The genetic code consists of 61 codons coding for 20 amino acids. These codons are recognized by transfer RNAs (tRNAs) that bind to specific codons during protein synthesis. All organisms utilize less than all 61 possible anticodons due to base pair wobble: the ability to have a mismatch with a codon at its third nucleotide.

Advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) provide many helpful tools for healthcare, one of which includes AI chatbots that use natural language processing to create humanlike, conversational dialog. These chatbots have general cognitive skills and are able to engage with clinicians and patients to discuss patients' health conditions and what they may be at risk for. While chatbot engines have access to a wide range of medical texts and research papers, they currently provide high-level, generic responses and are limited in their ability to provide diagnostic guidance and clinical advice to patients on an individual level.

Optimization of enzymatic extraction of pectin from Opuntia ficus indica cladodes after mucilage removal.

Food Chem

February 2018

Laboratory of Microorganisms and Biomolecules, Center of Biotechnology of Sfax, University of Sfax, Sidi Mansour Road Km 6, B.P 1177, Sfax 3018, Tunisia; Biotechnology High School of Sfax (ISBS), University of Sfax, Soukra Road Km 4.5, P.O. Box 261, Sfax 3038, Tunisia. Electronic address:

In this study, pectin was isolated from Opuntia ficus indica (OFI) cladodes after removing mucilage using the xylanase and cellulase. The process variables were optimized by the Box Behnken design with three factors at three levels. The optimal extraction condition obtained was: liquid to solid (LS), cellulase to xylanase and enzymes to matter ratios of 22ml/g, 2:1U/U and 4U/g, respectively.

Ultrasonic assisted extraction (UAE) of pectin from Opuntia ficus indica (OFI) cladodes after mucilage removal was attempted using the response surface methodology. The process variables were optimized by the isovariant central composite design in order to improve the pectin extraction yield. The optimum condition obtained was: sonication time 70min, temperature 70°C, pH 1.

Extraction and characterization of three polysaccharides extracted from Opuntia ficus indica cladodes.

Int J Biol Macromol

November 2016

Laboratory of Microrganisms and Biomolecules, Center of Biotechnology of Sfax, University of Sfax, Road Sidi Mansour Km 6, B.P 1177 Sfax 3018, Tunisia; Biotechnology High School of Sfax (ISBS) Soukra Km 3; P.O. Box 261, Sfax 3000, Tunisia. Electronic address:

The chemical extraction and the characterization of polysaccharides from mucilage (MC), pectin (PC) and total pectic mucilage fraction (TFC) of Opuntia ficus indica cladodes as well as the evaluation of their antioxidant activities was investigated. The FTIR spectroscopic analysis revealed the presence of carboxyl and hydroxyl groups corresponding to polysaccharides. Uronic acid and the total sugar contents of PC were higher than those of TFC and MC whereas ash content of MC was considerably more important.

Uneven Distribution of Microgranules in Divided Lansoprazole Tablets.

J Pediatr Gastroenterol Nutr

October 2015

*Biotechnology High School, Freehold †Department of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition, Unterberg Children's Hospital at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch, NJ.

Objectives: Lansoprazole is a proton pump inhibitor commonly used in children <12 months of age despite a lack of efficacy and safety data in this age group. To achieve lower doses in this population, many divide standard oral disintegrating tablets. This study seeks to determine if the medication is equally distributed within the tablet to allow for accurate dosing.

Type 2 diabetes is quite diverse, including the improvement of insulin sensitivity by dipeptidylpeptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor, α-glucosidase inhibitors, and the protection of β-cells islet. The aim of this study was to search the effect of trigonelline (Trig) on DPP-4, α-glucosidase and angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) activities as well as β-cells architecture, and starch and glucose tolerance test. In surviving diabetic rats, the supplement of Trig potentially inhibited DPP-4 and α-glucosidase activities in both plasma and small intestine.

Diabetes is a serious health problem and a source of risk for numerous severe complications such as obesity and hypertension. Treatment of diabetes and its related diseases can be achieved by inhibiting key digestive enzymes related to starch and lipid digestion. The findings revealed that the administration of trigonelline to surviving diabetic rats helped to protect the pancreas β-cells from death and damage.

Diabetes mellitus, with its attendant disorders and dysfunctional behaviors, constitutes a growing concern to the population of the world. With this concern in mind, the present study investigated the anti-diabetic and hypolipedimic potential of 17β-estradiol (called E2), particularly in terms of its inhibitory effects on maltase, sucrase, lactase, and lipase activities in the intestine of surviving diabetic rats. The findings revealed that this supplement helped protect the β cells of the rats from death and damage.
