The aim of this study was to determine what is considered a long oral surgery and conduct a cost-effective analysis of sedative agents used for intravenous sedation (IVS) and sedation protocols for such procedures. Pubmed and Google Scholar databases were used to identify human studies employing IVS for extractions and implant-related surgeries, between 2003 and July/2023. Sedation protocols and procedure lengths were documented.

The presence of central nervous system lesions fulfilling the criteria of dissemination in space and time on MRI leads to the diagnosis of a radiologically isolated syndrome (RIS), which may be an early sign of multiple sclerosis (MS). However, some patients who do not fulfill the necessary criteria for RIS still evolve to MS, and some T2 hyperintensities that resemble demyelinating lesions may originate from mimics. In light of the recent recognition of the efficacy of disease-modifying therapy (DMT) in RIS, it is relevant to consider additional imaging features that are more specific of MS.

Methods: A comprehensive search on Pubmed and Google Scholar databases was conducted to identify human studies using SOHTEs for STE; last searched in March 2023. Expansion phase details and expander variables were documented.

Aims: To identify and critically appraise available evidence on the efficacy and safety of antibiotics in preventing complications following oral implant placement treatment.
Methods: An electronic search was performed using PubMed, Ovid MEDLINE and Cochrane Library databases up to July/21 for the purpose of answering the research question: In[healthy adults treated with dental implants]the use of[different antibiotics before or immediately after treatment]in comparison to[treatment without antibiotics]is safe and effective in terms of[infection, pain, swelling, wound dehiscence, soft tissue healing, early/late implant failure]? Following the Best Evidence Topic methodology, the included studies were categorised based on the Oxford Centre for Evidence-Based Medicine (OCEBM) ratings. The critical appraisal skills programme CASP checklist was used for the methodological analysis.

Background: Ubrogepant is an oral calcitonin gene-related peptide receptor antagonist approved for the acute treatment of migraine in adults.
Methods: After completing one of two phase 3 trials, participants could enroll in a phase 3, 52-week, open-label, long-term safety extension trial and were re-randomized 1:1:1 to usual care, ubrogepant 50 mg, or ubrogepant 100 mg.

In carefully selected patients, autologous haematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) is a safe, highly effective and cost-saving treatment modality for treatment-resistant, and potentially treatment-naïve, immune-mediated neurological disorders. Although the evidence base has been growing in the last decade, limited understanding has led to confusion, mistrust and increasing use of health tourism. In this article, we discuss what autologous HSCT is, which immune-mediated conditions can be treated with it, how to select patients, what are the expected outcomes and potential adverse effects, and how cost-effective this treatment is.

Introduction And Objective: The shift of surgical training from apprenticeship model towards competency-based training requires objective assessments of microsurgical skills to achieve mastery. Our objective was to create a novel platform to provide feedback to surgical trainees relative to competency expected at their level of exposure.
Methods: A 5-day simulated microsurgery course was run between 2013 and 2016 with 118 participants.
A hallmark of senescence is the acquisition of an enhanced secretome comprising inflammatory mediators and tissue remodelling agents - the senescence-associated secretory phenotype (SASP). Through the SASP, senescent cells are hypothesised to contribute to both ageing and pathologies associated with age. Whilst soluble factors have been the most widely investigated components of the SASP, there is growing evidence that small extracellular vesicles (EVs) comprise functionally important constituents.

Objective: In the era of damage control resuscitation of trauma patients with acute major haemorrhage, transfusion practice has evolved to blood component (component therapy) administered in a ratio that closely approximates whole blood (WB). However, there is a paucity of evidence supporting the optimal transfusion strategy in these patients. The primary objective was therefore to establish if there is an improvement in survival at 30 days with the use of WB transfusion compared with blood component therapy in adult trauma patients with acute major haemorrhage.

With the move towards simulation based microsurgical training and emphasis on the declining usage of animal models, there is a need for an objective method to evaluate microvascular anastomosis in a non-living, simulated microsurgical training environment. Our aim was to create a validated assessment tool to evaluate the intimal surface of the end product to measure skills acquisition. The intimal surface of 200 anastomoses from 23 candidates and 2 experts were assessed using ImageJ to measure 4 parameters: 1) distance between the distal insertion points, 2) distance between the proximal insertion points, 3) length of sutures placed, 4) number of axes.
