Background: Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a leading cause of early post-transplant kidney damage. Furthermore, acute tubular necrosis (ATN) is appointed as the most prevalent form of AKI, a frequent multifactorial process associated with high morbidity and mortality, yet giving rise to delayed graft function (DGF) and, ultimately, allograft dysfunction. Common factors such as prolonged cold ischemia time, advanced donor age, cadaveric versus living donor, donor history of hypertension, as well as donation after cardiac death have all been deemed risk factors for ATN.

Objective: To propose a standardized protocol for peritoneal free fluid and leukocyte sample collection in women with endometriosis suitable for biomedical research on the basis of the surgical procedure, the clinical and technical conditions, and the quality of the samples obtained.
Design: Video showing the step-by-step collection procedure and the suitability of samples obtained for biomedical research.
Subjects: This study included 103 women with confirmed endometriosis by pathology analysis, who signed informed consent and were recruited from the Hospital "Virgen de la Arrixaca", Murcia, Spain.

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are ubiquitous environmental pollutants. Although they are not bioaccumulated in vertebrates, chronic exposures might still derive on serious toxic effects. We studied concentrations of 16 reference PAHs on blubber of two dolphin species (striped dolphin, n = 34; and bottlenose dolphin, n = 8) and one marine turtle (loggerhead turtle, n = 23) from the Mediterranean waters of SE Spain, an important or potential breeding area for these and other related species.

Objective: Succinate and succinate receptor 1 (SUCNR1) are linked to fibrotic remodeling in models of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), but whether they have roles beyond the activation of hepatic stellate cells remains unexplored. We investigated the succinate/SUCNR1 axis in the context of NAFLD specifically in hepatocytes.
Methods: We studied the phenotype of wild-type and Sucnr1 mice fed a choline-deficient high-fat diet to induce non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), and explored the function of SUCNR1 in murine primary hepatocytes and human HepG2 cells treated with palmitic acid.

Background: Although vaccination has considerably reduced the risk of hospitalization and death from COVID19, the impact of vaccination and anti-SARS-CoV-2 antibody status on the outcome of patients who required hospitalization has been poorly investigated.
Material And Methods: A prospective observational study in 232 patients hospitalized for COVID19 was carried out from October 2021 to January 2022 to evaluate the role on patient outcome of their vaccination and anti-SARS-CoV-2 antibody status and titer, comorbidities, analytical determinations, clinical presentation at admission, treatments and requirements for respiratory support. Cox regression and survival analyzes were performed.

Nitric oxide (NO) plays a pivotal role in integrating dopamine transmission in the basal ganglia and has been implicated in the pathogenesis of Parkinson disease (PD). The objective of this study was to ascertain whether the NO synthase inhibitor, 7-nitroindazole (7-NI), is able to reduce L-DOPA-induced dyskinesias (LIDs) in a non-human primate model of PD chronically intoxicated with 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine (MPTP). Six Parkinsonian macaques were treated daily with L-DOPA for 3-4 months until they developed LIDs.

Objective: This study aimed to determine the association between being an evening type (ET; defined subjectively by the Morning-Evening Questionnaire or objectively by the dim-light melatonin onset [DLMO] timing) and reporting emotional eating (EE) behaviors.
Methods: Cross-sectional analyses were conducted in 3964 participants (four international cohorts: ONTIME and ONTIME-MT [both Spain], SHIFT [the US], and DICACEM [Mexico]), in which chronotype (Morning-Evening Questionnaire), EE behaviors (Emotional Eating Questionnaire), and dietary habits (dietary records or food-frequency questionnaire) were assessed. Among 162 participants (ONTIME-MT subsample), additional measures of DLMO (physiological gold standard of circadian phase) were available.

Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the association between siestas/no siestas and obesity, considering siesta duration (long: >30 minutes, short: ≤30 minutes), and test whether siesta traits and/or lifestyle factors mediate the association of siestas with obesity and metabolic syndrome (MetS).
Methods: This was a cross-sectional study of 3275 adults from a Mediterranean population (the Obesity, Nutrigenetics, TIming, and MEditerranean [ONTIME] study) who had the opportunity of taking siestas because it is culturally embedded.
Results: Thirty-five percent of participants usually took siestas (16% long siestas).

In this regard, taking into consideration that these by-products retain the dietary fibre compositions and the bioactive compounds of the starting materials, plant food agro-industries have an interest in taking advantage of them, from a nutritional point of view.
