The role of farmed animals in the viral spillover from wild animals to humans is of growing importance. Between July and September of 2023 infectious disease outbreaks were reported on six Arctic fox () farms in Shandong and Liaoning provinces, China, which lasted for 2-3 months and resulted in tens to hundreds of fatalities per farm. Severe Fever with Thrombocytopenia Syndrome Virus (SFTSV) was identified in tissue/organ and swab samples from all the 13 foxes collected from these farms.

African swine fever (ASF) caused by the ASF virus (ASFV) is a severe and highly contagious viral disease that poses a significant threat to the global pig industry. As no vaccines or effective drugs are available to aid prevention and control, early detection is crucial. The emergence of the low-virulence ASFV strain not expressing CD2v/MGFs (ASFVΔCD2v/ΔMGFs) has been identified domestically and internationally and has even become an epidemic in China, resulting in a complex epidemic.

The aim of this study was to investigate the impact of supplementary feeding with Chinese herbal mixtures on perinatal sows, focusing on their reproductive performance, immunity and breast milk quality. Sixty healthy pregnant sows (Large white, 4 parities) were randomly allocated into five treatment groups ( = 12 per group): the control group received a basal diet, the TRT1 group received a basal diet supplemented with 2 kg/t Bazhen powder (BZP), while the TRT2, TRT3, and TRT4 groups received a basal diet supplemented with 1 kg/t, 2 kg/t, and 3 kg/t Qi-Zhu-Gui-Shao soothing liver and replenishing blood powder (QZGSP), respectively. The trial lasted for a duration of 5 weeks, commencing from day 100 of gestation and concluding on day 21 postpartum.

AFB1 is a common foodborne toxin known for its potent carcinogenicity. Danshen polysaccharide (DSP) is an active ingredient of Danshen, which has been demonstrated to possess support intestinal homeostasis and anti-inflammatory activities. We utilized New Zealand White rabbits as an animal model to examine the impact of co-exposure to DSP and AFB1 on the intestines, as well as their underlying mechanisms.

The stress response of pig herds poses a significant challenge in the pig breeding industry, and investigating strategies to mitigate this stress is of paramount importance. The objective of this study was to investigate the impacts of supplemental feeding of Chinese herbal mixtures to perinatal sows on antioxidant capacity and gut microbiota of sows and their offspring piglets. A total of 60 healthy sows (Large white) at fourth parity were randomly assigned to five treatment groups.

The present study aimed to assess the effects of simulated microgravity (SMG) on 3T3 cell proliferation and the expression of cell cycle regulators. 3T3 cells were induced to SMG by Gravite® for 8 days, while the control group was treated with 1G condition. The result showed that the SMG condition causes a decrease in proliferative activity in 3T3 cells.

Objective: Porcine interferon-γ (poIFN-γ) and porcine granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (poGM-CSF) are multifunctional cytokines that exhibit robust antiviral activity against porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV). In this study, the immunoadjuvant effects of recombinant poIFN-γ-poGM-CSF fusion protein in inactivated PRRSV vaccine administered to piglets were assessed.
Animals: Twenty-eight 4-week-old specific pathogen-free piglets.

Outbreaks of hepatitis-hydropericardium syndrome (HHS) caused by fowl adenovirus serotype 4 (FAdV-4) have resulted in huge economic losses to the poultry industry in China since 2015. However, commercially available vaccines against the FAdV-4 infection remain scarce. In our study, subunit vaccine candidates derived from the bacterially expressed recombinant Fiber1 knob domain and Fiber2 knob domain fusion protein (termed as Fiber1/2 knob subunit vaccine) and Fiber2 protein (termed as Fiber2 subunit vaccine) of the FAdV-4 SDSX strain were developed.

Aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) is one of the common dietary contaminants worldwide, which can harm the liver of humans and animals. Salvia miltiorrhiza polysaccharide (SMP) is a natural plant-derived polysaccharide with numerous pharmacological activities, including hepatoprotective properties. The purpose of this study is to explore the intervention effect of SMP on AFB1-induced liver injury and its underlying mechanisms in rabbits.

Background: Cells are sensitive to changes in gravity, especially the cytoskeletal structures that determine cell morphology. The aim of this study was to assess the effects of simulated microgravity (SMG) on 3T3 cell morphology, as demonstrated by a characterization of the morphology of cells and nuclei, alterations of microfilaments and microtubules, and changes in cycle progression.
Methods: 3T3 cells underwent induced SMG for 72 h with Gravite, while the control group was under 1G.

Porcine circovirus type 3 (PCV3) is endemic in swine worldwide and causes reproductive disorders, dermatitis and nephrotic syndrome, and multi-organ inflammation. Currently, there is a growing need for rapid and accurate diagnostic methods in disease monitoring. In this study, four monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) against PCV3 capsid proteins were prepared (mAbs 2F6, 2G8, 6E2, and 7E3).

Metal oxides play a promising role in the transformation of polyphenols and amino acids involved in naturally occurring humification. The objective of this study was to explore the synergistic interactions between FeO and O in the formation of humic substances under a controlled O atmosphere (0%, 21% and 40% O levels). The results indicate that an O level of 21% with FeO was optimal for humic acid (HA) production.

Porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) causes acute watery diarrhea and high mortality in newborn piglets. Activation of intestinal mucosal immunity is crucial to anti-PEDV infection. To develop a vaccine capable of stimulating intestinal mucosal immunity, we prepared a bacterium ()-like particle (BLP) vaccine (S1-BLPs) displaying the S1 protein, a domain of PEDV spike protein (S), based on gram-positive enhancer matrix (GEM) particle display technology.
