Background: This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of polydopamine (PDA) functionalization on orthodontic brackets in inhibiting biofilm formation and promoting surface bioactivity to buffer the acidity of caries-causing bacteria around orthodontic brackets and prevent demineralization. The stability of the coating in artificial saliva (AS) and distilled water was evaluated, along with its effect on pH changes in simulated body fluid (SBF) and distilled water.
Methods: Maxillary incisor orthodontic brackets underwent PDA functionalization using a dopamine hydrochloride solution following a specific protocol.

Background: Clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) is the most common histologic type of RCC. However, the spatial and functional heterogeneity of immunosuppressive cells and the mechanisms by which their interactions promote immunosuppression in the ccRCC have not been thoroughly investigated.
Methods: To further investigate the cellular and regional heterogeneity of ccRCC, we analyzed single-cell and spatial transcriptome RNA sequencing data from four patients, which were obtained from samples from multiple regions, including the tumor core, tumor-normal interface, and distal normal tissue.

Intraepidermal squamous neoplasia is a precursor to invasive cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma. The most common type of intraepidermal squamous neoplasia is actinic keratosis (AK), although there is compelling clinicopathological evidence of a second distinct pattern of squamous dysplasia termed Bowen disease (BD). The distinction between these pathways of dysplasia has been inconsistently delineated in the literature.

Transgenerational plasticity (TGP) has largely focused on how parental exposure to ecological conditions shapes the phenotypes of future generations. However, organisms acquire information about their ecological environment via social learning, which can also shape TGP in profound ways. We demonstrate that non-parents alter how parents detect and respond to environmental cues in ways that spillover to affect offspring, non-parents influence offspring even without direct physical interactions, and parental cues received by offspring can alter the phenotypes of other juveniles.

Chimeric antigen receptor (CAR)-T cell therapy has transformed the treatment landscape for hematological cancers. However, achieving comparable success in solid tumors remains challenging. Factors contributing to these limitations include the scarcity of tumor-specific antigens (TSAs), insufficient CAR-T cell infiltration, and the immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment (TME).

Protein quality control (PQC) mechanisms including the ubiquitin (Ub)-proteasome system (UPS), autophagy, and chaperone-mediated refolding are essential to maintain protein homeostasis in cells. Recent studies show that these PQC mechanisms are further modulated by biomolecular condensates that sequester PQC components and compartmentalize reactions. Accumulating evidence points towards the PQC machinery playing a pivotal role in regulating the assembly, disassembly, and viscoelastic properties of several condensates.

Metabolic reprogramming is a hallmark of cancer, crucial for malignant transformation and metastasis. Chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL) and prostate cancer exhibit similar metabolic adaptations, particularly in glucose and lipid metabolism. Understanding this metabolic plasticity is crucial for identifying mechanisms contributing to metastasis.

This study investigates essential (Mg, Ca, Fe, Mn, Cu, Zn, Se, Ni) and non-essential (Li, Be, Cr, Rb, Sr, Cs, Cd, Sn, Ba, and Pb) element concentrations and stable isotope (δC, δN, δS) compositions in feathers of Brown Boobies (Sula leucogaster) from three distinct Atlantic islands: the Archipelagos of Saint Peter and Saint Paul (SPSP), Abrolhos, and Cagarras. We aimed to investigate the ecological and environmental factors influencing these seabird populations and assess potential variations in contaminant exposure and dietary habits based on location, sex, and maturity stages. Our finding revealed significant geographical differences in trace element concentrations.

Oxidative stress caused by reactive oxygen species (ROS) and superoxides is linked to various cancer-related biological events. Extracellular superoxide dismutase (SOD3), an antioxidant enzyme that removes superoxides, contributes to redox homeostasis and has the potential to regulate tumorigenesis. Histone deacetylase 6 (HDAC6), a major HDAC isoform responsible for mediating the deacetylation of non-histone protein substrates, also plays a role in cancer progression.

Spatial transcriptomics has significantly advanced the measurement of spatial gene expression in the field of biology. However, the high cost of ST limits its application in large-scale studies. Using deep learning to predict spatial gene expression from H&E-stained histology images offers a more cost-effective alternative, but existing methods fail to fully leverage the multimodal information provided by Spatial transcriptomics and pathology images.

In the realm of therapeutic antibodies, co-formulations comprising two or more monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) have emerged as a promising strategy, offering enhanced treatment efficacy, improved efficiency, and prolonged intellectual property protection. These advantages have sparked significant interest among both patients and pharmaceutical companies. However, the quantification and analysis of individual mAbs within such co-formulations pose a substantial challenge due to their similar physicochemical properties.

Kisspeptins function as endogenous ligands for the G protein-coupled receptor GPR54. While the primary role of the Kisspeptin/GPR54 signaling pathway pertains to reproduction, several studies have shown that GPR54 is highly expressed in breast cancer, and we further confirmed this result that GPR54 expression is significantly upregulated in breast cancer cells. Based on this finding, we developed a liposomal drug delivery system utilizing the Kisspeptin/GPR54 system to treat breast cancer after confirming the safety of Kp-10-228.

The selection and expression of conspicuous colorations in animals is often related to anti-predation strategies and sociosexual communication. The giant river prawn, Macrobrachium rosenbergii (de Man, 1879) is a species with three male morphotypes that vary in claws' coloration and the size of the animals. It has been suggested that male reproductive quality might be associated to their coloration, but evidence is still conflicting.

Six previously undescribed spiromeroterpenoids, chermesins I-N (1-6), were isolated and identified from the marine-sourced fungus Penicillium chermesinum AS-400. Their structures were determined by nuclear magnetic resonance and mass spectroscopic data, and the relative and absolute configurations were confirmed based on nuclear Overhauser effect spectroscopic experiments, electronic circular dichroism (ECD) calculations and X-ray crystallographic analysis, and by comparisons of ECD Cotton effects with those of known congeners as well. Structurally, compound 1 represents the first example of spiromeroterpenoid demethylated at C-4.

Motivation: The increasing availability of electronic health record (EHR) systems has created enormous potential for translational research. Recent developments in representation learning techniques have led to effective large-scale representations of EHR concepts along with knowledge graphs that empower downstream EHR studies. However, most existing methods require training with patient-level data, limiting their abilities to expand the training with multi-institutional EHR data.
