of a total of 200 patients comprised of 64 hyperthyroid patients, 68 hypothyroid patients, and 68 euthyroid controls.

Purpose: In order to ensure that drug administration is safe during pregnancy, it is crucial to have the possibility to predict the placental permeability of drugs in humans. The experimental method which is most widely used for the said purpose is in vitro human placental perfusion, though the approach is highly expensive and time consuming. Quantitative structure-activity relationship (QSAR) modeling represents a powerful tool for the assessment of the drug placental transfer, and can be successfully employed to be an alternative in in vitro experiments.

Congenital fibrinogen deficiency (CFD) is a rare bleeding disorder caused by mutations in FGA, FGB, and FGG. We sought to comprehensively characterize patients with CFD using PRO-RBDD (Prospective Rare Bleeding Disorders Database). Clinical phenotypes, laboratory, and genetic features were investigated using retrospective data from the PRO-RBDD.

Background And Objectives: An important requirement for a hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) screening assay is reliable detection of HBsAg mutant forms, especially in blood donation. Here we investigate and describe the case of an isolated false-negative result of commercial serology HBsAg screening assay of a blood donor.
Materials And Methods: The current donation was routinely tested for HBsAg and hepatitis B virus (HBV) DNA in the mini-pool mode nucleic acid testing (MP-NAT of six samples), and further evaluated by individual donation ID-NAT.

The rapid trend of industrialization and urbanization can lead to greater exposure of the general population to chromium, cobalt, and nickel. Their total body burden from all routes of recent exposure, as well as interindividual variability in exposure levels, metabolism, and excretion rates, are reflected in the blood metal concentrations. The main goals in this study were as follows: observing the reference levels of chromium, cobalt, and nickel in the blood of the population living in Belgrade, identification of individual and sociodemographic factors that most affect their blood levels, and comprehension of recent exposure to chromium, cobalt, and nickel.

Toxoplasmosis, caused by the cosmopolitan protozoan , has particular implications during pregnancy due to the possible transmission of infection to the fetus. Very few studies have assessed seroprevalence and the risk factors for toxoplasmosis in healthy pregnant women. The aim of this study was to examine the seroprevalence of infection in healthy pregnant women and to identify the associated risk factors for toxoplasmosis.

We appraised the relationship between the biological and the chronological age and estimated the rate of biological aging in HIV-infected patients. Two independent biomarkers, the relative telomere length and iron metabolism parameters, were analyzed in younger (<35) and older (>50) HIV-infected and uninfected patients (control group). In our control group, telomeres of younger patients were significantly longer than telomeres of older ones.

Objective: Elevated factor VIII has been shown to be an independent risk factor for deep venous thrombosis and pulmonary embolism. It has been suggested that increased factor VIII levels by itself is insufficient to cause thrombosis; however, increased factor VIII with other risk factors could increase the risk of thrombosis. The aim of the study was to evaluate the factor VIII level with regard to the type of thrombosis and patient's risk factors such as age or comorbidity.
