Introduction Genetic factors significantly contribute to the progression of diabetic kidney disease (DKD), which is one of the world's most common causes of chronic kidney disease (CKD). Inflammation, glucose homeostasis, and lipid metabolism are all significantly influenced by the liver X receptor alpha (LXR-α) gene. Single nucleotide polymorphisms in the liver X receptor alpha gene may result in the altered function of the gene, making the individual susceptible to DKD.

Background: Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a significant mental condition characterized by the presence of obsessions and compulsions. Mental compulsions are defined as compulsions with no overt behavioral or motoric symptoms, such as repeating certain words or phrases in the mind. The exact prevalence of mental compulsions could be underestimated due to measurement issues using the Y-BOCS (Yale-Brown Obsessive Compulsive Scale) and its clinical characteristics.

Background Primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) is a progressive optic neuropathy characterized by loss of retinal ganglion cells, optic nerve head changes, and visual field defects. Vascular factors, alongside intraocular pressure, play a crucial role in POAG pathogenesis, and this study aims to explore the relationship between retinal vessel caliber and visual field defects in POAG patients. Purpose To evaluate the association between retinal vessel calibers in the peripapillary area with visual field defects in one or both hemifields.

Background Iron deficiency anemia (IDA) is the most prevalent form of nutritional anemia worldwide, affecting a substantial portion of the population. It has significant negative effects on health and the economy, especially in poorer nations, and is more prevalent than anemia alone. Although hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) is frequently used to track long-term glycemic management, several variables, including iron deficiency, might affect its values.

Background Tonsillectomy is associated with significant pain, and postoperative pain control is often unsatisfactory. There have been several methods adopted to treat postoperative pain, but none of the methods were effective, with patients continuing to undergo severe postoperative pain. Hence, our study aimed to compare the efficacy of pre-emptive nebulized ketamine versus pre-emptive nebulized lidocaine with a control group receiving nebulized saline for pain control in children undergoing tonsillectomy.

Background Pharmacovigilance is defined as the science and activities related to the detection, assessment, understanding, and prevention of adverse effects or other drug-related problems. Underreporting of adverse drug reactions (ADRs) is a global issue, and adequate knowledge among healthcare professionals is essential. Engaging young doctors and nursing professionals in pharmacovigilance is crucial for promoting ADR reporting.

Background Hypotension during spinal anesthesia occurs due to sympathetic nervous system blockade, resulting in decreased systemic vascular resistance and reduced cardiac output. Due to reduced sympathetic tone, peripheral arterial vasodilatation and blood pooling in lower limbs due to venodilatation occur, reducing preload to the heart and stroke volume. The elderly patients have reduced cardiovascular compensatory mechanisms, increasing the frequency and severity of hypotension due to sympathetic blockade after spinal anesthesia significantly.

Introduction Worldwide, breast cancer is still the most common cancer that affects women. Breast cancer prognosis is based on a number of clinical and pathological indicators. Further features are needed to predict early metastasis and prognosis of patients with breast carcinoma, as the current pathological characteristics, such as tumor differentiation, vascular infiltration, and TNM (tumor, node, and metastasis) staging, cannot fully describe the early metastatic biological behavior in breast carcinoma.

Introduction Neutrophils that are at rest exhibit very low expression of CD64, the high-affinity immunoglobulin fragment crystallizable γ receptor I, which is also found in monocytes. Neutrophils that have been exposed to endotoxins or are infected express more CD64. Objectives The aim of this study was to assess the CD64 biomarker expression on neutrophils using the flow cytometry method and its comparison with total leukocyte count, C-reactive protein (CRP) level, and blood culture sensitivity test in the diagnosis of sepsis in adults.

Background Babies born between 37 weeks +0 days and 38 weeks +6 days by scheduled caesarean delivery before the onset of labour are more prone to developing respiratory complications than babies delivered between 39 weeks +0 days and 40 weeks +0 days. Antenatal corticosteroids have been used in preterm births for lung maturity. The advantages of administering antenatal corticosteroids before a scheduled caesarean delivery in the early term remain a subject of debate.

Introduction Urethral catheterization is a routine procedure often required for many hospitalized patients. Various conditions, such as meatal stenosis, stricture urethra, false passage, benign prostatic hyperplasia, bladder neck contractures, and impacted urethral stones, can contribute to difficulty in catheterisation. In the setting of failed attempts at per urethral catheter placement, the subsequent intervention is suprapubic catheter (SPC) insertion.

Article Synopsis
  • STEMI, a serious heart condition, is a leading cause of death around the world, and certain heart tests can help predict bad outcomes like heart failure.
  • The study focused on patients with STEMI to see if a specific measurement called the Tpeak-Tend/QT interval could help predict major heart problems when looked at alongside NT-proBNP levels.
  • Researchers found that most patients were men and that certain age groups were more affected, as they monitored these patients for heart failure during their hospital stay.

Introduction Breast cancer is considered the most common cancer among women. According to the literature, cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) expression in breast carcinoma is associated with aggressive tumor biology and acts as an independent prognostic marker. As COX-2 is a newly identified marker, studies are required to understand its immunoexpression and correlation with hormone receptor status and other prognostic factors, which helps in the therapeutic management of patients.

Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are widely prescribed for various conditions but are associated with numerous adverse drug reactions (ADRs). Understanding these ADRs is necessary to reduce morbidity and mortality. NSAID-induced angioedema, although rare, can be life-threatening and is often due to increased leukotriene production from COX pathway inhibition.
