Background: Randomised controlled trials (RCTs) provide valuable information for developing harm profiles but current analysis practices to detect between-group differences are suboptimal. Drug trials routinely screen continuous clinical and biological data to monitor participant harm. These outcomes are regularly dichotomised into abnormal/normal values for analysis.

Background: Home postpartum care is a major part of midwifery care in Germany. The user perspective plays an increasingly important role in the evaluation of health services, but there is a lack of valid and theoretically based measuring instruments, especially in midwifery care. The aim of this study was to develop and validate an instrument for measuring quality of midwifery care in the postpartum period from the perspective of women.

The role of emergency services (ES) is to provide round-the-clock acute care. In recent years, inadequate use of ES has been internationally thematised because of overcrowding and the associated cost. Evidence shows that migrant populations tend to use more ES than non-migrant but it remains to show if there is a differential in inadequacy.

In this commentary to the paper "Ensuring HIV care to undocumented migrants in Israel: a public-private partnership case study" by Chemtob et al. we discuss the role of public-private partnerships (PPPs) as a mechanism for integrating previously excluded groups in public healthcare provision. Drawing on PPP case-studies as well as on Israel's pandemic preparedness policies during the Covid-19 outbreak, we examine potential implications for the populations in question and for health systems.

Objective: To determine the effectiveness of a soft-tissue bulking agent comparing novel approaches of Eustachian tube (ET) augmentation procedures: transpalatinatal Eustachian tube augmentation in local and general anesthesia versus an augmentation with velotraction under general anesthesia. The clinical endpoint was the resolution of symptoms related to unilateral patulous Eustachian tube dysfunction (PETD) requiring no additional revision augmentations.
Study Design: Combined retrospective clinical chart review.

Background: Moderate-to-severe obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is highly prevalent in heart failure patients with reduced left ventricular ejection fraction (HFrEF), and is associated with worsening cardiac function and increased mortality.
Objectives: The automatic positive airway pressure (APAP) trial tested the impact of APAP treatment on changes for the pre-specified endpoints: changes in peak oxygen uptake (peak VO), percent-predicted peak VO and oxygen uptake at anaerobic threshold (VO-AT).
Methods: This randomized, controlled pilot study included patients with chronic, stable HFrEF who had moderate-to-severe OSA.

Assessing hemodynamics, especially central venous pressure (CVP), is essential in heart failure (HF). Right heart catheterization (RHC) is the gold-standard, but non-invasive methods are also needed. However, the role of 2-dimensional echocardiography (2DE) remains uncertain, and 3-dimensional echocardiography (3DE) is not always available.

Background: European studies showed that women with a migration background are less likely to participate in mammography screenings than autochthonous women. However, the participation in the German mammography screening programme (MSP) among ethnic German migrants from countries of the former Soviet Union (called resettlers) is unclear so far. The aim of this study was to identify possible differences regarding MSP participation between resettlers from the FSU and the general German population.

Introduction: Every discipline has a dichotomous objective by which it recognizes whether its work has been successful (Vogd, 2011). For midwifery care, no objective has been set in this way so far. This also has implications for measuring quality, because quality of care is only measurable if objectives have been identified.

Introduction: Approximately 21% of Germany's inhabitants or their parents have been born abroad. There is evidence that immigrant women are starting antenatal care later than nonimmigrants. In Berlin, equality in health care access had improved until 2011-2012, leaving only women with Low German language proficiency and an insecure residence status particularly at risk.

Background: The Association of Schools of Public Health in the European Region (ASPHER) is confronted with challenges to improve education for public health professionals. In this article, we attempt to answer the question: Did ASPHER members improve their organization and programmes to enable their graduates to acquire the competences to tackle the diverse areas of public health defined in the Ten Essential Public Health Operations (EPHOs)?
Methods: ASPHER run two surveys among its membership: In 2011, 66 Schools and Departments of Public Health (SDPHs) took part (82.5%), while in 2015-16, 78 SDPHs (81.

Introduction: Approximately 21% of Germany's inhabitants have been born abroad or are of direct descent of immigrants. A positive birth experience has an effect on a woman's mental health and her future family planning choices. While international studies showed that immigrant women are less satisfied with their birth experience, no such study has been conducted in Germany until now.

Introduction: In many countries, including Germany, newly arriving refugees face specific entitlement restrictions and access barriers to healthcare. While entitlement restrictions apply to all refugees who seek protection in Germany during the first months, the barriers to access depend on the model that the states and the municipalities implement locally. Currently, two different models exist: the healthcare voucher model (HcV) and the electronic health card model (eHC).

Purpose: (1) To evaluate the association between immigration background and the occurrence of maternal near miss (MNM). (2) To identify medical co-factors, health-care utilization, and health-care disparities as explanations of a possibly higher risk of MNM among immigrants.
Methods: We compared perinatal outcomes between immigrant women (first- or second-generation) versus non-immigrant women, delivering at three maternity hospitals in Berlin, Germany, 2011-2012.

Previous research has shown that motor experience of an action can facilitate the visual recognition of that action, even in the absence of visual experience. We conducted an experiment in which participants were presented point-light displays of dance-like actions that had been recorded with the same group of participants during a previous session. The stimuli had been produced with the participant in such a way that each participant experienced a subset of phrases only as observer, learnt two phrases from observation, and created one phrase while blindfolded.

Migrants are often poorly represented in epidemiological studies which limits the generalizability of the results of population-based studies. This study aimed to assess whether a community-based sampling (CBS) of persons of Turkish origin leads to differences in the participants' characteristics compared to a register-based sampling (RBS). The two sampling strategies were used to recruit participants in three cities in Germany (CBS: n = 641; RBS: n = 578).
