The COVID-19 pandemic remains a significant global health threat, with uncertainties persisting regarding the factors determining whether individuals experience mild symptoms, severe conditions, or succumb to the disease. This study presents an NMR metabolomics-based approach, analysing 80 serum and urine samples from COVID-19 patients (34 intensive care patients and 46 hospitalized patients) and 32 from healthy controls. Our research identifies discriminant metabolites and clinical variables relevant to COVID-19 diagnosis and severity.

Our study aims to comment on all ADPKD variants identified in our health area and explain how they are distributed geographically, to identify new variants, and relate the more frequent variants with their renal phenotype in terms of kidney survival. We identified patients suffering from ADPKD in a specialized consultation unit; genealogical trees were constructed from the proband. According to the ultrasound-defined modified Ravine-Pei criteria, relatives classified as at risk were offered participation in the genetic study.

Purpose: We evaluated a modification of automated antibiograms in urine cultures designed to facilitate the early interpretation of minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) and accelerate the targeted treatment of urinary tract infections (UTIs), METHODS: A prospective study was conducted of 309 isolates (219 Enterobacteriaceae, 75 Enterococcus spp., and 15 non-fermenting Gram-negative bacilli (NFGNB), and a retrospective study of 9 carbapenemase-producing clinical isolates from urine cultures. Colonies grown on conventional isolation plates were inoculated in MicroScan Walkaway system panels and incubated for 7 h, using a MicroScan AutoScan-4 plate reader for preliminary MIC determination by turbidimetry.
