Background: Gliomas is a major challenge of current medical system, and thousands of people are struggling in the pain of this disease worldwide. In the last decade, the functions of miRNAs have been revealed by many studies, and the intervention on miRNA dysfunctions has been thought as a promising way to counter cancer. MiR-493-5p has been identified as a tumor inhibitor to suppress the progressions of several tumors while its role in gliomas remains unknown.

Ultrafine particles (UFPs) referred to particular matters with aerosol diameter less than 100 nm. Because of the lightweight and small size, UFPs have become an occupational inhalation risk. The UFPs will be accumulated in the deep lung through inhalation, and then reach into all the organs via circulation system; some UFPs even stay in the brain.

What Is Known And Objective: This study aimed to explore the effect of sulfotanshinone sodium injection combined with tirofiban on vascular endothelial function and indicators of plaque stability in elderly patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS).
Methods: We designed a prospective study and enrolled 169 patients with ACS who were admitted to our hospital as subjects. Patients treated with sulfotanshinone sodium injection combined with tirofiban (n = 99) were allocated to the research group (RG), and the remaining patients treated with tirofiban alone were allocated to the control group (n = 70; CG).

Purpose: This retrospective study aimed to determine the prognostic factors associated with overall survival after intracranial local and distant recurrence in patients undergoing stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) for brain metastases.
Patients And Methods: Clinical characteristics and therapeutic parameters of 251 patients, who were treated with initial stereotactic radiosurgery for brain metastases and later experienced intracranial recurrence, were analyzed to identify prognostic factors of post-recurrence overall survival (PROS). A Cox proportional hazard model was applied for univariate and multivariate analyses.

Trends of early expression levels of heat shock protein 70 (Hsp70) and Annexin A1 (ANXA1) in serum of patients with acutely severe traumatic brain injury and the effects on clinical prognosis were investigated. Eighty-four patients with severe traumatic brain injury admitted to Binzhou Center Hospital from June 2014 to July 2017 were selected as the experimental group. Glasgow coma scale and acute physiology and chronic health evaluation II (APACHE II) score were obtained after admission.

Oxidative stress is closely associated to the onset and progression of many human diseases. Activation of the nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2)/antioxidant response element (ARE) signaling pathway using naturally-derived molecules is an efficient strategy for alleviating the intracellular oxidative insults, and thus blocking the pathogenesis of oxidative stress-induced diseases. In the present study, a naturally-derived isopimarane-type diterpenoid sphaeropsidin C (SC) was identified to be an activator of Nrf2/ARE signaling pathway.

The present study was aimed to investigate the effect of 2-amino-4-(1-piperidine) pyridine on migration and invasion of colon cancer cells. Treatment of colon cancer cells with 2-amino-4-(1-piperidine) pyridine reduced viability in concentration-based manner. The migration potential of HCT116 and HT29 cells was also suppressed on treatment with 2-amino-4-(1-piperidine) pyridine.

Background: Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) leads to poor pregnancy outcomes. Strategies that improve trophoblast cell function are important methods for GDM treatment. This study aimed to investigate the expression and diagnostic potential of microRNA-132 (miR-132) in GDM patients, and further analyzed the effects of miR-132 on HTR-8/SVneo cell proliferation.

Nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) plays a key role in redox homeostasis. Activation of Nrf2 pathway by natural molecules effectively inhibits oxidants and toxicants-induced redox imbalance, and thus is able to intervene the onset and progression of many human diseases. In our previous study, a chalcone named as artocarmitin B (ACB), formed by artocarmitin A (ACA) and a trans-feruloyl substituent, was found to be a potential Nrf2 activator.

Objectives: The purpose of this research was to study the outcome of brain metastases in a cohort of patients undergoing a second course of stereotactic image-guided robotic radiosurgery and to identify predictors corelated with survival.
Methods: A total of 63 patients with primary malignancies underwent a second course of CyberKnife radiosurgery for intracranial progression, including recurrence and new metastases after initial stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS). Overall survival (OS) and control rate were calculated by the Kaplan-Meier method.

The level of of procalcitonin (PCT) and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) in the acute exacerbation of COPD (AECOPD) was investigated. Total of 20 patients with acute exacerbation of COPD who were admitted to the Department of Respiratory Medicine, Binzhou Center Hospital in the period of October 2012 to April 2015 were enrolled in the AECOPD group. According to the color of the sputum, the patients with AECOPD were divided into purulent sputum group (n=8) and non-purulent sputum group (n=12).

Breast cancer is the most common cause of death among women. KIF3C, a member of kinesin superfamily, functions as a motor protein involved in axonal transport in neuronal cells. To explore the expression, regulation and mechanism of KIF3C in breast cancer, 4 breast cancer cell lines and 93 cases of primary breast cancer and paired adjacent tissues were examined.
