Background: Childhood cancers are emerging as an essential concern in India where there is lack of a specific programme component or policy to address childhood cancer control. There is limited information on the status and quality of childhood cancer care services in India. This paper describes the childhood cancer care services available at secondary and tertiary-level hospitals in India through a cross sectional study design.

The present study was conducted to assess stress distribution around dental implants based on the all-on-four treatment concept. The finite element analysis (FEA) models comprised cancellous bone covered with cortical bone. Four dental implants were placed in two different designs.

Assessment of Antimicrobial Efficacy of Chitosan-Based Tetracycline Gel on Periodontal Pathogens: An Study.

Aim: The aim of the current research was to evaluate the antimicrobial effectiveness of chitosan-based tetracycline gel on periodontal pathogenic microorganisms.

Materials And Methods: Preparation of chitosan-based tetracycline gel of 0.7% and 1% was done.

Impact of COVID-19 on heart failure hospitalization and outcome in India - A cardiological society of India study (CSI-HF in COVID 19 times study - "The COVID C-HF study").

Objectives: The presentation and outcomes of acute decompensated heart failure (ADHF) during COVID times (June 2020 to Dec 2020) were compared with the historical control during the same period in 2019.

Methods: Data of 4806 consecutive patients of acute HF admitted in 22 centres in the country were collected during this period. The admission patterns, aetiology, outcomes, prescription of guideline-directed medical therapy (GDMT) and interventions were analysed in this retrospective study.

A Multicenter Retrospective Cohort Study on Management Protocols and Clinical Outcomes After ABO-incompatible Kidney Transplantation in India.

Background: There is no robust evidence-based data for ABO-incompatible kidney transplantation (ABOiKT) from emerging countries.

Methods: Data from 1759 living donor ABOiKT and 33 157 ABO-compatible kidney transplantations (ABOcKT) performed in India between March 5, 2011, and July 2, 2022, were included in this retrospective, multicenter (n = 25) study. The primary outcomes included management protocols, mortality, graft loss, and biopsy-proven acute rejection (BPAR).

Hemangioma - A Rare Cause of Laryngeal Growth in an Adult and its Management with Sclerotherapy and Laser Surgery: A Case Report.

Hemangiomas are benign tumors of vascular origin commonly affecting head and neck region. Laryngeal Hemangiomas are however rare and have no well-defined management protocols. We present an interesting case of a 42-year-old adult who was diagnosed as a case of Laryngeal Hemangioma based on clinical and radiological findings and was managed with local injection of sclerosing agent followed by CO Laser fulguration.

Consensus guidelines for the management of HR-positive HER2/neu negative early breast cancer in India, SAARC region and other LMIC by DELPHI survey method.

Background: Precise prognostication is the key to optimum and effective treatment planning for early-stage hormone receptor (HR) positive, HER2/neu negative breast cancer patients. Differences in the breast cancer incidence and tumor anatomical features at diagnosis, pharmacogenomics data between Western and Indian women along with the vast diversity in the economic status and differences in insurance policies of these regions; suggest recommendations put forward for Western women might not be applicable to Indian/Asian women. Opinions from oncologists through a voting survey on various prognostic factors/tools to be considered for planning adjuvant therapy are consolidated in this report for the benefit of oncologists of the sub-continent, SAARC and Asia's LMIC (low and middle-income countries).

Co-occurrence of acrocentric chromosome associations with dicentric chromosomes in irradiated human lymphocytes.

Purpose: The occurrence of acrocentric chromosome association (ACA) after radiation exposure is an interesting cytogenetic endpoint, known to show a dose-dependent increase in irradiated lymphocytes suggesting its potential use in radiation biodosimetry. Here, an attempt was made to study the complexity and correlation of the occurrence of ACA with dicentric chromosomes (DC) in lymphocytes exposed to gamma radiation.

Methods: Ninety metaphases each with DC and without DC were chosen randomly from lymphocytes irradiated with different doses (0, 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 Gy) of gamma radiation.

Time Trend and Prevalence Analysis of Transfusion Transmitted Infections among Blood Donors: A Retrospective Study from 2001 to 2016.

Context: Transfusion-transmitted infections (TTIs) remain a major threat to the patients receiving blood. The incidence of the transmission of various infectious agents has reduced ever since the introduction of various molecular techniques for detection.

Aims: The study tried to figure out accurate estimates of risk and trend of TTI over a period of sixteen years, essential for monitoring the safety of blood supply and evaluating the efficacy of the currently employed screening procedures.

The Distribution of Lifestyle Risk Factors Among Patients with Stroke in the Indian Setting: Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

Background: The burden of stroke is increasing in India, but there is limited understanding of the distribution of reported risk factors in the Indian setting. It is vital to generate robust data on these modifiable risk factors to scale up appropriate strategies for the prevention of cerebrovascular diseases in this setting.

Summary: The objective of this study is to estimate the overall proportion of life style risk factors of patients with stroke in the Indian setting.

Assessment of the Dentinal Surface Adaptation Efficacy of Different Obturation Systems with Bioceramic Sealer: A Scanning Electron Microscope Study.

Aim: Aim of this study was to evaluate the dentinal surface adaptation effectiveness of different obturation methods with bioceramic sealer.

Materials And Methods: Sixty recently removed human permanent premolars of the mandible having a solitary, straight as well as completely produced root were chosen on the basis of clinical/radiographic evaluation. The coronal parts of the premolars were subjected to sectioning at the cementoenamel junction (CEJ) with the aid of a water-cooled diamond disk.

COVID-19 infected ST-Elevation myocardial infarction in India (COSTA INDIA).

