Colorectal cancer poses a significant global health challenge, with a considerable proportion arising from colon adenomas. Understanding the molecules involved in the carcinogenesis process is crucial for improving colon cancer diagnosis and prognosis. While research on the role of epiplakin in cancer remains limited compared to other plakin group proteins, comprehending its expression patterns and correlations can offer valuable insights into colon carcinogenesis.

Background: JAK/STAT signaling plays an important role in regulating cell proliferation. Reducing proliferation and inducing cell death with gene-specific inhibitors such as ruxolitinib, Receptor tyrosine kinases (RTK) inhibitor targeting JAK1/2, are therapeutic approaches. The use of nanoparticles can reduce the toxicity and side effects of drugs, as they act directly on cancer cells and can selectively increase drug accumulation in tumor cells.

Overexpression of permeability-glycoprotein (P-gp) transporter leads to multidrug resistance (MDR) through cellular exclusion of chemotherapeutics. Co-administration of P-gp inhibitors and chemotherapeutics is a promising approach for improving the efficacy of therapy. Nevertheless, problems in pharmacokinetics, toxicity and solubility limit the application of P-gp inhibitors.

Objective: Long-term exposure to arsenic has been linked to several illnesses, including hypertension, diabetes, hepatic and renal diseases and cardiovascular malfunction. The aim of the current investigation was to determine whether zingerone (ZN) could shield rats against the hepatotoxicity that sodium arsenite (SA) causes.

Methods: The following five groups of thirty-five male Sprague Dawley rats were created: I) Control; received normal saline, II) ZN; received ZN, III) SA; received SA, IV) SA + ZN 25; received 10 mg/kg body weight SA + 25 mg/kg body weight ZN, and V) SA + ZN 50; received 10 mg/kg body weight SA + 50 mg/kg body weight ZN.

In this study, a quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) aptasensor for carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), a well-known biomarker for various cancer types, was reported, utilizing two different aptamers. To achieve this, a nanofilm of 4-mercaptophenyl was electrochemically attached to gold-coated QCM crystal surfaces via the reduction of 4-mercaptobenzenediazonium salt (4 MB-DAT) using cyclic voltammetry. Subsequently, gold nanoparticles (AuNP) were affixed to this structure, and then aptamers (antiCEA1 and antiCEA2) modified with SH-functional ends bound to AuNPs completed the modification.

The viable but non-culturable (VBNC) state is considered a survival strategy employed by bacteria to endure stressful conditions, allowing them to stay alive. Bacteria in this state remain unnoticed in live cell counts as they cannot proliferate in standard culture media. VBNC cells pose a significant health risk because they retain their virulence and can revive when conditions normalize.
