The present study aimed to evaluate the health-promoting potential of breadfruit ( (Parkinson) Fosberg, Moraceae family), a traditional Comorian food, considering the sample variability according to geographic localisation. Moreover, the main aims of this research were also to promote its consumption in the Comoros Islands as potential health-promoting food and evaluate it as a source of bioactive molecules for the food industry thanks to its antioxidant and antibacterial properties. A key open issue in condensed-matter physics is how quantum and classical correlations emerge in an unconventional superconductor from the underlying normal state. We study this problem in a doped Mott insulator with information-theory tools on the two-dimensional (2D) Hubbard model at finite temperature with cluster dynamical mean-field theory. We find that the local entropy detects the superconducting state and that the difference in the local entropy between the superconducting and normal states follows the same difference in the potential energy.

Flexible and porous 2D layered structures based on mixed-linker metal-organic frameworks for gas sorption studies.

Layered structures of flexible mixed-linker metal-organic frameworks termed IRHs-(4 and 5) (IRH = Institut de Recherche sur l'Hydrogène) were synthesized by mixing cyclam, tetrakis(4-carboxyphenyl)benzene (TCPB), and copper and zinc metal salts respectively. The new materials characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction exhibited the features of HOFs and MOFs. Their structures are formed by coordination and hydrogen bonds that link metallocyclam (with Cu or Zn) and TCPB to a 2D sheet which is further packed to form a 3D structure with 1D microchannels.

The synthesis of two isomeric testosterone dimers and an androstenedione dimer is reported. The design takes advantage of an efficient transformation of testosterone leading to the synthesis of the key diene, 7α-(buta-1,3-dienyl)-4-androsten-17β-ol-3-one, through an elimination reaction. It was found that in some instances the same reaction led to partial epimerization of the 17β-hydroxyl group into the 17α-hydroxyl group.

Thermus thermophilus laccase belongs to the sub-class of multicopper oxidases that is activated by the extra binding of copper to a methionine-rich domain allowing an electron pathway from the substrate to the conventional first electron acceptor, the T1 Cu. In this work, two key amino acid residues in the 1st and 2nd coordination spheres of T1 Cu are mutated in view of tuning their redox potential and investigating their influence on copper-related activity. Evolution of the kinetic parameters after copper addition highlights that both mutations play a key role influencing the enzymatic activity in distinct unexpected ways.

Forensic investigations of single and mass graves often use surface anomalies, including changes to soil and vegetation conditions, to identify potential grave locations. Though numerous resources describe surface anomalies in grave detection, few studies formally investigate the rate at which the surface anomalies return to a natural state; hence, the period the grave is detectable to observers. Understanding these processes can provide guidance as to when ground searches will be an effective strategy for locating graves.

Three new lanthanide metal-organic frameworks IRHs-() supported by cyamelurate linkers have been synthesized and structurally characterized. The incorporation of numerous heteroatoms (N and O) into the pore walls and the relatively small microchannels of these porous solids enhance bonding force of the host-guest interactions, thus promoting the adsorption of carbon dioxide (CO) over methane (CH). The nonpolar covalent bonds in methane also favor the less uptake due to the hydrophilic walls of these frameworks.

REST[ES] is the first Canadian human taphonomic facility (HTF) dedicated to research and training relating to human decomposition in a northern temperate climate. The following paper outlines the measures taken to successfully establish, open and operate this novel Canadian HTF with particular focus on: project team and partnerships, facility location, approvals and permits, infrastructure and social acceptability. It is intended that our experience of establishing REST[ES] may serve as an example to help others with the establishment of future HTFs, thus contributing to the expansion in the global accessibility to human decomposition research and training.