Objective: To find out differences in the presentation, management and outcomes of COVID-19 infected STEMI patients compared to age and sex-matched non-infected STEMI patients treated during the same period.

Methods: This was a retrospective multicentre observational registry in which we collected data of COVID-19 positive STEMI patients from selected tertiary care hospitals across India. For every COVID-19 positive STEMI patient, two age and sex-matched COVID-19 negative STEMI patients were enrolled as control.

Supernumerary Nostril: A Rare Anomaly.

Supernumerary nostril or accessory nostril is a very rare congenital abnormality of nose. Less than 50 cases of same have been reported in English literature so far. In this study, the author present case of a 7-year-old female who had isolated supernumerary right nostril.

Heteroresistance to rifampicin & isoniazid in clinical samples of patients with presumptive drug-resistant tuberculosis in Central India.

Background & Objectives: A combination of resistant and susceptible Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) isolated from clinical specimens is referred to as heteroresistance. Heteroresistance leads to difficulties in drug resistance testing and may adversely affect treatment outcomes. The present study estimated the proportion of heteroresistance among MTB in clinical samples of presumptive drug-resistant tuberculosis (TB) patients in Central India.

Microcystic Meningioma - A Diagnostic Dilemma During Intraoperative Squash Smear Study.

Background: Meningiomas are generally slow-growing, benign, and non-infiltrating in nature. They are usually easy to diagnose cytologically if they are of the meningothelial type; however, they may cause diagnostic challenges when they manifest as unusual morphological variants, like the microcystic type. Because of the rarity of microcystic meningioma (MM), information on its cytological features is rarely available in the literature.

In-vivo studies on Transitmycin, a potent Mycobacterium tuberculosis inhibitor.

This study involves the in-vitro and in-vivo anti-TB potency and in-vivo safety of Transitmycin (TR) (PubChem CID:90659753)- identified to be a novel secondary metabolite derived from Streptomyces sp (R2). TR was tested in-vitro against drug resistant TB clinical isolates (n = 49). 94% of DR-TB strains (n = 49) were inhibited by TR at 10μg ml-1.

Surgical Protocols before and after COVID-19-A Narrative Review.

The COVID-19 epidemic has affected not only people's daily lives but also the working methods of clinicians, surgical procedures, open/minimally invasive procedures, operating room management, patient and healthcare worker safety, education and training. The main objective of this study was to review selected articles and determine the changes in the general surgery protocols/procedures before and after the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic. The literature was carried out in PubMed-Medline, Cochrane Library, Embase, Scopus and Google Scholar.

Xanthogranulomatous epididymo-orchitis: A single-institutional case series and systematic review.

Introduction: Xanthogranulomatous inflammation is a rare nonneoplastic and chronic inflammatory process, characterized by proliferation of foamy macrophages resulting in damage and necrosis of the affected tissue. Involvement of the testis/epididymis by the disease is a rare event.

Methods: A case series of four male patients diagnosed with xanthogranulomatous epididymitis/orchitis (XGEO) at our institute was reviewed.

Assessment of the Role of Gefitinib With Concurrent Chemoradiation in Locally Advanced Head and Neck Cancer.

Background: The treatment of locally advanced head and neck carcinoma has been a combination of chemotherapy and radiation. The higher incidences of recurrence and metastasis warrant the search for an alternative therapy for better patient outcomes. This study was designed to evaluate the effect of gefitinib in conjunction with concurrent chemoradiation in locally advanced stages III and IV head and neck cancer.

Histopathologic spectrum and clinical correlation of lesions of jaw - a series of 60 cases.

Odontogenic tumors have the potential for the development of malformations of the teeth as well as the surrounding tissue. Sound knowledge of various types of jaw lesions and their characteristics will help the clinician with timely measures and management. Our main aim was to study the histopathological nature of various jaw lesions retrieved from biopsies and resected specimens.

Body-mass index COVID-19 severity: A systematic review of systematic reviews.

Objectives: Conflicting studies have resulted in several systematic reviews and meta-analyses on the relationship between COVID-19 and body mass index (BMI).

Methods: This systematic review of systematic reviews followed an umbrella review design, and preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses (PRISMA) guidelines; Medical literature analysis and retrieval system online (MEDLINE) and SCOPUS databases were searched for systematic reviews on the topic. A predefined screening and selection procedure was done for the retrieved results based on the population, intervention/interest, comparator, outcome, study (PICOS) framework.

Comparison of the Antimicrobial Activity of Mouthwash with Chlorhexidine Mouthwash in Fixed Orthodontic Patients.

Aim: Aim of the present research was to compare the antimicrobial activity of mouthwash with chlorhexidine mouthwash in fixed orthodontic patients.

Materials And Methods: A sample of 90 fixed Orthodontic patients participated in this study. Full-mouth oral prophylaxis was performed for every patient at the start of the study.

Prevalence of Physical and Psychological Impacts of Wearing Personal Protective Equipment on Health Care Workers During COVID-19: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has necessitated the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) among the frontline health care workers (HCWs). Even though PPE helps in preventing infection, it poses significant physical and psychological impacts at varying levels. Correspondingly, multiple independent studies have brought out the PPE-associated problems.

Cerebral sparganosis masquerading brain neoplasm: A rare incidental case.

Sparganosis is a parasitic infection caused by plerocercoid larvae of the genera Spirometra. Cerebral sparganosis is one of its most serious complications wherein clinical and imaging findings may pose diagnostic challenge. Here we present a case of cerebral sparganosis which mimicked as brain tumour on clinicoradiological examination.
