Self-management interventions for men with lower urinary tract symptoms: A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.

Introduction: Lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) significantly impact men's quality of life and can cause bothersome symptoms, which often interfere with daily functioning and contribute to psychological distress. While pharmacological and surgical treatments are effective, they can have side effects, and not all men require or desire these interventions. The aim of this study is to assess the impact of self-management interventions on symptom severity.

Analysis of gene variants in familial and non-familial primary open angle glaucoma Pakistani patients.

Aim: To find out the association of secreted protein acidic and rich in cysteine (SPARC)-related modular calcium binding 2 () gene variants rs2255680 and rs13208776 with genotypic and phenotypic characteristics in both familial and non-familial primary open angle glaucoma (POAG) patients.

Methods: A total of 212 POAG patients, comprising 124 familial and 88 non-familial, were enrolled. For genotyping the variant rs2255680, amplification refractory mutation system (ARMS)-polymerase chain reaction (PCR) method and PCR-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) were utilized for analyzing rs13208776 variant.

PREVALENCE OF EXHUMATION IN DISTRICT HYDERABAD: A LOCAL EXPERIENCE.

Background: Exhumation of bodies for forensic purposes serves as a pivotal tool in medico-legal investigations, yet there is scant data on the practice within the Pakistani context, particularly in the District of Hyderabad. Aim & Objective were to investigate the prevalence and outcomes of exhumations in Hyderabad, contributing to the knowledge base and understanding the cultural and legal factors influencing post-mortem examinations.

Methods: A descriptive, observational, and retrospective analysis of 95 medicolegal exhumations carried out over two years, examining demographic data, the interval between death and exhumation, putrefactive changes, and the determination of the cause of death.

Living biodrugs and how tissue source influences mesenchymal stem cell therapeutics for heart failure.

In this editorial we comment on the article by Safwan M . We especially focused on the cardiac function restoration by the use of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) therapy for heart failure (HF), which has emerged as a new treatment approach as "Living Biodrugs". HF remains a significant clinical challenge due to the heart's inability to pump blood effectively, despite advancements in medical and device-based therapies.

Vascular endothelial growth factor/platelet ratio as a potential biomarker for preeclampsia: A study of angiogenic markers in Pakistani patients.

Objectives: To determine the levels of angiogenic biomarkers: vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), soluble vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 1 (sVEGFR1 or sFlt-1), platelet count, and the VEGF/platelet ratio in preeclampsia.

Evaluating efficacy and safety of laser interstitial thermal therapy in patients with newly diagnosed and recurrent glioblastoma: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Glioblastoma (GB), the most common malignant brain tumour, has a poor prognosis despite advances in treatment. Standard management involves surgery followed by chemoradiotherapy. MRI-guided laser interstitial thermal therapy (LITT) is a minimally invasive technique that may offer an option for select patients with specific clinical profiles.

Introduction: Coronaviruses, a family of enveloped RNA viruses, have been implicated in various clinical disorders including coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Host genetic factors, including the OAS1 and MxA gene variants may have a role in determining susceptibility to viral infections. Introduction: Iron deficiency anemia (IDA) is the most prevalent diet-related disorder and mainly affects women and children. To determine the trend of anemia incidence in Pakistan, a current review was carried out. This review aimed to estimate the prevalence of anemia among pregnant women and adult/adolescent nonpregnant women in Pakistan and to provide a 15-year trend analysis.

Gene-gene and gene-environmental interaction of dopaminergic system genes in Pakistani children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.

Background: Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder influenced by genetic and environmental factors. This study examined the specific gene variants, dopamine transporter 1 (DAT1) rs6350, dopamine receptor D3 (DRD3) rs6280, dopamine receptor D2 (DRD2) rs6277, and catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT) rs4633, in relation to ADHD among Pakistani children by exploring the potential gene-gene and gene-environment interactions.

Methods: A total of 100 cases of ADHD and 100 healthy children were recruited.

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a prevalent chronic functional gastrointestinal disorder, characterised by recurrent abdominal discomfort and altered bowel movements. IBS cause a significantly negative impact on quality of life (QoL). Growing pharmacological evidence suggests that berberine (BBR) and curcumin (CUR) may mitigate IBS symptoms through multiple complementary synergistic mechanisms, resulting in the attenuation of intestinal inflammation and regulation of bowel motility and gut functions.

Vulnerability, Preparedness, and Previous Experience of Disasters Among the Population of a High Hazard Region-Rural Southern Sindh, Pakistan.

A cross-sectional, mixed-method study was conducted in Badin, a rural area in southern Sindh, which is considered a high-risk disaster zone, to assess the vulnerability, preparedness, and disaster experiences of the coastal population. A multistage sampling technique was employed to select the villages, study area, and 3 distinct populations (I, II, and III). Family heads of households were recruited for population I, village heads for population II, and community support group leaders from selected clusters for population III.

Decoding the DSCC1 gene as a pan-cancer biomarker in human cancers via comprehensive multi-omics analyses.

Objectives: While dysregulation of DSCC1 (DNA Replication And Sister Chromatid Cohesion 1) has been established in breast cancer and colorectal cancer, its associations with other tumors remain unclear. Therefore, this study was launched to explore the role of DSCC1 in pan-cancer.

Methodology: In this study, we investigate the biological functions of DSCC1 across 33 solid tumors, elucidating its role in promoting oncogenesis and progression in various cancers through comprehensive analysis of multi-omics data.

Pakistani Ankylosing Spondylitis Cohort with modifiable cardiovascular risk factors (PAS-CVD) study.

Objective: To determine the frequency of modifiable cardiovascular risk factors in the Pakistani cohort with Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS).

Method: After IRB approval, a cross-sectional study was conducted among patients of AS, at the Department of Rheumatology Indus Medical College, Tando Mohammad Khan, from 15 March to 15 September, 2022. After obtaining demographic data, other parameters such as blood pressure (BP) and body mass index were recorded.

Objective: To perform ultrasound examination in un-resolving frozen shoulder disorder, in Pakistani cohort visiting rheumatology clinic.

Methods: This cross sectional study was carried out at Department of Rheumatology, Indus Medical College Tando Mohhamad Khan, from 16 March 2022 to 30 October 2022. Patients diagnosed as unilateral frozen shoulder on clinical grounds and received intra-articular injection (s) in last six months, never been investigated, still persisting with pain and restricted range of shoulder motion were enrolled.

What You See Is Not What You Get: Frontal Sinus Metastasis From the Renal Cell Carcinoma.

Metastatic neoplasms occurring in the nasal and paranasal sinuses are infrequent occurrences. In this study, we present one such case of a 61-year-old male patient with a known clear cell renal carcinoma presenting to us with signs and symptoms of acute sinusitis. The patient subsequently underwent CT and MRI examinations, which revealed a neoplastic mass in the right frontal sinus, which was surgically resected and was later confirmed histologically as a metastatic deposit from clear cell renal carcinoma.
