Lung cancer remains the leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide, with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) accounting for the vast majority. In recent years, the interaction between inflammation and tumorigenesis has become the focus of attention, which has also confirmed the importance of inflammatory markers such as C-reactive protein (CRP) in prognosis. In this study, we explored the effects of CRP, systemic inflammatory immune index (SII), and monocyte/lymphocyte ratio (MLR) on the prognosis of patients with advanced NSCLC.

Berberine alleviates endothelial glycocalyx degradation and promotes glycocalyx restoration in LPS-induced ARDS.

Int Immunopharmacol

December 2018

Department of Cell Biology, Binzhou Medical University, Yantai 264003, Shandong Province, China. Electronic address:

In the pathogenesis of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), an increase in vascular endothelial permeability may trigger pulmonary edema and ultimately lead to respiratory failure. Endothelial glycocalyx damage is an important factor that causes an increase in vascular endothelial permeability. Berberine (BBR) is an isoquinoline alkaloid extracted from Coptis chinensis, a plant used in traditional Chinese medicine that exerts multiple pharmacological effects.

Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is a syndrome of acute respiratory failure characterized by major pathologic mechanisms of increased microvascular permeability and inflammation. The glycocalyx lines on the endothelial surface, which determines the vascular permeability, and heparanase play pivotal roles in the degradation of heparan sulfate (HS). HS is the major component of the glycocalyx.

Profile of GABAergic interneuron activity after pilocarpine-induced status epilepticus (SE) was examined in the rat hippocampal dentate gyrus by analyzing immediate early gene expression and recording spontaneous firing at near resting membrane potential (REM). SE for exact 2 h or more than 2 h was induced in the male Sprague-Dawley rats by an intraperitoneal injection of pilocarpine. Expression of immediate early genes (IEGs) was examined at 1 h, 1 week, 2 weeks or more than 10 weeks after SE.

Aims: To evaluate the expression and clinical significance of PI3Kp110α and PI3Kp110β in colorectal conventional adenoma, serrated lesions and adenoma with canceration.

Methods And Results: Immunohistochemistry and Western blot analysis were conducted to detect the expression of p110α and p110β in normal colorectal tissues, conventional adenoma, serrated lesions and adenoma canceration. Results revealed that the expression of P110α and P110β in the adenoma canceration was significantly higher than that in normal tissues, tubular adenoma (low grade) and tubular-villous adenoma (low grade) of conventional adenoma, hyperplastic polyps of serrated lesions (P<0.

The aim of this study was to assess the effects of hydrogen sulfide on high glucose-induced mouse podocyte (MPC) injury and the underlying mechanisms. Mouse podocytes were randomly divided into 4 groups, including high glucose (HG), normal glucose (NG), normal glucose + DL-propargylglycine (PPG), and high glucose + NaHS (HG + NaHS) groups for treatment. Then, ZO-2, nephrin, β-catenin, and cystathionine γ-lyase (CSE) protein expression levels were determined by western blot.

Int J Clin Exp Pathol

May 2016

Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, School of Stomatology, Shandong University Jinan 250012, China.

Glycoprotein (transmembrane) nonmetastatic melanoma protein b (GPNMB) plays crucial roles in odontogenesis. However, the role of GPNMB in human dental pulp cells (hDPCs) is still unclear. Therefore, in this study, we investigated the expression and function of the GPNMB in odontoblastic differentiation of hDPCs.

Deregulated microRNAs (miRNAs) have been shown to play important roles in cancer progression as a result of changes in expression of their target genes. In this study, we investigated the expression of miR-16b in eight hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) cell lines, revealed the roles of miR-26b on hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) cell proliferation, migration, and invasion, and confirmed that EphA2 is a direct target of miR-26b. The miR-26b expression was decreased and EphA2 expression was evaluated in HCC cell lines.

Autophagy is related to cancer and other diseases, and compromised autophagy could promote chromosome instability associated with carcinogenesis and tumor progression. The role of autophagy in the growth and metastasis of colorectal cancer (CRC) remains poorly understood. Beclin1 mediates autophagic initiation, and LC3 is a specific marker for autophagy.

Pancreata from Sprague Dawley rats of different developmental stages were studied to determine the expression and cellular localization of different c-MET isoforms in the developing rat pancreas. Pancreatic mRNA and protein expression levels of c-MET at different developmental stages from embryo to adult were detected by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction and by western blotting. To identify the cellular localization of c-MET protein in the developing rat pancreas, double immunofluorescent staining was performed using antibodies for cell type-specific markers and for c-MET.

The phosphoinositide 3-kinases (PI3Ks) are a critical family of signaling enzymes that participate in many cellular processes that promote the transformation of a normal cell into a cancer cell. These processes include cancer cell proliferation, migration, and invasion. However, the correlation between PI3Ks and multidrug resistance (MDR) remains unclear.
