Article Synopsis
  • This study explores the creation of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) using a methanolic leaf extract from Patchouli, demonstrating its effectiveness as a reducing agent that facilitates nanoparticle formation within one hour.
  • Characterization techniques revealed that the synthesized AgNPs are predominantly spherical with an average size of 25 nm and exhibit strong antibacterial, antioxidant, and anticancer properties against several human pathogens and cancer cells.
  • The research highlights AgNPs as more effective than the methanolic extract alone, showing significant potential for use in medical applications due to their ability to decrease cancer cell viability and scavenge free radicals effectively.

Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are a class of non-coding RNAs that participate in various biological processes and disease pathogenesis. However, the role of circRNAs in chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) remains largely unknown. In this study, high-throughput sequencing was performed to explore the expression profile of circRNAs in CML patients for the first time, and a large number of differentially expressed circRNAs were identified.

miR-205-5p inhibits cell migration and invasion in prostatic carcinoma by targeting ZEB1.

Oncol Lett

August 2018

Department of Urological Surgery, People's Hospital of Dongying District, Dongying, Shandong 257000, P.R. China.

Many studies have demonstrated that miRNAs have influence on tumorigenesis and progression of human cancers, including invasion and migration. Thus, the role of miR-205/ZEB1 axis for the migration and invasion of prostate cancer cells was explored in the present study. The miR-205-5p and zinc finger E-box binding homeobox 1 (ZEB1) mRNA expression levels were observed in prostate cancer tissues or cell lines via reverse transcription-quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR), and the protein level of ZEB1 was measured by western blotting.

Mol Med Rep

July 2018

Department of Respiratory Medicine, Shandong Provincial Qianfoshan Hospital, Shandong University, Jinan, Shandong 250014, P.R. China.

The present study aimed to investigate the effect of lysine‑specific demethylase 2 (LSD2) in small cell lung cancer (SCLC) and explore its underlying regulatory mechanism. Cell growth was tested by MTT assay and mRNA and protein expression was determined by quantitative polymerase chain reaction (q‑PCR) and western blot analysis, respectively. Chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP) was used to investigate the degree of H3K4me2 enrichment in the promoter region of tissue factor pathway inhibitor‑2 (TFPI‑2).

MicroRNAs are essential regulators of cancer-associated genes at the posttranscriptional level, and their expression is altered in cancer tissues. Herein we sought to identify the regulation of miR-615-3p in NSCLC progression and its mechanism. miR-615-3p expression was significantly downregulated in NSCLC tissue compared to control normal tissue.

Evolution of correlation between infection and autoimmune liver disease.

Exp Ther Med

August 2017

Department of Gastroenterology, Binzhou Central Hospital, Binzhou, Shandong 256603, P.R. China.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to examine the link between Helicobacter pylori (HP) infection and autoimmune liver disease (AILD) in 60 patients treated at Binzhou Medical College.
  • It found that 61.67% of patients had a positive HP infection, which correlated with higher rates of certain immune antibodies (like ANA, AMA, etc.) compared to patients without HP.
  • Additionally, patients with positive HP infections had significantly elevated levels of specific cytokines, suggesting a strong relationship between HP infection and autoimmune responses in AILD, although liver function levels remained similar across both groups.

Nrf2 suppresses the function of dendritic cells to facilitate the immune escape of glioma cells.

Exp Cell Res

November 2017

Department of Neurosurgery, The Affiliated Xuzhou Hospital of Medical College, Southeast University, Xuzhou, Jiangsu 221009, China. Electronic address:

Nrf2 is presented in dendritic cells (DCs) and contributes to the maintenance of redox homeostasis. However, the expression pattern and function of Nrf2 in the maturation of DCs in the glioma-infiltrated microenvironment remain unrevealed. Our study aims to investigate the roles of Nrf2 in glioma cell-tamed DCs and their impact on the downstream T cell proliferation and cytotoxicity to glioma cells.

Previously, we only apply a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) Danshen-Chuanxiong-Honghua (DCH) for cardioprotection via anti-inflammation in rats of acute myocardial infarction by occluding coronary artery. Presently, we select not only DCH but also its main absorbed compound ferulic acid (FA) for cerebra protection via similar action of mechanism above in animals of the transient middle cerebral artery occlusion (tMCAO). We investigated whether oral administration of DCH and FA could ameliorate MCAO-induced brain lesions in animals.
