Extracellular vesicles (EVs) released from primary cell lines, originating from resected tissues during biopsies in patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) revealing adenocarcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma subtypes, were examined for membrane proteomic fingerprints using a proximity barcoding assay. All the collected EVs expressed canonical tetraspanins (CD9, CD63, and CD81) highly coexpressed with molecules such as lysosome-associated membrane protein-1 (LAMP1-CD107a), sialomucin core protein 24 (CD164), Raph blood group (CD151), and integrins (ITGB1 and ITGA2). This representation of the protein molecules on the EV surface may provide valuable information on NSCLC subtypes and offer new diagnostic opportunities as next-generation biomarkers in personalized oncology.

Insulin aggregation poses a significant problem in pharmacology and medicine as it occurs during prolonged storage of the hormone and at insulin injection sites. We have recently shown that dominant forces driving the self-assembly of insulin fibrils are likely to arise from intermolecular interactions involving the N-terminal segment of the A-chain (ACC). Here, we study how proline substitutions within the pilot GIVEQ sequence of this fragment affect its propensity to aggregate in both neutral and acidic environments.

This study reports a comprehensive analysis of photoautotrophic euglenids' distribution and biodiversity in 16 small water bodies of various types (including fish ponds, field ponds, rural ponds and park ponds) located in three regions of Poland: Masovia, Masuria and Pomerania during a period of three years. By employing a euglenid specific barcode marker and a curated database of V2 18S rDNA sequences it was possible to identify 97.7 % of euglenid reads at species level.

Form factors based on aspherical models of atomic electron density have brought great improvement in the accuracies of hydrogen atom parameters derived from X-ray crystal structure refinement. Today, two main groups of such models are available, the banks of transferable atomic densities parametrized using the Hansen-Coppens multipole model which allows for rapid evaluation of atomic form factors and Hirshfeld atom refinement (HAR)-related methods which are usually more accurate but also slower. In this work, a model that combines the ideas utilized in the two approaches is tested.

A series of 10 cyclic, biaryl analogs of enkephalin, with Tyr or Phe residues at positions 1 and 4, were synthesized according to the Miyaura borylation and Suzuki coupling methodology. Here, we explore the dynamics of coupled phase and conformational transitions of model adenosine triphosphate (ATP)-binding peptides, ACCK, consisting of the potent amyloidogenic fragment of insulin's A-chain (ACC) merged with oligolysine segments of various lengths (K, = 16, 24, 40). The self-assembly of ATP-stabilized amyloid fibrils is preceded by LLPS for peptides with sufficiently long oligolysine segments.

This study introduces a simplified purification method for analyzing Se/Se isotope ratios in diverse natural samples using hydride generation MC-ICP-MS. Unlike the thiol resin method, which is time-consuming and sensitive to the concentrations of reagents used at individual stages, our proposed alternative is quicker, simpler, and robust. The procedure involves coprecipitation of selenium with iron hydroxide and dissolution in hydrochloric acid.

Applications of 9-aminoacridine (9aa) and its derivatives span fields such as chemistry, biology, and medicine, including anticancer and antimicrobial activities. Protonation of such molecules can alter their bioavailability as weakly basic drugs like aminoacridines exhibit reduced solubility at high pH levels potentially limiting their effectiveness in patients with elevated gastric pH. Anion templation strategies have facilitated the synthesis of various catenane and rotaxane hosts capable of strong and selective binding of anions in competitive solvents. Herein we describe a new photosynthetic euglenoid species found in Poland - Euglena mazurica. A large population exists in a small, eutrophic body of water located in a pasture near Mikołajki town inside the Masurian Landscape Park (covering a part of the Masurian Lake District in Poland). The unique cell shape (corkscrew-like) discerns it well from other previously described euglenoid species with metabolic cells.

The Coulomb potential maps generated by electron microscopy (EM) experiments contain not only information about the position but also about the charge state of the atom. This feature of EM maps allows the identification of specific ions and the protonation state of amino acid side chains in the sample. Here, we summarize qualitative observations of charges in EM maps, discuss the difficulties in interpreting the charge in Coulomb potential maps with respect to distinguishing it from radiation damage, and outline considerations to implement the correct charge in fitting algorithms.

Electrospun nanofibers were used to support palladium nanocubes, resulting in a highly active, stable, and reusable catalyst. The system proposed herein offers significant advantages compared to catalysts in the form of nanoparticles suspension. The porous, solvent permeable structure of the nanofiber mat ensures uniform and stable time distribution of palladium nanoparticles; preventing coalescence and allowing multiple use of the catalyst.
