In Denmark, approximately 5% of new mothers experience postpartum depression, potentially hindering a child's care and stimulation for ideal social-emotional development. This literary review explores the impact of maternal postpartum depression on a child's social-emotional development and confirms that maternal postpartum depression potentially harms the child's social-emotional development. Nevertheless, there is cause for optimism in the literature, suggesting that the impact on the child is likely to be transient in cases of shorter durations of postpartum depression.

Fabry disease (FD) is an X-linked lysosomal storage disease caused by α-galactosidase A deficiency, leading to intralysosomal build-up of glycosphingolipids. In this case report, a 35-year-old male presented with thousands of angiokeratomas, primarily concentrated in the "bathing-trunk" area. Despite numerous visits to doctors in different specialities FD was not suspected.

Abuse of androgenic anabolic steroids (AAS) is associated with a range of cardiovascular side effects, summarized in this review. Apart from being linked to cardiovascular risk factors such as hypertension and dyslipidaemia, AAS abuse is associated with coronary atherosclerosis and imparts a pro-coagulative state, predisposing to thromboembolic disease. Finally, AAS abuse leads to left ventricular hypertrophy and dysfunction, which can ultimately result in heart failure.

Ingrown toenail is a common condition with many different treatment options. This review finds evidence that mild cases can be treated safely with non-surgical methods like change of ill-fitted shoes and nail brace. With failure in non-surgical treatment or in more severe cases surgical methods can be performed with note to the risk of complications - most frequently infection and the risk of recurrence at 3-13%.

Recently, semi-synthetic cannabinoids have entered the illegal market and are produced to mimic the psychoactive effects of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). This is a case report of a 19-year-old man, who was hospitalized due to severe sedation, hypotension and tachy- and bradycardia after ingestion of the semi-synthetic cannabinoids hexahydrocannabinol (HHC) and hexahydrocannabiphorol (HHC-P) mixed in food. HHC-P, HHC and metabolites were identified in blood samples.

Evidence suggests that available antiemetics are equal to intravenous fluid treatment against acute nausea of other causes than motion sickness, pregnancy, anaesthesia, chemo- or radiation therapy. Each antiemetic is associated with adverse effects, which include movement disorders, sedation, and QT prolongation. Intravenous fluid and treatment directed against underlying pathology is recommended as a first-line treatment against nausea in these patients.

This review summarises the present knowledge of acute foot attacks in patients with diabetes. Diagnosis and treatment of acute foot attacks in patients with diabetes are often delayed, which increases the risk of amputations. To prevent this, urgent action is necessary, as it is for acute myocardial infarction and stroke, to ensure that patients are seen by competent specialists in a multidisciplinary team within hours.

Traumatic fractures are often treated conservatively. Bone healing is a complex process and the complexities of a fracture, bone quality, treatment, and patient factors are all crucial. Routine X-rays and clinical follow-ups are a significant cost to society as well as exposing the patient to increased radiation and should only be performed if there is a risk of complications that may impact the treatment.

The randomised clinical trial is the most reliable study design to compare the effects of different interventions, however, the methodological quality of randomised clinical trials varies. In this review, the central considerations for critically appraising a randomised clinical trial are described along with an example, terminological references, description of design variants and reporting guidelines and appraisal tools. This review aims at helping clinicians and other users of randomised clinical trials to assess the trustworthiness and relevance of trial results for their own practice.
