A specific rheumatoid arthritis (RA)-microenvironment-triggered nanocarrier for RA treatment of a first-line antirheumatic drug (Methotrexate, MTX) has been proposed. Reduced glutathione (GSH) responsivity, cystamine, was first introduced on the alginate backbone, which was then used as the bridge to connect pluronic F127 (temperature-responsive factor) and folic acid (targeting factor for active immune cells), resulting in dual-responsive triggered targeting carrier, PCAC-FA. In vitro study demonstrated that PCAC-FA was preferentially taken up by activated macrophage cells rather than normal ones, suggesting the targeting of PCAC-FA to inflamed tissue.

Soil factors, especially metal elements in the soil, play a significant role in forming and accumulating secondary metabolites, which determine the medicinal properties of medicinal herbs. In this study, the concentrations of some metal elements (K, Mn, Fe, Cu, Zn, and Cr) in Cam Mountain and Tinh Bien Town, An Giang Province, Vietnam, were determined using the XRF method. We simultaneously determined the total phenolic and flavonoid content of some medicinal herbs collected from the collected soil sample areas, thereby assessing the influence of these elements on the formation of secondary metabolites in medicinal plants.

Stem cells have significant potential in regenerative medicines. However, a major issue with implanting stem cells in the regeneration of new tissue is the methods to implant them and cell viability and functions before and after implantation. Here we developed a simple yet effective method that used photo-crosslinkable gelatin-based hydrogel (LunaGel) as a scaffold for the encapsulation, expansion, and eventually, transplantation of human umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stem cells (hUC-MSCs) into mice subcutaneously.

The Keap1-Nrf2 pathway is an evolutionarily conserved mechanism that protects cells from oxidative stress and electrophiles. Keap1 is a repressor of Nrf2 in normal cellular conditions but also a stress sensor for Nrf2 activation. Interestingly, fish and amphibians have two Keap1s (Keap1a and Keap1b), of which Keap1b is the ortholog of mammalian Keap1.

Hypervirulent Aeromonas hydrophila (vAh) has emerged as the etiologic agent of epidemic outbreaks of motile septicemia (MAS) in high-density aquaculture of farmed carp in China and catfish in the United States, which has caused millions of tons of lost fish. We conducted a global survey to better understand the evolution, geographical distribution, and phylogeny of vAh. isolates were isolated from fish that showed clinical symptoms of MAS, and pure cultures were screened for the ability to utilize -inositol as the sole carbon source.

Today, stem cell therapy has been shown to be a remarkable progress and an important application in the regeneration of defective tissues and organs. To deliver stem cells to the injured area, several methods have been proposed such as an intravenous infusion, direct damaged tissue injection, or stem cell sheet transplantation. In this study, we aimed to fabricate a stem cell sheet by culturing human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (hUC-MSCs) on a Col-T scaffold to recover the structure and function of damaged tissues.

Tilapia lake virus (TiLV), a major pathogen of farmed tilapia, is known to be vertically transmitted. Here, we hypothesize that Nile tilapia () broodstock immunized with a TiLV inactivated vaccine can mount a protective antibody response and passively transfer maternal antibodies to their fertilized eggs and larvae. To test this hypothesis, three groups of tilapia broodstock, each containing four males and eight females, were immunized with either a heat-killed TiLV vaccine (HKV), a formalin-killed TiLV vaccine (FKV) (both administered at 3.

The protein O-mannosyltransferase catalyzes O-mannosylation in the endoplasmic reticulum by transferring mannose to the seryl or threonyl residues of substrate proteins. We previously reported a deletion mutant of O-mannosyltransferase C (ΔpmtC) in Aspergillus nidulans with impaired vegetative growth and sterigmatocystin (ST) production. In this study, we investigated whether osmotic conditions contribute to the developmental processes and ST biosynthesis of the ΔpmtC deletion mutant.
